Rebound - The Ravine

Rebound - The Ravine

It’s a powerful scene in the book as David and Sean stare out over the dangerous ravine and David shares the intimate details of his injury and rehab.  Again we see that David is convinced that he will walk again and violently throw his wheelchair from this spot and watch it explode into a million pieces.

1.        Will David’s predictions turn into reality? Yes or No? support your position with facts from the book.
2.        Did Sean’s day in the wheel chair work?  What do you think Sean has learned? And how will this change his actions?

Answer these 2 questions and then dialogue and chat with 2 other students debating the likelihood of David getting to destroy his chair and how much Sean will change.

  2. I would say that David will be able to walk again. I'm no fortune teller but by looking at his confidence and faith, it looks as if his dream will come true, and all these days of wheelchair would turn into a terrible nightmare. We can use today's example, when he was taking to Sean about him throwing his wheelchair away as soon as he gets ok. He had said that with a lot of confidence and, the fact where he has also decided what he will do in his future states that he is extremely sure that he will be cured.

  3. 1. David's prediction was that he will walk again. And I do feel like he will achieve his goal. I wouldn't necessarily say he is clever, I would say he is more "grittier" to the subject. It's not like it is David's first time mentioning this to Sean. He does seem very motivated towards the subject of him being able to walk again. He may be generally known since he was in the new papers. And that may give him a tiny bit of publicity, and that might help him achieve his goal. He #BELIEVES he can, I mean he aced his science project. I do not think he will achieve it any time soon, but he defiantly will. He is the kind of guy who actually will do everything he can to achieve this goal. According to Sean he was nearly going to cry, obviously it's a sentimental subject to him. I #BELIEVE he will see the day where he see that chair get brutally broken.

    1. But I say he won't walk because if his legs were a little damaged he would be walking by now but his legs seem to have permanent damage so I think he won't walk again.

    2. Subhan he will walk, he didn't get hurt on his legs his spine, the bottom bit got injured. If you remember what the part where he was explaining to Sean how he got in the wheel chair he mentioned how the lower part of his spine got injured and that's why he can't walk.

    3. What if David decides to get a transplant? ( artificial legs) What about those patches where he feels it some times? what he duplicate those cells? There might be many ways we don't know about.

      Delete
    4. #deandre his legs were also broken with his spine that's why he couldn't move them after that dream he told us today.

      Delete
    5. That's true, but David is "gritty" towards the subject, he will go above and beyond to be able to walk.

      Delete
    6. But how is grit going to make him walk again.

      Delete
    7. Why don't you think anytime soon? Do you think it's impossible just because it looks and sounds impossible?

      Delete
    8. #jackie I am not saying it is immposible everything is possible if you try. He can't grow his spine back or his legs he can just be motivated that he will walk.

      Delete
    9. Subhan his legs arent broken,, his spine cause his legs not to work. Gitie just because he believes himself itdoesnt mean he would walk again. I get it, you know that quote, `Think positive and you get positive outcomes.`` I understand that is true. But he has a major injury in his spine, what happens if his cells can`t fix it (question mark) What happens if what he said about cell regeneration never actually happens(question mark) Not everrything goes as plan...

      Delete
    10. @Jackie no, it's because he's a 13 year old boy who has the confidence he CAN walk, it is going to be hard for old people to take him seriously, they might take him as a joke.

@Subbhan the lady in the True Grit video said the people who are grittier are more likely to succeed. And the fact that David mentioned it twice, in what i assume is 1-2 weeks means something.

      Delete
    11. Subhan if you are saying that nothing is impossible then why do you say that it can not happen?!?!?! Our world has that technology now :P

      Delete
    12. @Abigail I understand that, but what if cell regeneration is not the only cure? David is a clever guy, I'm sure he will find a lot of possibilitys. Also David's a convincing guy, he may not be alone, what if asks scientist, or people who he knows will actually help?

      Delete
    13. Mannat: So wht if we have technology (question mark) As much as I love technology, and helps out our society, that isnt the answer to our everydy problem. Are you trying to say that Techonology can make David go back on his feet. (question mark)

Gitie: Well yeah being more grittier can make you succed because your succesful, but thats more for like learning purposes, educational goals, career goals and eetc... Just saying "I will be on my feet again." Isnt going to magically make David go back on his feet.

      Delete
    14. also for gitie: find possibilitys??? David isnt a professional scientest. Things can't always go as plan, so we got to consider that.

      Delete
    15. I assume you are thinking of as cell regeneration as the only cure. If David actually really wanted to walk, he can use artificial legs. That is a pretty likely cure that won't "malfunction"

      Delete
    16. Yeah about that you won't be able to do half of the stuff with artificial legs.

      Delete
    17. Gitie: His spine is injured which means that all the nerves and the muscles in his legs aren't working. Using an artificial leg wouldn't work for him, he still wouldn't be able to walk. Also if he was able to use artificial legs why wasn't he recommended those from the start of his accident?

      Delete
  4. 1.Will David’s predictions turn into reality? Yes or No? support your position with facts from the book.
-I think David is correct, I believe he will walk again. I think this because David has done his research and he studies about it every night. The science says that he will walk again. David shows his Determination every day towards him wanting to be equal and him going to walk again. David will walk again.

      Delete
    3. The science didn't say for sure that he will but if his cells regenerate he might be able to walk but if mitosis process of regenerating cells happens too fast he might lose his legs for ever, but he has chances of walking again.

      Delete
    4. Yeah it did, the project on cell regeneration and the research he does on his own.

      Delete
    5. But what if David walks!?!?!?! But with artificial legs, it's a possibility if he is really sick and tired of the wheel chair.

      Delete
    6. But if he has artificial legs he won't be able to half of the thinks we do artificial legs won't make his walk he broke his spine he cat walk.

    7. Didn't he mention he was a lucky one who never broke his spine badly?

  5. In my opinion I truly believe Davids predication would turn in to reality. I know I can't be 100 percent right but as far as I know David believes in him self and his belief would never turn him down. While David and Sean were doing there cell project David had researched about it a lot. David knows a lot about cells so he's probably sure that he would be cured. The most strongest ability is to have faith and to believe in yourself and David has ability and access to belief is I am pretty sure he would be cured and would be able to walk again.

    3. He would throw his chair off the ravine. As included in the text after he is able to walk again he would throw his chair off the ravine

      Delete
    4. Eric as long as I think it wouldn't take that much time probably at the end off the book like i said I can't be 100 % right but David believes in himself and the biggest ability is the power of belief. I really don't think it would be after his life time

    5. What if They Find the cure after Davids Lifetime

    6. Well it's not like I know when it will happen but it will happen for sure is the most I can say

  6. I Believe that David's predictions will turn into reality. I believe that if you have true grit and the courage and determination of doing something, you will achieve it. David is ANXIOUS to just jump out of his wheelchair and start walking and playing basketball again. He really wants what he wants. I feel that he would do anything to get out of his chair. This is why i think that David takes so much risks. He takes it because he is full of rage and anger. It all hooks back to his anger and right to be angry. Just like Mr.Cheney said when we were watching Valkyrie and when we listened to the song I was here by Beyonce... Death happens quickly, suddenly. David lost many thingss that he lost. He almost died. It is hard to loose something in just a matter of seconds. So i believe that he will walk again. He has the belief and determination. I think he can do it.

    4. You are correct but what does Determination have to do with it? He can't do anything to fix his spine or else he would have donec it, he would be doing it everyday. David's spine injury is out of his hands, he can't really do anything about it. He has to wait, and he knows he has to wait. He has the research to prove that he will walk again but he can't show determination.

      Delete
    5. Its out of his hands not out of his reach.
Being determined to do something means you wont stop until you have got it. It might not happen now but it could still happen... its possible.

    8. But it is also possible that it may not happen because it not something David can't do, it's the doctors or scientists. As well the book is near the end what if his dream still remains a dream? That can happen as well.

      Delete
    9. Srushti : David can't do anything about it, I agree. His dream could also just remain a dream. But he believes he will walk again. And he also has the research as well. Everyone can believe. And sometimes if you truly believe, you can get closer to your goal

      Delete
    10. Yes you are correct he does have the research to prove he will walk again. But I wouldn't use the word Determination, I would use Passion, David has the passion and dedication to walk again.

    11. Does the science mean for sure one day he will walk again? How often does this happen in reality? How much of our predictions are based on our beliefs...meaning we want him to walk again, so we find the facts that suit our story.

      Delete
    12. Well.. The science doesn't mean for sure. But he knows a lot about his legs and cells. He is using his research and facts to help him believe that one day he will walk again and that he has a chance to be like other people.

    21. David can't give up, cause he can't do anything to help or stop the regenerating of his cells. I agree that you need Determination in life but I think David is Passionate and Dedicated not Determined cause he can't do anything! It is out of his hands! and I corrected myself after using the mis-lead word "Determination"

  7. 1) I'm going with, David will walk again but not until 25 or 30 years again. In the very earlier chapter of the book when David did his project, cell regeneration he researched and said ' right now at the science laboratory their working on regrowing body and in the near future they will be able to grow a whole new spine for me'. In the future they will also have advance technology so that when they replace him spines they can connect veins and every thing so he could walk. He might end up having a prosthetic legs.

  8. 2) i think that Sean understands the crap David has to deal every day and how the wheel chair feels and everything but truly Sean will not go through what David has. Sean does it for a day and David does It through out his life. Also spending 6 months in a hospital, all the boringness and pain he had to go through.

  9. 1. I can not say whether or whether not davids prediction becomes reality. But I do think it will . David seems very determined in the book he is so confident that he will walk again . When we are determined to do something we usually do what ever we can to make it come true and from what i can see david is determined that we will walk again and he seems as if he will do anything ,and everything just to stand on his two feet again .

    1. But what does determination have to do with it? He can't do anything to help grow back his spine back, if he could he would be doing it but it is out of his hands he can't do anything about it. He just has to wait.

    2. Do you think him being reckless can lead to more problems in his spine, like what if he falls of the stairs and hurts his spine again, isn't that going to make things worse?

    3. You cant damage something thats already been done.

we don't know if he has been doing anything . He wont stop until he walks again some how . He is determined to walk again , Yes its not in his hands but that doesn't mean its not in his reach.

      Delete
    4. It isn't is his reach. He can't do anything about his spine but hope and wait. It is out of his hands. He may want to do anything to walk again, but he truly can't do anything.

    5. I agree he can't grow his spine back if someone can the doctors who can at least try.

    7. did you know there are feeling spots in our legs. Sometimes when legs are paralysed we have these blotches of feelings and they are possible to work with and make your legs work again. 11. Ummm he can get worse, but it is highly un-likely.

      Delete
    12. I never said it didn't connect I just said the word Determination can't really be used cause he can't show how Determined he is he can only be Dedicated and Passionate

      Delete

  11. 1. I believe that David will be able to walk again, though not in the book, since the book is nearing it's end. Maybe in the epilogue, if there is one.
I say this because David has done the research regarding cell regeneration, and the theory makes sense, too. He also has True Grit, with his long term goal being succeeding as a basketball player. Even if he lost his means of running, he is sticking to that goal no matter what.

      Delete
    2. I'd be surprised if he found a cure during his lifetime! It's still very advanced technology and may not even be possible, unless the story takes place in future years or something, which I doubt. If he's 50 when he gets his legs back, he probably wouldn't pursue his dream any more (what a shame..) since he's too old, but If by some crack miracle, he regains his legs in say,,, a year or two, or maybe even five? He'd never give up.

    3. Yeah but in my opinion I don't think he's gonna get it soon. The least could take is like 15 years cause if you imagine that's pretty hard to do.

  12. 2.Did Sean’s day in the wheel chair work? What do you think Sean has learned? And how will this change his actions?
-I think Sean's day in the wheel car will make him treat David better, He will be a bit more understanding of David's choices. Sean first made the mistake in saying "I understand" but really he never did and never will understand what David has been through. The day in the wheel car will change their friendship and change the way Sean acts and talks to David. He will be more like a real friend stand up for him as he did in Wendy's drive through because before Sean wouldn't have done that, but I think this day in the wheel car will change Sean.

  13. 1) I Believe in David's predictions because I really think that David will be able to walk again at the ending of the book because I remember that David and Sean had a cell regeneration project and when they were eating David says I believe that I can walk again and then Sean said to David I think you are right and I believe you.

    2) I think yes the day in the wheel chair for Sean worked because he knows how being in a wheel chair feels like and he also got to know David a little more than he knew, Also I think that Sean learned how do stuff in the wheel chair and how people are when you are in the wheel chair, Also I think now Sean will change his actions because he knows how it feels like being in the wheel chair and now he will be a little bit more better with him because he now understands how being in a wheel chair feels like.

    8. No he really can't. You have an idea of how they feel . But he can't feel what david feels he hasn't been through the same thing . For an example a broken heart you will never know the pain of a broken heart until yours has been broken . You will never know how it feels to break your leg if yours has never been broken. He dose not know how david feels because he has not been through the same thing.

  15. 2. Sean has gotten some meaning but I would not say he totally understands it. Yes he knows the pain you get in your arms or the height differences on the side walk etc. But Sean doesn't know the feeling to wake up in the morning and not be able to move his legs. He isn't having the "deluxe expierment". He understands about 80% of the life in a wheel chair. The other 20% will most likely remain a mystery to him, un less Sean gets in to a major accident as well. Although David describes it pretty well, he won't (most likely) ever feel what David feels. The other 80% is the sore arms you gain, the fact that they get babied (as if they are in strollers) And that being in a wheel chair comes with great responcibilitys. And I feel like Sean learnt a lot about David as well.

    1. Do you think Sean would become a better friend after listening to David's background

    2. Sean would know his "do's and don'ts" if you consider that a better friend then yes, I feel like Sean shouldn't change the way he acts totally

      Delete
  16. 2. Sean's day in the wheel chair actually turned out the way he wanted to be. Him being in a wheelchair was more like an experiment to see how David feels every day, why David has a lot of angry and of course why is he so reckless. After being in a wheelchair for a day, Sean now knows one of the most important time of David's life. Sean was always curious to find out about David's accident, and now he knows. I figure Sean has learned the really wistful accident of David in a descriptive way. So now I think Sean has learned how it feels like to be David and what he had to suffer. I think Sean would change his actions now and give David more confidence, that he will get better. As well Sean may encourage him to play wheelchair basketball since, basketball was his dream. And I assume Sean wouldn't be too polite again and feel sorry for David being on a wheelchair.

  17. I think David's Predictions will be come true because David has the determination and facts to somewhat prove that there will be a way to regrow a spine so he can walk again in the future it might not be in a year or two it might be ten or 20 years before that kind of technology is developed im still not 100% sure but all that in know is that there is a good chance he will walk again

  21. So you think 80% of Sean understands most things? Facing the fact that people think David's retared and has to deal with that crap every single day where Sean only deals this for a few hours. Also to mention what about David spending 6 months in a hospital. That pain and boringness he had to go through. What about his basketball dream destroyed? Do you still think it's 80% to 20%?

He may not know that, but what about when people automatically become nicer when they see his "condition". The struggle it is to get out of a crowded room, the stares, the sore arms.

I think Seans thoughts will change. I think sean will appreciate having legs more . I also think Sean will be little more cautious about how david feels about things and how to treat him and how not to treat him because it seemed like sean didn't like people treating him like a baby or like there was something wrong with his brain.
In my opinion i don't think sean shouldn't change i think sean should be aware of more things now and appreciate more things now but i don't think he should change his actions towards David he should still treat him the same way he did before i just think sean should now see things differently .

  24. 1.) I think that David's predictions will turn into reality. Why? 'Cause as we all know know David's a really smart kid. So smart to even know about how to gain back cell regeneration. Because I remember in chapter 12 in the book when David and Saen got an ‘A’ on their science assignment it was about cell regeneration. It was so well put, had important facts and information. Since we all know that David did most of the work and stuff that we know that he is really determine and serious about walking again.

    3. I don't think at all that the science will make him walk again, but most of it will. If he refers back to it when he gets into greater detail. And actually it can be certain. Do you think that he won't just because it's a small Steichen project?

  25. 1) Will David walk again? I strongly agree with him that he will walk again because he has the determination of walking again he's motivated to walk again he has studied everything on cell regeneration and anything is possible if you try hard and put all of your time on it so I believe that David will walk again.

    1. But what does Determination have to do with it? David can't do anything about his back injury, it is out of his hands, he has no control in anyway to help him regenerate his missing cells. David has the research to prove he will walk again, but he can't show determination cause there is nothing he can do but wait.

  27. I have a feeling that the story will take a turn and by some miracle David will walk again only because I'm so used to seeing and reading happy ending stories but for the most part I don't think David's going to walk again. In his project he did state that doctors are working on cell regeneration but I don't think that'll happen at least not in his life time. But by the end of the book i don't think he'll be out his chair

  28. 2.The trip to the mall definitely snapped him out of thinking he understood completely without trying it beforehand how David felt, and the conversation afterwards opened his eyes to just how upsetting David's story and experiences really were. I'm betting that now, Sean understands that it must have been hard, but realizing it wasn't as easy as he David made it look, and now knowing he will probably never truly experience the burden of being 'disabled' and losing everything so suddenly. So, basically, he understands now, but doesn't know the feeling of the experience of losing one's legs. This will affect Sean's behaviour by making him into someone he could talk to about this whole ordeal, someone to be comfortable discussing this matter with, as Sean now will act more sensitive (as in able to relate with him, if even just a little bit) towards him.

  29. 1) My prediction is that David will walk again, because of his determination. David really believes in his self, because he seems really hurt from his past.
    2) I think that Sean's day in the wheel chair totally worked. Sean now understands how David spends his every day life. Now that Sean now knows how it feels how to be in a wheel chair, he'll now understand the reasons for David's actions.

    4. I think determination plays an important role in David's mental state, because if he doesn't have grit, he's just give up and wallow in self-pity, and wouldn't have even bothered to research about cell regeneration, and would never have even knew if a cure came out or not.

  31. 1) I disagree with David's prediction. David said he may walk again, his prediction may be wrong though, not to put his spirit down :'(. Even though during one of his studies about cell regeneration, he explained that how scientist are trying to grow new body organs in future, he also explained about how cells go through mitosis for the body to grow, repair themselves and etc. But this is science we are talking about, nothing will go as plan. What happens if scientist aren't able to make a entire new organ? Scientist don't have the answer for everything, we have to consider the pros and cons of David getting back on his feet. What happens if the mitosis process (cell regneration) malfuction in the human body? Not everything is going to go as plan. Yeah David talked about getting back in his feet. He has that long term goal, and that confidence, but this is a prediction, we have to consider the cons as well.

Arvind: So what if David researched about cell regenration? We researched about it in science, (mitosis) We learned something, but it doesnt really do much for us. There are negative sides to his prediction and I think we should consider that.

  32. 2. Sean will never understand what David has or is going through, neither do I to be honest. Unless Sean or I end up in a wheelchair of course. I wouldn't say David plan to put Sean in a wheelchair didnt work, i would say it worked but not very efficient and as affective as it should have. David wanted Sean to have a understanding of what it feels to be in a chair, and Sean in my opinion has gotten some understanding but not total and he never will. Though Sean has learned a few things. He knows how to work and control a wheelchair, and most importantly knows how it feels to be in one. He feels tiny compared to other people, and he always gets that SLOW AND SOFT talk from other people. Knowing all of this, Sean will treat David differently. David will still be the same David. But Sean wont be the same Sean to David. I feel that this Wheelchair plan for Sean was successful. David and Sean had a chance to talk, and David was able to share his life story to Sean. Sean's actions will change and he will have further knowledge and understanding of being a disabled child as the book goes on. I think that now, Sean feels pity and sorry for him since he knows most of David's past.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 2) Did Sean’s day in the wheel chair work? What do you think Sean has learned? And how will this change his actions?

-I think seans day in the wheel chair kinda work he got a small taste of how it fells to be in a wheel chair but he ha-sent got the full package sean only experienced one day not a whole year I think sean has learned how it feels to be in a wheel chair how hard it is and how much you get pity from other people but none the less sean only got a taste of how it really feels to be in a wheel chair 24/7 And now sean knows a little of how hard it is to be in a wheelchair and he also knows that being in a wheel chair is hard stuff and when other people pity you it feels like you a little kid so now sean will treat david with more respect and not pity him .

  34. 2 I think that Sean has learned that how hard it is for David's every day life at school, home and as well as the real outside world (in public) and yes I would say that Sean's day has went very well with David and in a wheel chair. He will now be careful of what he says around David such as NOT SAYING "that it's easy to be in a wheel chair"

    ReplyDelete

    1. Sean's the only one that knows about how David feels, do you think Sean will help make a change and be careful no one else feels sorry for him and etc

  35. Yes i do think Sean day in the wheel chair worked he got to experience a little bit of what David going through little by little. He also got to here David's story his background. How he had to go to rehab and had social workers down his back all the time. That helped him understand David more and where he's coming from

    ReplyDelete
  36. 2.) I think that Saen's day in the wheelchair worked out in way. I mean he really got the basics and understanding of what it is like to be in a wheelchair. Getting cramps, sometimes not controlling the chair properly and getting treated as if your mental or something. I think that Sean has learned of what David gets treated like most of the time and how really dumb and awful it is. He see's how David struggles and most of the time, and most of the time for David is EVERYDAY. He realizes how David HATES being in a wheelchair, and worst part of all he hates how PEOPLE treat him just because he is in a wheelchair. I don't think that with Sean and his actions towards David won't really change anything, or except that sometimes Sean needs to think twice before what he will say might. But Sean does try to understand when he is in his feet and David is in his wheelchair. He sometimes think that before what he will and what David might feel after it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think that David dream will come true because they are currently working on cell regeneration, so basically they take a stem cell and try to regenerate the certain cell that was loss. That was what David was talking about the presentation that they explained for the class. So he does have hope so I think Sean should support him in throwing his wheel chair away

2.) I think it will show him all the pro and cons in a wheel chair. If he ever doubts David again he will remember the event that happen to him in the wheel chair and wouldn't want to insult him again. And so he will change his perspective of being in a wheel chair and never judge David (or at least I don't think he would
    B-)

  38. The triped to the mall didn't change a lot of Sean's thinking because he only lost his legs for a day and David might forever,so I guess he didn't really feel how David had felt, but when David told Sean the whole story of what happened to him that's when I think Sean really felt it because he said that his hopes David didn't see him cry so I think the mall not a lot but the story at the grudge I think that that really changed Sean's thinking of David accident.

  39. I think David's predictions will turn into reality. David keeps on doing research about his legs and if he would be able to walk again. From all the research he has done, he believes that he WILL walk again. I think it will happen at the end of the book . Now I know people might say that the way he TAKES RISKS won't let him walk again. That is true, but it has a very less possibility for it to be true.

  40. 2. In my opinion, Sean`s wheelchair in a day did work out because he wanted to know how it was kinda like to be in David`s shoe, and well it work. He learned, that being on a wheelchair, others think you are a mental-slow thinker. Others think you are disable permanently. After hearing David side of the story, of being in rehab, and his experience on the accident, even Sean himself felt sorry for David, he had tears rolling down his face. I think what Sean learned will show him how David actually feels, and can probably kind of change his perspective on David`s personality, it can show Sean, that David just wanted to be a normal teen, just like himself, but instead he stuck on a wheelchair.

    ReplyDelete
  41. 1. David predicted that he will be able to walk again and I don't disagree with him. David is someone who knows what he's saying, he has all the backup he needs. He's got a say for every possible conversation and won't let himself fall low. When he and Sean were crossing the street after the day that they got back their science project with an unexpected A+, Sean - still in shock - had a little chat with David to clear up the confusion where he found out that David knew almost 'everything'. David had done a lot of research on the spinal cord and injuries. It seemed like he knew every possibility that there would be in a spinal cord injury. After knowing that David knows a lot about stuff related to his injury, it would be kind of obvious that it's possible that there is a possibility for him to get up on his feet again. So it wouldn't be a bad idea to believe in him and trust his words.

  43. 2) Yes i tihnk that Sean got an idea of how David lives his everyday life by David taking him around in the wheel chair. Sean also knows how David feels when people treat him diffrent then others. this will change Seans acoutins by treating David like a nomal person becaues thats how David wants it.

  44. I think Sean's day in a wheel chair will let Sean know that David doesn't have it easy when he is in a wheelchair for most of the day but Sean doesn't know what it feels like to be in a hospital for six months with social workers asking you if you are okay every single day.I think Sean learned that David can't go everywhere with his wheel chair and that people treat you like your deaf or your like some sort of animal.I think Sean's actions would change because he was in a wheel chair for a day and he understands why David takes risks and gets angry at Wendy managers. So Sean would become a better friend to David and help him for his needs .

    ReplyDelete
  45. Answer #2: Sean's day on the wheelchair has quite worked out. Sean has learnt the way of David spending his time in the wheelchair and how much ability and strength you need to be in a wheelchair but hasn't understood David's pain. Yes he gets some of the pain but most of his understanding is incomplete. Sean hasn't been through the harsh and difficult obstacles David has had to face. Sean hasn't seen the whole picture. I know she an has learned maybe about 70-80 % of David's life in a wheelchair but the rest of the percentage is incomplete. The only way Sean can understand the pain is if he would had been in an accident and understand how such a big accident can change your whole entire life. Sean understands the difficulty and anger David faces but hasn't seen the big and most important part he has to learn. I believe from Sean's understanding the most important part that is missing is the accident.

  46. 1. David's prediction that he will be able to walk again will come to reality because he has lots of evidence and proof of him standing up again oneday. Also David has done alot of research on his paralasis and cures for it so he knows what he is talking about. For example for their science project, they did on Nerve Cell Regeneration and David did extra work because he knew so much about it. Another example could be when David and Sean were together and they were walking on the sidewalk, Sean asked David if he would be able to walk again and David quickly answered with determenation and said "Someday I'll get out of this chair and walk again". David also said docters and scientist are working on a way to regenerate human nerve cells just like Newts can grow back their tails. I think by the end of the book David will start to walk again.

  50. I think that David's predictions will become true. Not now, maybe later. But will be true. I am 99% sure that David will get of his wheelchair. But there is also a 1% chance of him not getting of the wheelchair. That is because he is always taking risks, and unfortunately if something happens which will lead him to stay on that wheelchair forever. There might not be hope for getting of that wheelchair. I think that he has a 99% chance of getting of that wheelchair because as you all know that David bilieves that he will once again walk, he does a lot of research about his problem, and the way David's mom got shocked when she found out that David has been playing basketball and is really good at it etc. All these things prove that David wants to get better soon, that's why he is doing research on it, and since David is playing basketball this could also mean that his health is improving. So maybe he will get better soon.

    ReplyDelete
  51. 1: scientifically no, but maybe with David's motive he could heal his broken bone, they say confidence builds confidence, David is positive that he will walk, and he not letting his disorder slow him down.

2:Yes it did, when Sean was at the mall he took a break while using the elevator, to go down, and he had stated
"it is a long way down" I offered as an excuse. I didn't tell him I had stopped for couple of minutes.
He way exhausted and he wanted to get out the chair. When David and Sean were talking, David and Sean both stared tearing, when Sean had realized he was in this chair for a day, but David was in there for possibly the rest of his life. He had realized the pain, and agony.

    ReplyDelete
  52. 2.) No I don't think that Sean's day in a wheelchair makes him understand how he lives/feels everyday, I think that because a day isn't enough for someone to know how he is living his daily life, Even though that he spent a day in a wheelchair he won't be able to understand

    ReplyDelete
  53. 2. I think that Sean's day in a wheelchair followed through on the path that David expected it to go. Even though Sean didn't really tell David about his pain and embarrassment, David's getting what he wants - Sean is getting to know life in a chair. David may not know that Sean is anxious to get out of the chair but Sean is learning his lesson. From the embarrassment that he got by the store clerk, Sean is understanding what David goes through and learned that help only made things worse. So from now on, I think that Sean will be more aware of his behaviour with David and will make sure he doesn't do anything that will make David rageful, now that he's also been through a bit of it.
