Quiet Reading DEAR
1. Why did you choose the book you are reading?
2. Tell me something interesting from your reading this morning (an event, a character, a fact)
3. Recommend this book to someone in the class and tell them why you are recommending the book to them.
1. I chose this book to read because it was recommended to me by a friend. I was told it was something I would enjoy, it has vampires, physic people , and its very interesting .I didn't think I would enjoy it but after I read the first few chapters last week It became very interesting. It really captured my attention when i did read the chapters before it left me with many questions because it seemed as if every chapter was a cliff hanger.
ReplyDeleteBecause i had so many questions and was into the book i wanted to read more of it so my questions could be answered and not only that because I am engaged in the book.
"The Bread Winner by Deborah Ellis"
ReplyDelete1) I picked this book because i have been recommended from a class mate and my dad. And the summary on the back, is actually keeps me into the book. It makes me want to know whats going to happen!
2) The protagonist who is a girl. Dresses and acts like a boy to get around the harsh times. The book emphasizes the lack of equality in this time and setting.
3) I would recommend this book to anyone who really knows Persian with in our class would be Tamana and Omid. I would recommend it to them because 1st thing 1st, it has some persian words which i doubt anyone else would understand. And it gives you a greater knowledge of what was and possibly is going on.
1.) I chose the book I am reading because I really enjoy books with drama and with characters that apply to an everyday life instead of the magical ones. Also because my friend suggested it to me commenting saying that it's a really interesting book.
ReplyDelete1. The book I chose was: Ender's Game, By: Orson Scott Card.
ReplyDeleteI decided to read this book a few weeks ago, maybe a month ago, after I watched the film based on the book. The film was amazing and it's effects were unreal! (In a good way) Ender's game is a Science Fiction novel, which I try not to read because I don't particularly prefer that genre, but Ender's Game is an exception. Plus, everybody knows that the book is always better than the film, so, I gave it a shot! I'm really glad I did, too, though I'm only halfway to the end.

ReplyDelete1) Well the reason I choose this book is that this book is written by my favourite author which is Jeff Smith so that is why, Another reason is that
ReplyDeleteThis book was an adventure book which I admire.
2) The part where I found it interesting was that when I found out that Big Bone Johnson was getting ready for the fair to win a blue ribbon for an eating contest and he was about to win but he let his opponent win.
3) I would recommend this book to students who like Bone and who is a fan of Jeff Smith, Also for students who admire adventure.

Delete1) I chose this book The House On Hackmans Hill because when i saw the book it caught my eye because on the cover it had a photo of a mummy then when i read the back of the book i got more interested to read the book because when I read the back it said its about a mummy hidden in a house and who ever finds it get 10,000$ and that the mummy is cursedand everyone told them to stay away from the house so its a horror and mystery type of book and I like these genres in a book so that's why I chose this book.
ReplyDelete1. today i read the book MALICE. i didnt finish this book at first so i renewed it at the school library. i love this book very much it has taken my attention until now and is ver very interesting.
ReplyDelete2. MALICE is a mystical place in the world of comics. to get in you need
-a black feather
-a twig
-a knot of cat fur
you put these things in a bowl and burn them in fire and say "tall jake take me away" 6 times
3.i would recommend this book to rochelle. she likes mystical and spooky storys. plus this has alot of mystery that everyone enjoys the most.the book has a variety of geners like...... mystery, spooky, supernatural etc.
I choose this book because it is a book about adventure and seeing new things like rat creators and small creators that talk.
ReplyDeleteI find that there are hiding spots and tunnels planted every where by the small bones people and secret temples all over the place.
I would for recommend this book to Suhaib. The resin why because he in like to read books with adventuers.
#1. I chose the book I was reading because I really like the author who wrote this book. Even though I have just started reading "A Week In The Woods", I trust that the book is good because I enjoy this type of genre and this authors writing.
ReplyDelete2.) Something interesting I was reading for the book this morning is one of the main characters Savon. Hakeem (his cousin that just moved in with him) find that all the robberies from the stores around town had something to do with Savon and with him coming in late, having really expensive stuff around Savon's side of the room, and with Savon's mysterious additude toward Hakeem.
ReplyDelete2. Ever More (main character) Could now know anything or know everything about someone with just a single touch its apart of her physic ability she got after the car accident . If she touches her test/quiz paper the answers will limitedly be reviled to her, If any contact of her body brushes someone else she will know everything about them , if she touches a book she will know everything that happen begging to end.
ReplyDelete3.I would recommend this book to jackie. I know she watches tv shows like this such as pretty little liars, ravens wood, ect and the book so far seems to be very alike like the shows she watches . (all mysteries and cliff hangers) That is why i would recommend it to her i believe she will engage in it more because she watches and enjoys shows that are similar to the book I am reading .
1)Actually, the book I choose was an national geographic book. I choose this book because I didn't felt like reading an novel and this book actually did looked very interesting.
ReplyDelete2) I've actually read something interesting. I've read that the world's greatest works of literature was decorated with REAL gold! and was bound in genuine leather!
3)I recommend this book to everyone in this class, not just this specific book but any national geographic book. These books are very, very interesting because , these books has stories that actually happened for real , basically these books are books of history.
1. I picked the book " The tale of Despereaux" because it was recommended to me by many friends. From everything people have told me about it, and the summary at the back of the book, I thought it would've been a great story. After reading the first few chapters I noticed that this book is really nice. From reading this book, you can tell what the author is trying to say faster than other books.
ReplyDelete3,) I would recommend this book to Abby because this book has a allot of drama and inside stores that I'm sure she would love to read about. Since I know Abby loves to read drama stories and that's one of the things that entertains her in life I know that this book would be a great one for her. Oh, and of course you are wondering ABIGAIL, the boo's called Bluford High: Blood Is Thicker.
ReplyDelete2) One interesting part in this story that im reading is that two cousins are planing to go and find the mummy for the reward that they will win but they don't know that the mummy is cursed and everyone told them to stay away from the house and the mummy but they did not listen and went ahead to find it
ReplyDelete1) The book I am reading (night runner), was recommended to me by my friend. She told me it was entertaining as well as engaging. Though my other friend told me it was really boring. Now that I have the book, I am really into it and cant stop reading. Every chapter comes to a high point on a book and than stops, which makes me keep on readingto find out the next scenario and the solution. This book is basically of kid who has a really tangled life and has no one to answer hos questions. Who is he? Why isn't he living with his parents? Who are his parents? Why does he sleep in the day and wake up at night like bats? What is he and who is he? All of a sudden when he is starting to achieve his answers, they get more deeper and stops at a point of him being a "vampire". The title page is simple but every details. A well the summary keeps me hooked to the book.
ReplyDelete1) I choose the book because it had the characteristics, horror and mystery. My top 2 favourite. The title and brief summery at the back was what pulled me in to reading. The book had a lot of cliff hangers which had me engaging to read more and more each time.
ReplyDelete2) The main character( boy ) seen his grandmother talking with the dolls. He awkwardly backs away. Later in the night when he's sleeping the same dolls as earlier has found its way to the graveyard nest to his backyard.
3) I'd recommend this book to mystery lovers and horror lovers to. In the class.
The book I'm reading is called The BREADWINNER Book II
ReplyDelete1. Although my biggest interest isn't history, I actually thought that this book was very interesting. I chose this book because I wanted to become more familiar with my background. I wanted to learn more about Afghans, their struggles, religion, and beliefs. Sure my parents apprise me and tell me about Afghanistan, but it is all from their experience and perspective. I wanted to learn more about the country and I wanted to learn what it was like to live in a place where there are strict regulations made by the Taliban who took over the country. Today I read a book about a little girl's life as an Afghan in a war torn land.

ReplyDelete2. There was actually a really interesting part in this book. In the book it says that if a mouse was born with really large ears or with his/her eyes open, they are born with an illness and the parents would kill them!
ReplyDelete2. The three child siblings the story really revolves around, are all natural-born killers with unbelievable intelligence, and the government are trying to make use of that, to wipe out another race from space, where they train soldiers to fight those aliens.
ReplyDeleteThe first child, Peter, was far too violent, so they had the parents create a daughter, hoping she would have the same intelligence, yet behave more mildly. Valentine was, but she was far too timid. So, they created a 'third'. This was Ender, and he was a perfect mix of both. The government take him to battle school to become a leader in the army built to fight the buggers from outer space.
He is currently eight, and hasn't been home in two years, from my place in the book.
13 year old Peter, His older brother always had a thirst for power and control, often leading to almost killing and threatening his little siblings.
Though timid, Valentine, though only 11, could seek out what a person is proud of most, flatter them, then manipulate them. She too, had a need for control. The two had just begun working together on Earth to manipulate adults on the internet with a secret identity.
Ender isn't quite crazy about power, but his intelligence is deadly.
1. Why did you choose the book you are reading?
ReplyDelete-I chose it because by reading the back I saw that this book took place back when spells and Alchemy was a thing. It also has to do with secret societies so that really caught my eye. It's actually a very interesting topic, and the book leads into some action towards the middle, so it seemed like a pretty good read.
2. Tell me something interesting from your reading this morning (an event, a character, a fact)
- So previous reading session they found out that there were secret passages in the house and they didn't understand why, so they just continued and found this room, it was an Alchemy Lab. So this session they learn that the passages were for The Alchemist in the house to have an easy way out, to get a quick escape because Alchemy at the time was illegal. So the 3 are down there, Sebastian, Pip and Tim. It turns out that the Lab they were in was Sebastian's Grandfather's lab. The house was also Sebastian's grandfather's house. Sebastian doesn't live there any more, Pip and Tim along with their mother do. So we learn that the house and lab was meant to be passed down to Sebastian but he didn't choose to accept it.
3. Recommend this book to someone in the class and tell them why you are recommending the book to them.
- I would recommend this book to William, Abigal, and Abdul. I would because I know they know about the secret societies and that they know that there is still one this very day, and I could be wrong in saying this, but I think they would enjoy the history in it.
The book is called: Doctor Illuminatus

Delete1. I chose to read this book because I find it as something interesting; it's a bit of horror, mystery and adventure all in one piece of text. I know that I enjoy reading all those genres but when I find it all in one, I can't hold back. There are parts in the book that involve a lot of talk about murders, blood, etc. but even after that, it's probably what makes the suspense so intense. While you are reading this book, you want to get through as fast as you can to find out who the 'woman in white" is, but at the same time, you won't ever be satisfied by reading just the ending. Although all the chapters in the climax are cliffhangers - and people prefer to know the outcome and leave - they are what makes the book fun to read. As you read the story, you'll most likely always end off at a spot that leaves you thinking about what will come next. Each chapter somewhat seems to be broken into three different parts where each one would either be adventurous, scary, suspenseful, or surprising. Each part may be different but each part blends into the other making a nice flow. When I first took a look at this book, the cover made me want to know what it's about leading me to the back and the back also leaves off with a cliffhanger which just grabbed all my attention. I enjoy horror the most but this book, is something I find even better.
ReplyDelete#2. Something that I have found interesting in my reading today was meeting the main character's science teacher Mr. Maxwell. The reason I found Mr. Maxwell interesting was because he wasn't like no ordinary teacher, he seemed like he was very fun to hang around with and all the homework he gave out was super fun and easy.
ReplyDelete2) An event or a moment in this book was when, Zachary became an eye witness of a old man getting shot 5 times by a police, but still remains alive.
ReplyDeleteAn other fact was Zachary finding out of him being a vampire by his uncle, and a few more facts about his family.
Zachary's "vampire" life brighting up. Such as he was about to kill the nurse to drink blood.
A really interesting point was, he found out that one of the nurse who always knew his secret before him, was now missing.
As well a "vampire villain " is after Zachary.
1) I chose this book because i was reading the 39 clues series before and this is the new version so i wanted to check it out and see if it was as good or not thats why i chose this book 39clues chillas vs vespers #1
ReplyDelete2) Something i read that was interesting was that in the prologue everyone was kidnapped in some special event or accident whether a snake bit or a shooting everyone had a different story how they got captured and they were all captured arount the same time 3:42,4:42,5:42,6:42 all on 42 minute mark plus they were all part of the chillas clan thats what i found cool about this chapter
3)I would recommend this book to anyone who like mystery, adventure and action not just this book but the whole series itself like the older books i hope his one has as much awesome events aswell as future books
1.I chose this book because I like books that are about adventures and mysteries. The book tittle is called Moody Manor. It is about a Gazebo(A bird made out of rock on a porch)that is worth money.
ReplyDeleteAnswer #1: The book I have chose is called magic under glass. This book was recommended to my by a friend. So far this book has been so engaging and interesting. I have only read a few chapters and I am already starting to predict about what is going to happen. I am really hooked with the book and I want to read more especially because the summary is well written and helps keep me engaged with the book. This book is extremely filled with magic and I like stories that connect to magic it just brings me to a whole new entire world.
ReplyDelete1its my library book I just saw the cover and decided to read it. Its called Home of the Brave. by Katherine applegate. It is about a boy named Kek he is from Africa and he moved to america without knowing much English because there was a war in his village he lost his brother father and mother he only has his aunt and his cousin Ganwar.
ReplyDelete2 Since he was new to america was learning new things his aunt went to work tired so he decided to help her out with the dishes but he thought the washing machine would wash dishes so he dumped them in and broke all of the dishes.
3 I would recommend this book to Abdul he would fine this book funny and interesting this is his kind of book.
3. I would recommend this to Sci-Fi lovers, but in particular, Sonali.
ReplyDeleteThis is not because she loves this genre, but because Sonali reads a lot of books relating to fantasy, and this one is sort of related to Fantasy. She also likes to read books, and I feel she'd enjoy this one just as much as I did.
Today I read a book called 'Betrayal' which is from the series 'Chasing Yesterday'.Betrayal is the second book from the series. I chose this book because it picks up right where the last book 'Awakening' left of. It is a whirlwind adventure from begging to end. I really liked the last book in which I knew I would enjoy this book too and so far it is amazing. This book is the same like the last one, it won't give you a second to slide to the back of your chair. The author describes each sentence with so much detail that I feel like I am actually a character in the book. There is so much going on at one time that if there wasn't proper description of what exactly is happening it would be hard to understand the main idea of the story. In this book the author has fulfilled his part in making this a book a descriptive novel that I will always cherish. I know that at the end of this book I will keep wondering what will happen next and I will be waiting for the next book to arrive and continue on with J.D.'s story and adventure.
ReplyDelete#3. I would recommend this book to Hassan because I feel like he has the same taste in books as I do. I would also recommend this book to Hassan because he really enjoy's reading this author reading.
ReplyDeleteThe titanic as we all know it sank from an iceberg, but if wanted to know more.
ReplyDeleteI survived is a series of book that explain tragedies from a perspective of a person, of a survivor. Instead of throwing in boring facts they changed it up and Mede the facts more interesting by adding description, climax, incidents etc.
2:the main character George, found out that someone was shipping a mummy, so he went to see it. It was located, I the first class baggage room, when he got there, a man had jumped on him. The man was here to steal stuff, but at that moment the titanic nudged an iceberg. And George had ran away.
3: I would recommend this book to suhaib, because he likes to read Eric Walters, and Eric, writes a lot of tragedy books like we all fall down, or safe as house. This book is plain fact so out the titanic but a story line about a boy on the titanic, which explains his experience, on a factual base.
1. I choose to read this book because a friend of mines suggested that I read this book, they told me it is interesting and its a book nearly like reading in watt pad (an App). I decided to read it, so far in the book I found it somewhat interesting and appealing to. I guess if I continue to read on, I would actually enjoy the book more.
ReplyDelete2. According to the main character in the novel (Penny), In Manhattan, there is a population of 1.6 Million people, and in Hog`s Hollow (a small town) there is a population of 5,134
3.I would recommend this book to someone who loves to day dream about food, especially cupcakes! I would also reccommand this book to someone who loves to read about Realistic Fiction, I wouldn`t really recommend this book to anyone in the class because, the book is quite about girl trying to fit in the environment, everyone is mean to her. It`s kind of like those story's that everyone would know the ending too. Therefore I wouldn't recommend to anyone.
3) I would recommend this book to Pooja and any other people who enjoy mystery and suspense filled in a book. I would recommend this book because it is filled with questions that will definitely make anyone start wondering. As well it is funny at the same time, this book includes villains, unrealistic characters and a huge mystery.
ReplyDelete3) I would recommend this book to Abdi because its about a cursed mummy and the mummy is trying to get revenge so its a mystery type of book and I know that he enjoys mystery books so that's why I recommend this book to him.
ReplyDelete2.One interesting event that happened was in the beginning of the book when Jinx (a grade 6 boy)crashed his bike into a bush because he saw a face looking at him through the window of the old Moody Manor mansion. He said it was Earl Moody's ghost (Lester Moody's brother)
ReplyDelete2. Something I found very interesting was how the protagonist (Parvana) dressed up as a boy to be able to go outside. Girls in Afghanistan are forbidden to leave their homes without a man or boy. So her mother cut her hair and gave her an entire new look to be able to go outside and make some money to buy food. Her father would help and support the family, but he was taken to prison when the Taliban figured he had too much knowledge and education. Parvana worked as a boy who read letters to the Taliban because they couldn't read and made less than a dollar for each letter. Because she wasn't making enough money, she left her work and started a new one that paid her more money than her last job. Parvana hid this information because she knew she needed the money and that her mother and siblings wouldn't allow her. And so, she started bone digging in graveyards to make money for her family so they wouldn't sleep hungry at night.
ReplyDelete3. I would recommend this book to everyone that loves reading about animals. I would also recommend it to the people who can understand a little bit of french. The french is easy. So I'm guessing everybody would understand it.
ReplyDeletei choose to read this book because it mystery, adventure my top favourite genres and the book is written by a author that i enjoy reading his books.i read the first 2 pages of the book and i was really interested because the book had different people with different perspectives and with different goals so thats why i choose this book.
ReplyDelete3.I would recommend this book to Zion because he enjoys adventures, mysteries and horror books ,this book is about a huge mansion with 23 rooms and a bird on the porch that leads to a whole new mystery and there are treasures within the house .This book also is based on a puzzle that Jinx,Drew,Allie and Liz are trying to solve.
ReplyDelete1.This book that I am reading is quite interesting. First I always thought that this book is not interesting, but one day I saw 2 of my friends fighting over 1 book. I thought that maybe I should try reading this book once. Maybe I might like it. So I took that book and as soon as I read the first few pages of that book, I wanted to read more. The first page was the page that caught my attention the fastest. It said that,
ReplyDelete" Here is a story that's stranger than strange.
Before we begin you may want to arrange:
a blanket,
a cushion,
a comfortable seat,
and maybe some cocoa and something to eat."
2.And there is also another part that I thought was interesting. Katrina was seeing very strange animals and/or shadows. She thought that they were beast. She told her guardian Mrs. Krabone what she had seen. But she would not believe it. She yelled at Katrina and told her to be quite. Katrina became quite but still looked outside the window of the train. And then she saw a mysterious thing. She first saw the shadow, but when the creature came in some light, not to be perfectly seen but the wierd thing was that it was wearing a tie.
2. This morning I read about 3 chapters from "The Ghost Of Graylock" and at this moment, I discovered where the true horror and suspense comes in. After Neil, Bree, Wesley and Eric returned from their horrifying trip to Graylock Hall what's more interesting is the fact that something or possibly even 'someone' had followed Neil back home that haunts him and Bree at night. It was said that the ghost of nurse Janet haunted and drowned those kids who dared to break into the dreadful asylum and now it's possible that the figure in white that shows up weeping in their rooms, leaving wet puddles of water on their beds and the floor close by is nurse Janet. Their aunt Anna had complained of seeing Nurse Janet by the woods and now with all this ghostly haunting talk and stuff, Neil's mother is ended into a mental hospital back in New Jersey. Her face comes in Neil's dreams and end up being nightmares but the crying figure, the wet bed and floor, the nightmares, nothing can be told to anyone. Everyone in that town was aware of the ghost of Nurse Janet and nobody was permitted to enter the building so if any of the terrifying night happenings were told, Anna and her sister Claire would've found out that they had entered Graylock Hall.
ReplyDeleteAnswer #2: In this book there is a girl named Nimira that sings in a music- hall for pennies. So when a wealthy young person hires her to perform with a piano playing automaton, Nimira thinks and believes after the performance she would have a better life but instead she spots secrets being hidden as well as a place where she is but did not actually expect it to be.
ReplyDelete2. In today's reading I read about two chapters of 'Betrayal'. In these two chapters J.D and Daniel are on the run, they are running from the people that are after J.D., which seems to be everyone. They are running from the visions in J.D's head that might be the past, might be the future, or might just be hallucinations. J.D. is also running from the guilt that she is probably responsible for the death of the women who, falsely, claimed to be her mother. The only thing either of them know for sure is that finding out the answers to J.D.'s past is the only hope they have for the future survival. If they can stay alive and free, long enough.
ReplyDeletethe character that was interesting to me was Melissa she is a pro hacker and that's her passion,so when his friend griffin got caught in a crime he didn't do the judge put a device on his leg that shows where he is,so Melissa hacked the device and it shows that he is being a good boy not braking any rules when he is out trying to find a clue to show he is innocent.
ReplyDelete3. I am reading the continuation of this book THE BREADWINNER. I Know that Gitie is reading the first book so I would most definitely recommend the continuation and second book for her. I believe that it is important to learn and have knowledge about our background and culture. That way, we cherish and be thankful for where and how we live now in Canada. We have schools in Canada that all children go to, girls however are prohibited to be at. I'm very fortunate to be in Canada where I am Free. Freedom is Power.
ReplyDelete3. I'm not exactly sure who would enjoy reading "The Ghost Of Graylock" although I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys, horror, mystery, and adventure and can handle a bit of blood and murder type context. The book is really fun to read but probably not for those who don't prefer the severe injuries and intense parts. I know that Rochelle would enjoy this book because she came up to ask about this book and maybe a few other people would also enjoy that I'm not aware of in the class.
ReplyDeletei wont say names because I am not sure but I recommend this book to people who like mystery and adventure also people who like books of Gordon Korman, also people who watched movies SWINDLE an liked it because it a next part of that book.
ReplyDelete3. This book called," ZORGAMAZOO" has an adventurous and mysterious story. That is not it. This story is a peotry story, which is also based on imagination. As far as I know Srushti loves peotry. She reads them and she makes them too. So I would recommend this book to Srushti and all those who enjoy these kind of stories/books.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend this book to everyone and and anyone who enjoys reading Adventure and Suspenseful books.People who don't enjoy a suspenseful and adventures climate in books this might not be the best book for those readers. Rajveer has read this book before and I got a very positive feedback about this book from him. I hope other readers will enjoy this book has much as I cherish this book.
ReplyDeleteAnswer #3: I would recommend this book to Dhavani and all the other students that like and enjoy mysterious books because this book is filled with mysterious adventures. This book is mystifying and really curious. People who like mysterious books would enjoy this book a lot. This book brings you to a whole new entire world filled with adventure.
ReplyDelete
