ReplyDeletethe sun and the moon by Candace. N
ReplyDelete, i found this poem to be in my top 3 because this poem shows that something large, burning and hot, can be with somthing small, cool, and gentle, AKA somone/something oposite. in the poem she writes about how the moon is gentle and beautful, (also refered as "she") and how the moon helps us by being a light source at night. on the other side she talks about the sun who brightens the dull days and the reason for our exitence the one who gives heat light and energy, similar to a father, which also might be the reason she called the sun her father, and she called the moon her mother, probably because the moon takes many of the hits from meteors, and mothers are really protective no matter which species. also mothers show us the path which is best for us, just like in the dark the moon shows us the path.
I personally like the poem "I am scared" a lot because this poem had very good vocabulary as well and the high end words were not just placed at random, it seems like the writer placed the vocab in a sentence which the word would blend in with. It had a lot of emotions involved and made you sort of feel as if you were in such a situation; when the poem states " I don't like to be the person who stands up and starts questioning things"...personally I can relate to this because I am not one who asks too many questions as I just don't feel is right to do . The poem also expresses the writer's thoughts and feelings very well, especially when they say " I am mad, filled with anger like a pot filling with steam that can't escape, at any second is going to burst" I think this was a very creative and incredible way to express feelings, particularly anger..Many mundane writers would probably just make a sentence to express their emotions...although emotions play a huge roll in your poems and time must be taken to express them and I think this poem does a very good expressing their poems efficiently and in a creative way.
DeleteI like how this writer uses objects that have nothing to do with his poem to better describe/express their feelings and emotions. Some of the main objects include: a pot, a waterfall, the javascript program and rusty door hinges. These objects represented the emotions in a very creative way. This poem reminds me of numerous occasions from tests to assignments to competitions and even projects. I mean many of us do feel a bit of stress when we are doing such things, he expresses this feeling of tension in a way that just by reading the first few paragraphs you can relate and get connections, as the poem goes on more emotions and feelings are expressed and you suddenly begin to see all this happen before your eyes
Another amazing poem would probably be the "A Letter from a Captain of early 20th Century Industry to Nature" Mainly because the style of this poem is quite different from any other poem I have ever seen I mean they had some contents of a letter and contents of a poem together which really made the poem outstanding and creative. For example at the beginning of the poem the writer has an intro “ To whom it may Concern” and at the end the writer states”Sincerely, A. Captain of 20th Century Industry. The poem has dates included in the intro to make the poem sound more of a letter as well which i think was an amazing idea! When I read this poem it actually makes you feel as if the poem was written in the 20th century, mainly because the style of writing was a bit different back then and the vocabulary made it seem very realistic; one of the best parts of the poem that represent what I’m talking about is when they say “On this day in March, I am notifying you that you have a little less than two months to vacate the premises. Should you fail to relocate before this time, we will use all legal and physical means necessary to remove you from this land” This to me sounds like something a captain of the 20th century would say as captains then were like the leader of the crew and they had to seem superior….and this poem does a great job with that. If you look at “captains” these days all they do is drive their boat around and carry passengers, so this poem wouldn't sound right if we were to use the same poem to represent a letter from a captain in the 21st century. This poem has amazing vocabulary which helps enhance the poem and are not just misused. This poem had very high end words such as:Atrocious, Sleek, Leen, Relish, Depraved, Relegated. This writer also does a good job using their adjectives to better describe even the minor objects which I personally really liked! For example:Villainous Vines, Troublesome Trees, Wicked Weeds, Infuriating Insects, Atrocious Animals, Depraved Decomposers.
Another poem I really admired was a very meaningful poem called “And as Always” What made this poem stand out was that it had a text to text connection. This writer had related to the book “Noah's Ark”. This author really brings describes his emotions very well especially when he uses other objects as an adjective to better describe his emotions. For Example: “It destroys me like a meteor hitting a dinosaur”.This part of the poem was actually a very good way to describe his stress at that time. I mean he could have been mundane and dull and just say “ I had so much stress” although instead he used other objects to describe emotions in a more creative way. This poem really reminds me of events that have happened to me in the past. I mean when I was a child in kindergarten I really had a hard time reading and I didn't really have a passion of reading either so i didn't show any initiative to learn how to read. Everyday my mom used to sit down with me and try to teach me how to read although after so many tries I didn't get it and both me and my mom would get upset and I decided to just give up.Then just like in his poem I would have to read aloud in class...and I would get really nervous and turn mute. Then in Grade 1 one of my teachers had motivated me and not just taught me to read...soon I would go home and begin to “try to read” as soon as I got home without anyone to help me out. This poem really reminds me of my childhood and I really love this poem for that particular reason.

- “Dear Teachers” by Dan C.
ReplyDeleteI liked this poem because I agree with and like the message that the poem is sending. I agree that everyone around you teaches you things. Whether they teach something good, bad or something that is useless, they all teach you something. Another reason that I like this poem is because of the line: “I love some of you But some of you guys well I don’t”. I really like this line because I don’t really all the teachers, specifically the teacher I had in grade 6. I really didn't like her and well neither did anyone but I guess even she taught me some memorable things. Overall I really liked this poem and to me, it stood over the rest.
Personally, I enjoyed all the poems, but the one that spoke to me the most, was “To the Me” By You-Jin K. The reason I enjoyed this poem, was because the author was talking about his/her experiences, and personal life. Even though the poem was so personal, I could really relate. He/she talks to their old self, in hopes of telling them that all their old self-doubts, and fears, didn’t matter. The author’s use of past and present tense, metaphors, and vocabulary was also great. Examples of powerful vocab, was when the author had used “camouflage” as a metaphor for trying to fit in. I think a lot of students our ages can relate to this. The best senses that would probably describe how I felt while reading this poem, would be my vision, and hearing, because I can hear the things I sometimes wish I hadn’t said, while reading your poem, o the things I wish others hadn’t said to me, and in my mind, I can visualize the things that I wish hadn’t happened. I really enjoy this poem, because I made me feel, like I’m not the only one who would jump in a time-machine, if given the chance. Now, I’m usually the one telling people not to care what other’s think of, and to just be themselves, and that’s kind of hypocritical of me to say, considering I rarely used to do that. It had really made me think about my own past, and how I would now, probably take my own advice. As a person, there’s a lot I would tell the old Furqan, if I had the chance.
ReplyDelete“Cassandra and Kellythorn” By Elyse G, is another poem that made me think. In this poem the author talks about how, everything seems great, but when you look closely, and from a different perspective, only then will you be able to see that not everything is picture perfect. The poem starts out very happy, and how the author describes it, makes it sound like winter, which causes me to think of the whooshing noises of snow, and the cold air, so this poem really connects with my visual and hearing senses. I enjoy the author’s vocabulary in the beginning is also great. The poem seems happy, and joyful, but seems to be going down a downwards spiral. I really enjoyed how the author had used similes to explain the sounds in her poem, and they really brought it to life. The line “the silence is as sharp as a shattered glass ornament” not only explains how great the silence is, but now the holiday theme the author touched on in the beginning, is now gone.
“Sun and moon” By Candace N, is a great example of a good poem, and one I had really enjoyed reading. It flows really nicely, and uses similes and metaphors, to get the author’s point across. I really enjoyed reading it, because, it used analogy, to explain, for example “the moon, with her ebony hair, so black and long we called it, the midnight sky”. This causes me to imagine a dark night sky, and the moon in front, as if the night sky was actually her hair. The way the author had used nature’s available characteristics, like how the sun’s core was burning, and how it could turn rain into rainbows, was very creative. Her vocabulary, and use of antonyms (the sun is burning, while the moon is cool and gentle) is great and pronounced. The way the author looks at things and her perspective is very enticing.
DEAR TEACHERS:
ReplyDeleteI admired this poem because it was very entertaining and interesting, its title was what had brought my attention since I personally do have many experiences and opinions about certain different teachers. In the poem, I realized that this wasn’t only based on school-kinds of teachers but anyone who’s just there to guide us through the equitable path. “You have opened my eyes to the light i never knew shone before” was one of my most favorite line, it is so in depth and so very accurate! I really do love this poem because it shows me a comprehensively distinctive opinion of teachers. Before, any time the word teachers would come to my mind, I would instinctively think ‘school’ but as reading this poem, I now recognize that teachers are completely important to our lives and they could even be living in our same houses A.K.A our parents, siblings, family and so much more! This poem has really opened my eyes not only for how intriguing it was but how much it connects to us and how much of a different point of view it shows; its more of a mature perspective.
A POEM ABOUT OCD
KATHERINE N:
I really like this poem because its so legitimate its funny. For example, sometimes if i see something that isn’t neat, its not like i feel those exact things, but I rather organize it so it looks better. I don’t know if its just me but it happens, the only difference is if I don’t do it, I don’t get tense where “every bone, every muscle I can feel them tightening” and how a voice in my head repeatedly says "FIX IT FIX IT” if i don’t get to do it, I say oh well. I honestly hope its not that bad for people with OCD because that must be irritating and annoying every time something is un-neat. i really do like how Katherine is so detailed and specific about how it all feels. But this poem was great! I’ve now learned how it feels to have OCD.
TO THE "STAR OF GODS”
PRAVEN V:
This poem reminded me of somewhere where I heard people saying how the sun will turn land to hell itself and we will be burned. This poem gave me goose bumps just imagining all of what it said especially the hell part. Even if I heard it before, thinking about us being burnt to death is completely scary because of all the pain we will suffer leaving this world. Or even imagining where we live now will be like hell because of the sun one day. But I really liked this poem because of its different facts, the questions that kept me thinking, and the ending. Interesting poem!

ReplyDeleteA poem about OCD
ReplyDeleteTo me this poem has a voice, you're in the mind of someone who has this disorder; which makes this poem extremely powerful. You can hear the voices, collective thoughts and what exactly this may be going through. The words such as " Fix it!", really puts you into the shoes of someone with OCD. This person sees things they do not want to see, thinks of things they don't want to think and hear things they don't want to hear. This poem really puts on the spot... You actually imagine what this person is going through, the choice of words in this poem actually makes you realize the amount of anxiety and stress these patients go through. The poem impacts the reader, from the unpleasant screams ("FIX IT. FIX IT.") to the arousing things that this person is going through ( thoughts slipping away, every bone and muscle slipping away.) The choice of words and the structure of the poem really creates emotion and feeling. You experience something you may not want to experience. Someone somewhere has to experience OCD all the time. It's an unconventional truth driven with poetry to create an impact. An amazing poem that makes the reader open it's eyes.

AND AS ALWAYS
DeleteThis poem heavily shows your passion for reading; and the struggles you went through to reach that A- for awesome. The elements of your poem fascinates me especially your distinct connections such as 'Noah in the flood with no arc'. There is tons of power and emotion that went into your poem. It told a story and what you went through to eventually devour books. The progression of how you started of weak but turned out to be a shark that devours books was mesmerizing.Your poem really impacted me as there was a lot going on, even if it was a simple concept such as reading. Really great to see how in the end of your poem, you met an angelic educator who picked up and motivated you. Even your parents had a role in the process of you learning to read, they were distinct and easily stood out.It was great to see that you had all that perseverance inside you, which really taught me something. Overall, amazing poem!Glad that I was able to read it!

Haiku poem
DeleteThis haiku poem was has a lot meaning and is really plentiful in thoughts even if it's just a haiku.
Endless amounts of meaning for a 3 line poem. It was actually surprising to see how much thought went into a haiku. There was also an interesting "plot twist" in your poem at the very end, this caused your poem to set a different mood for the reader which was very sudden but also fit well in the poem. Your poem also had interesting concepts behind it such as the leaves blowing and the beauty of outside. You then took an extremely simple idea such as a window and used it to carry so much meaning. The 'Blocked by the window' line in your haiku, made me realize how not everything can be experienced in it's true form which is great!! Such a simple and thought provoking poem, written only in 17 syllables!

Delete-We’re All Suicidal Idiots On A Cosmic Scale By Preenon C
ReplyDeleteI really liked this poem; it was really intriguing because of the vagueness. The first time I read it, I had no idea what it meant, so I reread it and tried to make sense of it but I just couldn’t think of anything to make sense of it, I copy and pasted the words into google. The things that came up were things about aliens existing. Then I realized that poem was talking about aliens existing. I started to wonder how the poem ties to its title. What does us being the being suicidal idiots have to do with aliens existing? Does it mean something like even aliens are suicidal? Then I looked at the cosmic part of the title. That was the only part that can be connected to aliens, so maybe the title really is suggesting the aliens are suicidal? I still haven’t figured it out. The point of this is that this poem is making curious and start thinking. I liked this poem because this poem has stirred my brain up the most.
A poem about OCD: This poem shows the true feelings and the experience of someone that’s experience with OCD. The author really had an idea of OCD and was really explicit with her words. I admired the way that the author choose to end off by saying that everything was fixed but had a feeling that something was wrong and the context of the poem that understood was that there’s always a bad in the good. Once again the poem was thoroughly thought out and the phrase, “I have to, I must Or I’ll die mentally and then physically All I can see are those mistakes What do I do? What do I do? FIX IT. FIX IT”. The part I’ll die mentally then physically shows what’s going in the mind of some with OCD.
ReplyDeleteThese poems certainly have a lot of meaning to them and definitely get you thinking and feeling the creativity processed into writing these. All of them are poetically pleasing, but the ones I found best were "I am scared" by Aleksandrs B, "To the Me" by You- Jin K and "Sun and Moon" by Candace N. I'll start by my review on "I am scared" by Aleksandrs B, it is a very relatable and understandable poem. It's an inner fear that many have; some fear their entire lives and some overcome it. However, everyone has the time where everything seems scary, and the inner fear creeps in. My favourite line would be "what time is wasted, success in never tasted". It definitely stirred my senses and was meaningful. The second poem that I found very interesting was “To the Me” by You-Jin K. I find this poem very understanding and meaningful because of the times you can relate to the past and be able to tell if things now in the future have turned better or worse. It definitely reminded me of some past memories which I have learned a lot from now. It has aroused all my senses and has made me feel the poem rather than just reading it meaninglessly. My favourite part of the poem would be “to the me who was blinded, I’m sorry that someone tied a silk fabric over your eyes, and that because the cloth was so soft you fell for its lies, it blocked the sunlight, and the people trying to help you, but don’t fear, you’ll learn to untie that fabric”. Lastly, the poem “Sun and Moon” by Candace N, it is very relatable as referred, the mother is the calm, cool, gentle and protects in this case the moon, and the father is the large hearted one who can fix your day with laughter and usually look strict, but will always forgive you and never forget you as the sun. The characteristics in the sun and moon relate very much to our parents and that little love story they have is very interesting. I really liked the part when “the sun met the moon, he decided he would be hers, that his golden rays and her silver light, would be the most valuable of treasures in any jewelry box”. This poem would definitely my favourite of all my three just because of how beautifully the emotion has been put into writing this and because of how they’ve made it into a story yet relate it to poetry. It’s a really interesting love story of nature that many of us don’t really look at the sun and moon that way. Overall, there were other really good poems as well, however these three stood out the most to me and I found them very good.
ReplyDeleteDear Rainbow
ReplyDeleteBy: Iris X.
All of these poems are really nice but this poem is one of my favourites because it shows the true beauty of a rainbow. I really liked how Mother Nature was used as a part of this poem because really when you think of it, Mother Nature is comforted after she cries so a rainbow is formed. We always get amazed when a rainbow is in the sky and think of the pot of gold sitting at the end so I like how you used the leprechauns! I love rainbows because they are beautiful which is another reason why I really like this poem is! –Manpreet K. Gill
Sun and Moon
By: Candace N.
This poem is really beautiful. The way that you made a story about the moon being in love with the sun was so good! I also really liked the part when you wrote “…his golden rays and her silver light would be the most valuable of treasures in any jewelry box.” I don’t know how the sun and moon look like in space but maybe when there lights hit each other, they do look like treasure in a jewelry box. I also like how you described the sun and the moon and how they do their job at day and night. This was a really nice poem, and I really liked it!
A poem about OCD
By: Katherine N.
I really like how you made this poem funny and the way you described someone with OCD literally dying to fix a mistake .I don’t really know how it feels to have OCD but it seems to be someone who just wants everything tidy and perfect which is a good thing. When you added “FIX IT! FIX IT!” in the poem, it showed how much you couldn’t stand it, while I would most likely just leave it as it is. Now that I have read this poem I know how OCD feels: everything has to be perfect or else I’ll die! This was overall a really great poem!
Weather Dance
ReplyDeleteBy Laura Z.
Of course, another absolutely astonishing poem! This poem definitely reminds me of the weather we have. This is definitely a rainy day. The rain, in my opinion makes everything look beautiful, brightly coloured, makes you feel happy. I like how this poem seems to go in the opposite direction of what people always write about this type of weather. I love how she didn't talk about enjoying the rain as it is always done in poems such as this one. She was just talking about walking through the battering and the pouring of the water. You can also picture yourself in this situation as I am sure we've all been through this at least once. Amazing. I get the perfect image in my head of what's going on. I'd love for this to be continued, made into a story of some sort. I do think I'd enjoy it very much.
Cassandra and Kellythorn
ReplyDeleteBy Elyse G.
I liked this poem because it really explains how life is at the place that the person who wrote this poem lives in or the place that this person is talking about because they explain how they must be like there and how the houses look like and this poem is very detailed and explains a lot about that place and how it snows there and you got to get you car warmed up before driving it around the city or place that the person that wrote this poem lives in.
A poem about OCD

The reason why I chose this poem because this poem has a lot in it, it is a very powerful poem because it talks about OCD and how it would feel if you had it , it really lets you feel the feeling that how you would feel if you had it and it is horrible it is a very in fortunate disorder .

Deletesun and moon
ReplyDeleteBy Candace N.
I really enjoyed this poem, I think that in many ways this poem was very well written. It started out soft but then it progressed into a much more meaningful poem , it had many "stand out" lines such as "something also known as a natural phenomenon something also known as love.", "with her crescent shaped smile that could illuminate the darkest of nights.", "hair so black and long we called it the midnight sky.", Overall I think this poem was amazing.

ReplyDeleteTo the “Star of Gods” By Praven V. : This pome was very thoughtful and tenebrous. Everyone knows what would happen is we have no sun, where am from we don’t have four seasons we only have two seasons sun shine and rain fall. A month without sun shine everyone would say the world is coming to a end . It’s funny cause when we pray we ask god for things most of the time but we don’t thank him for what he has given us also the moon is important too,WHY? Think of a night without the moon it’s gonna be pitch black. The moon illumine the sky at nights and we can see the stars. This poem my eyes, Praven V. perspicacious he put the basic fact in his poem that will inspire others.

ReplyDeleteI am scared by aleksandars B. I liked this this poem because it reminds me of myself and how I feel like, 2 lines especially " I am mostly sacred. Scared of getting things wrong" I fear that sometimes thinking if I do something wrong everything and everyone I have will be gone. We are scared because if we admit to something or share something not everyone going to support you and be positive about it. This poem has a lot more to it and it shows the fears that we go through and not everyone can share it.

I enjoyed this poem very much, I liked it because the reader could visualize the setting you are describing in your poem. It was very creative and very well written, I especially like the way you ended your poem it was very nice and "gentle".
To the Me by you-jin K.
ReplyDeleteI liked this poem because this poem it had a meaningful concept to it. It goes into the past to how you used to be before and now comparing that you are more confident and happier in yourself. This poem tells me that we all had or has horrible things going in our life at some point that makes us look down on ourselves, that you don’t even know who you are; you just did things for the sake of it not because you wanted too, you had to try to act confident. Some point we have all experienced this but as time goes it changes that and then you won’t have to pretend to be confident.
Sun and moon by Candace N.
I like this poem because it stands out to me the most and its very unique way, this is based on its two characters sun and moon and the normal day things that sun and moon does but she placed the words so beautifully to make It more realistic, how she called the moon her mother because it always calm and protective and sun her father who can always brighten up your dullest days. She has presented the love of nature with her meaningful words .
To The Me: Personally I like this poem because the author is sharing his or her life experience in which she\he grows and develops a better understanding of themselves and tries to explain to the old self that you were a totally in control of someone else, who had a silk fabric over their eyes and they don’t see and had to depend on the people. I can relate to this poem because I was a totally different person who didn’t know herself and was really depend on her friends and the people around her but I’ve learned how to untie the silk fabric, I’ve learned to have confidence and I think so did the author. Once again it’s a personal favorite because it has an in-depth meaning and caught my eye instantly.

OCD – by: Katherine N.
ReplyDeleteFirstly, the title had caught my attention “OCD”, I’ve never read a poem before on OCD, and recently I’ve been hearing this term much often. The reason I fancied this poem was because, it kept my interests up throughout the entire time. It was short and to the point, which didn’t bore me, and it made me feel like I was actually inside of somebody’s brain that has OCD. I really admired the part, where I though the writer was going to end the poem, but then comes another short stanza. I think that was a deep addition to the poem because, someone who has OCD, always wants everything to be PERFECT, and can’t stand a simple mistake. “All is well all is- No, no, no there’s definitely something wrong with that...” So when I was reading the poem, I felt it. I can’t imagine how it would be like to survive with OCD. I’d always have a big burden on my head and be stressing over the simplest things. “Fix it, fix it, I have to, I must, or I’ll due mentally and then physically” I really admired this poem because it gave a some taste of how hard life would be to have OCD.
We’re All Suicidal Idiots On A Cosmic Scale – Preenon C.
This poem sort of made me feel uncertain about what it had meant…”what does this even mean?” is what was going through my head. The title had seemed compelling, so I had begun reading. After reading it many times, I had realized what the poem was trying to say; We’re all suicidal idiots trying to find life out there in space (rational life), because the most accurate signal we are receiving is…nothing. I like how there is so little but it means to much. This poem was different from all the ones we all usually read… it’s not a poem focused on only the rhyming words, but more so the deep meaning. I don’t often see 3 lined poems, but when I do read short ones, they’re usually not implicit like this one, which is why it kept me thinking…
Sun and Moon – Candace N.
This poem reminded me the olden days and love stories; how love actually had a different meaning from before to now. I admire the way the author sees things in a different way. The main idea of the poem was two people finding themselves, having a family, and loving each other till the end, but I enjoyed the metaphors Candace used to explain her thoughts. “the moon, with her crescent shaped smile that could illuminate the darkest of nights.”. The moon doesn’t legitimately smile but the way the authors is explaining it makes it seem so. Not only did the title bring my attention, but the poem itself kept me interested throughout. It was very well descripted.
