Which character can you relate with the most in The Cheat? Why do you think so? Justify your response with specific details and evidence.

Rebound - Dinner Table

David is living his life by believing he will walk soon.  He does the research and understands the science.  A cure could be discovered at any moment.  Sean and most have you also believe he will walk again soon.

David's mother has passionately argued at the dinner table that David can not live his life on a hope and prayer that he will walk again.  He must move on and accept who he is now as he may be this way until he dies.  

answer the following questions:

1. Is David's mother right to think this way and to want David to think the same way?

2. Should David stop researching and living his life expecting to walk again soon and learn how to live life in a wheelchair - accept who he is?

3. What should Sean do? encourage David and support his belief he will walk soon OR take the same position his mother has taken and help David accept his new reality.  

Then respond with 2 other people to spark some dialogue.  Find people that have taken opposing views to comment with.

- Search / Write / Edit 3 poems (1 is related to Rebound    and the our novel study, 1 is related to the formation of Canada - NEW, the third is yours…)

• Write a paragraph about the motivation and meaning of your poem (Authors statement of intent)
• Create 3 stunning and artistic displays for your poems ( Photography, OVER, Hand drawn, Clever boarders, all displayable for a poetry display in Library)  
• IDEAS…orally record with soundscapes, A photo and text to present poem…
• Be prepared to orally present 1 poem and be able to answer questions

Sean is gaining a greater insight into the depth of David's pain and the complexity of his character.  He thought he was careless and now is certain he is reckless. 

 "Things just don't happen to him,but rather he went out of his way to look for something, and if something wasn't there he'd build it himself" 

1. Is David on a dangerous path of risk taking? Should he be so cavalier with his attitude towards people and his own safety?

2. Does David have the right to be angry at the world and to lash out at anybody and everybody?

3.  We began this book certain David would walk again.  Are you as certain now as you were in September? Why or why not provide examples from the book that support your developing predictions.

Photography and Images can often have a far greater impact on the viewer then a cleverly worded essay.  Study and observe these images.  Look deep into the photo/image get beyond the obvious and look for specific subtle yet revealing detail.

1. Pick which image delivers the greatest impact and explain why with specific pieces of evidence.

2.  Highlight a very specific detail about any of the three images that you found very telling and powerful.

3. Explain what is the moral of the image you have not yet discussed in the previous questions.

What are the main benefits of the internet to society?  and what is one of its negative benefits? Support your answer with two specific examples for the positives and one for the negative. 

Display a tally chart at the end and write out the high end vocabulary

Post your Answer ( Recall the key elements: paragraphs, punctuation, vocabulary, mini research)

Then engage in dialogue with 2 other students about the negative impact of the internet 

As well post a link to a cite/video/facts that you used in the your response and highlight what information you found and used.

Incorporate the things we have been using in our writing prompts all year! Effective plan, rich vocabulary, variety of punctuation, maximize devices, dialogue, poetry...
