ReplyDeleteI think that the character I can relate with the most is Rob. One of the main reasons is that he's one of the kids who are nervous to go home with bad news or bad grades. I am inevitably one of those students who wouldn't dare go home with a R. Honestly, if I was Rob and I hadn't studied or wasn't good at the subject i would have cheated as well. Anyways, if I was doing a test I didn't study. I wouldn't want to go home with a bad grade, although it's the fear that makes me keep working, doing my homework and studying. On the other hand pop quizzes are "mighty killers". First of all you don't get to study and later on you just flunk and your parents end up with a gloomy face, ready to burst out with frightening emotions! I mean you didn't know there was a test and you didn't get to study...its completely not your fault. At this point I would cheat!
ReplyDeleteAnother reason is that Rob seems to speak very fast and snappy. I've been told to talk slower numerous times, honestly that doesn't help...10 seconds later I continue jabbering. Rob talks with a lot of nervousness and seems as though he is talking to a stranger. I don't fast talk all the time but sometimes when I am enthusiastic I tend to talk really fast unlike Rob who talks fast whenever he talks. Rob also speaks in very short sentences and I barely talk that way.
Rob also seems very scared at all times for example he once said" oh no. Oh no. Hands shake so bad, fumble my book" this seems highly nervous and sometimes I feel very nervous when it comes to trouble. There are many people out there who are chill with getting in trouble, although I am one of this people who can't take getting in trouble...and if I do I would get nervous in the same way and my heart will start to beat fast. This is one of the main reasons I try my best to stay out of trouble.
Yes, in my opinion, I would utterly agree with you! The character you most me remind me of would be Rob who easily gets nervous and I know how you try your best to keep your grades up as you have your parents pressure on you. In the book, Rob is terrified of the thought of him going home to tell his dad that he cheated on his midterm exams. The personality matches yours. We both know how much your parents expect from you and how you try your best to go beyond just satisfying them, and if you were to fail a test, how you would panic in fear. As you mentioned, “fear is what makes me keep working”, I’m assuming the only reason Rob fears the thought of bringing this situation up with his dad, is because his father would be disappointed, but at the same time acting like inferno burning down a nation! From our conversations, I know that you’re parents would probably react the same way due to your wrong decision. And yes, to be honest, you do speak fairly fast as if you’re in running like a cheetah with your feet on fire! Like in French class presentations, and how Madame tells you to speak more clearly because you’re speaking so fast! When you speak, you go straight to the point as you can be very choppy, which is why the character that you remind me most of would be Rob.
Deleteso we just started to read the book the cheat and it has done an amazing job of adding personality to each and every single one of there characters and we are only just at the start of thee book! As soon as the book starts you are put right in the heap of things with them already talking about how bad things have gotten but its not just from one view its from all six points of view. So its not very hared on having to think who im like the most........sadly it dan the man and no its not cause im arrogant its cause im to relaxed about things. I would probably do the exact same thing in that situation cause really it wasn't my fault for everyone getting the wrong exam answers i was just an innocent bystander who was simply brought into the mess and i never really feel nervous about thing's no matter how bad the situation is i useally just shrug it off and keep on gonging . Another reason i would be like dan is due to the fact that im very careless about things and i am. What i mean by that tho is im in no rush to get things done im in no rush to try and best others i just tend to let things happen.i tend to just be that guy who really just dosent have a worrie in the world. i don't know that's my opinion of who i think i relate to tell me if you think otherwise

ReplyDeleteAccording to my judgment, I would agree with you. The character you most remind me of would be Danny aka “Dan the Man”! The reason why, is because most of his attributes, which so far have been mentioned in the book can relate to you. Dan is like the popular kid in the school, who which I’m assuming mostly everyone knows about. When he was called to the office, his character demonstrated a calm character, and he tried to make himself understand that it isn’t his fault. He’s pretty chill and he doesn’t mull over things like cheating on his mid terms and failing. According to this, I would describe you most as Danny. You’re the type of guy that can get along with anyone, and nobody seems to be enemies with you. If you were to make a mistake and you know your parents wouldn’t be pleased by the thought, you still don’t terrify yourself. Just like Dan, who everybody has a reputation set for, you try to be the finest and like the cream of society, just like Dan; full of himself. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, there are a few others in this class you share the same personality, but when as a class we read Dans perspective, he reminds me most of you.
DeleteI did imagine you and a few others as Dan. He seems cool, calm, and collected. Even when he may or may not be in trouble. He is very relaxed and laid back. He seems arrogant but I just think he's a little over confident an that can be okay sometimes. I'm not really annoyed by him. You two (Marshall and Dan) share a lot of characteristics
DeleteThe character I can relate to the most in 'The Cheat' would be Danny. As most of his traits and overall personality is really relatable towards me. Well there are some traits that are poller opposites; but nevertheless this character is out of all characters the most similar to me.
ReplyDeleteThe strongest example would be the part when Danny and his mother were in the car; and Danny was getting yelled at by his mother. That very part of the book is a strong connection of my life and what would happen if I were to mess up, badly... Danny is the type of person who wants to have a secure future and has people who want him To be the 'best of the best'. Individuals who want him to have a secure future. There was Dan's mom who was extremely concerned and downright furious of Dan ruining his own reputation, she brought up countless evidence to show what type of student Dan is and how he doesn't belong in this mess. The fact that both of us have parents that can go off with us making mistakes and that these very parents are concerned with our reputation, honor and future; tells me that me and Dan have similar attributes.
Dan is also the type of kid that is always relaxed knowing that there can be a solution to the problem and that being envious is common for him and for me. When Dan was watching Rob in tears about to beg for mercy, he had the sense of calmness knowing that there is a possible solution; and that he need will go to high measure to see who is responsible. There Dan was seeing what could have happened and why he fell into this mess. Admitting he got the answers online, only to see why in the first place. Why Jake chose to give the answers to Sarah. All of this problem solving and having the sense of being calm and not flipping out makes me and Dan somewhat relatable.
No, from my perspective, I wouldn’t agree with you on this one. The character you remind me most of would be Rob. The biggest trait that as described of Rob in the text we have read so far was that, he’s a chicken to tell his dad about him cheating and failing. He’s seems to be very unequivocal, and is very nervous when it comes down to explaining his fault to his father. Now I know about your marks and grades and how you take them seriously due to the pressure you have on from your parents. Dan wouldn’t stress over failing or what his mother would think. And he told the Chen straight up in a relaxed tone. I’m pretty sure if you were in the principal’s office, you would be sweating buckets! Even though from how you describe that Dans mother is lecturing him in car and your parents would do the same, if we go in a bit deeper into Dans PERSONALITY, he’s a chill person when it comes to trouble! I wouldn’t say that describes you as a person. And when you talk, you don’t like taking things in circles, and you’re very straight to the point, “choppy” and Dan is described. Imagine you were to receive a cheat sheet, used it, and were caught and failed, on the verge of being suspended…you would be relaxed about it? I wouldn’t believe that!
DeleteI am kind of with both of you on this one. Reshmi is right as you seem like a very hard worker, but you also seem very relaxed like Dan. Not to the point of being self centred orway too relaxed. You don't seem like the kind of person who would use the cheat sheets. Like Reshmi said I don't think you'd be very "chill" if you got suspended.
Deletei think i am mostly like Katie. the reason i think i am mostly like her because if i were ever to take some answers to cheat, i would be too "chicken" to use them during the exam. either way i would be too nervous for the exam itself, i would be even more scared if i were planning on using the notes because i would be thinking about the consequences or how i could hide it from the teacher so i dont get in trouble. since grade 6 i am terrified of cheating because if my parents ever find out, they would kill me and if i get a good mark on a next test, they would think i cheated and never trust me again! so i am more like Katie because she was thinking about what would happen and just plainly chickened out. this exam is too important. its a mid term exam, so instead of risking myself getting into trouble, id rather study and ask questions while i can in order to not be caught. a similarity would be that we both are not good at geography. personally i KNOW i am terrible in geography because its just confusing and i dont even know or remember anything so maybe the fact that she doesnt know about the subject made her want to cheat.
ReplyDeleteI think that the Person that I relate to the most is Dan the man "Danny"
ReplyDeleteI think this because he is full of him self. Just the way people call him Dan The Man! Right there you can tell that he is a kid that's basically in love with his self so he's all about him self. In my opinion that's not bad. Like if your smart and If you think that your grades and your feature is good it's okay to be full of your self. But the to the point where you get annoying and people start hating you for that reason.
In the text so far Danny looks like a cool guy on the other side it's only been the beginning of the book. Just like in rebound David and Sean where enemies but who thought at the end they would come to be close friends. That can happen with Danny he can seem like a cool guy but later on he was will end up like a jerk.
I think that I am full of my self in gym. Meaning I am over confident, in my perspective I think that's not a bad thing because being over confident of your self will boost you learning habits. Because If you say oh I'm not going to pass it's likely that you wouldn't pass because your self confidence is not there, and if you say your going to pass your confidence is there so there fore your most likely to pass. So basically I want to be self confident of my self because I wanna get athlete of the year so I put my mined to it and start working for it.
I don't think I can specifically relate to just one character, but I think I have traits of most of the character. For example, I can be relaxed, and laid back (like Dan) but not to the point of straight up not caring. I can be smart, and creative (like Sarah) as most of her parts of the story are in the form of poetry. I also have a tough dad (Rob) who would throw a fit if i cheated on a test. If I were in the book though, I would have to be Katie. I would have my friends, but if any of them had given me the answers to a test, I honestly wouldn't use them. It is so easy to get caught, and then you are labeled as someone who is untrustworthy, and now every teacher gives you a second glance when you write tests. Not to mention you'd fail that course/class. I personally wouldn't snitch on a friend, I'd try not get involved. I've been accused by "friends" like Katie, so I can relate to her the most, but I can relate to many of the characters as well.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I can't decide which character I am 100% because throughout the story the more we get to know about the characters, there will be more chances of my opinion changing. However, I would probably be Rob because I know I'm the kind of person who wont have the guts to go home with a bad grade. Getting a R on a test or assignment won't result in disappointment, wanting to work harder next time or anything, that would result in a straight heart attack. I pretty much won't be able to take a bad grade AND the insult from my parents Also, since I participate in sports as well, there can be times where I might not be focusing that much on other studies and might not have the time to study and that's where I'd be most tempted to take a cheat. I'd probably think that not studying and chances of getting a bad grade are higher than getting caught on a cheat. However, at this part I might be somewhat Katie as well; backing out of taking a cheat last minute realizing its wrong. It's the confusion between knowing what's wrong but not being able afford the consequence either. Hopefully, as the book goes on I can get a better idea of which character I am.
ReplyDeleteI understand what your saying, as I'm also waiting for the end of the book so I could really justify who I can compare myself too. I don't really know but I would compare you to Rob and Dan, because you seem very serious (about certain things, like volleyball) but can also seem really relaxed about other things.
DeleteYup! That is somewhat right. My attitude depends from situation to situation such as knowing what kind of reaction to give.
DeleteYes, I would agree with you in this matter, you do remind me most of the character Rob. Why? Well, from what we have read so far in the book, Rob is describes as a scared character who isn't courageous enough to go with telling his dad about him cheating on the mid term exams and failing, his sentences are very choppy, and he actual straight to the point. Knowing you; for quite a while now, you can be force and competitive, when it comes down to studies, sports etc. And I know how most of our parents wouldn't appreciate hearing that their child has failed their mid terms and as you explained you wouldn't have the guts to go home with an R. I know that you try your best in class to get the best mark to satisfy your parents, which once again portrays the same character as Rob. For example, So you would remind me most of Rob just like you mentioned in your response.
Deletei really can not decide which character i would relate to the most. Reason being that we are to early in the book to actually know the full spectrum of each and every character. the author may be hiding something that may be revealed later on in the book. even if he did a good job establishing each character and there traits early on. also he does a good job with there perspective of things, or simply, just putting us in there head. but i will wait a few chapters then i will justify who i connect to the most
ReplyDeleteSince you don’t know which character you are most like, in my opinion, I’d say that your character most reminds me of Dan the Man. I’d say this because; he doesn’t worry about “small things” He doesn’t take tension over things like cheating on a test. He finds ways to make himself understand that is not a big deal. Yes, and sometimes you can be full of yourself, and you don’t see studying and tests as a big thing. That so you! When we have a math test or for example French test, you just go with the flow. Don’t take it offensively, because it’s not a bad thing. There are many people like this. You like to show things off. Like for example your drawings! Which is great because they look amazing? We haven’t gone that far in the book yet, but I’m assuming Dan is also a show off. Some factors of Dan may not describe you, but overall, if i were to describe you, you wouldn’t be like Katie because first of all she’s a “scaredy cat”. You’re not like Ruby because too girly, nothing like Rob because you don’t seem to be afraid of consequences, not like Jake because you don’t tell yourself a story which isn’t true and you’re not like Sarah because she didn’t snitch on Jake. I’m not sure what you would do in her situation though. But if I were to pick a character which reminds me of you the most, I would say Danny.
DeleteI'd agree with Reshmi on this. You're most probably Dan because you have that confident. You actually express your knowledge confidently unlike some people (sometimes myself as well) who know a lot but usually keep quiet and don't express the knowledge. For example, in Science you have knowledge on like every possible science related fact, and you aren't afraid to shout out the answer (which is good) and that lets other people know you have the confidence as well! However, from whatever we know about each character so far, Dan would be the best to describe you.
DeleteOut of all the characters I can relate to Dan the most because even though he cheated on the test, when him, rob and sarah were in the principal’s office and the principals had decided to suspended them, dan suddenly just told that why was he the one who was getting suspended when sarah is the one who had the answers to the test. If I was caught cheating on a test and I knew who was the one who had the answers I would tell who had the answers because I wouldn’t sit there and take the whole blame on me. Other reason is how he is during the situation he is calm and doesn’t take it as a big deal as long as he knows there is going to be an answer to handle the situation rather than panicking and creating more mess. This is the beginning of the book and the characters are developing and by the time we are done this book i might have a different perspective.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I would describe you most as being like Ruby. Well that’s just my opinion who you remind me most of. Don’t take me wrong though, it’s not a bad thing. Just from the way I talk to you and the way you respond, I wouldn’t say your personality isn’t like Dan the Mans. I’m not sure if you jump to conclusions and all, but I do know you assume things on your own, which isn’t wrong, that sort of describes me as well! Most people, just like Ruby, don’t know how to handle situations sometimes, and need a friends hand, and from what I see, your more like the type of person who gets your friends involved for some support is tough situations. Your vocabulary doesn’t consist the words of “like” and “totally”, but the mental image I have in my mind of Ruby, somewhat, most what would describe you. We don’t really get to know the characters as we haven’t read so far into the book, but assuming Rubys personality, she reminds me most of you.
DeleteI don't exactly think your like Dan the Man. Dan is one of the characters who has very high self esteem, a very high level of composure and patience. This is also one of the main reason why Dan is one of the more popular kids in school. Dan can easily cheat on a test without any fear. Honestly, based on what I have seen, you wouldn't be able to do something like that. You also don't have much self esteem momentum and patience, you wouldn't be able to easily cheat on a mid term exam without having any fear. And you absolutely do not have as much self esteem and patience has Dan. I mean I've seen trivial things that have agitated you..Dan would probably not even take a massive fight seriously. To be continued....
DeleteOut of all the characters I would define myself as Rob. Would identify myself with the personality of Rob, as I was to receive a bad grade, I’d chicken out to even go home to tell my parents. If I were in Robs shoes, I’d probably sitting in the office sweating and dread the thought of facing my parents when I go home! Even I would have taken the cheat sheet as Rob did. Anyone would! It’s like the easy way out! Imagine having your geography midterm exams, which you have to study tons for coming up in a few days. One day, you were just given the answer sheet. It just takes the burden off your shoulders. No more hours of late night studying. Just got to remember the order of the answers. What if you didn’t study what was required? What if you failed? This way, having the answer sheet would guarantee you a 100%! Sitting in the office, all Rob could think of was how he was going to face his dad. That’s exactly what I would fear of, knowing my dad expects a lot more from me.
ReplyDeleteYea, I’ve cheated a few times. Big deal...who hasn’t?? But I wouldn’t be able to imagine the look on my parents face if they ever found out! They would be terrified, as they say my education is my #1 priority all the way up until the end which is University. I’d end up getting a long lecture about all the possibilities of what can happen and how it’s going to affect my future (sometime over exaggerate). I’m guessing Rob has the same situation going on! Whenever I know I’ve done something wrong, I always fear my parents. The other characters didn’t seem to have the same thing going on. When Rob talks, he’s very choppy! He seems like the type of person who sticks straight to the point. And that is another factor which describes me. When I ask a question, I need an answer, not for things to be taken in circles.
I can relate to other characters, but I think Robs personality the most. I’m less like the other characters such as Ruby, Katie, Dan, Sarah, or Jake. Rubys character is more like girly girl, whose vocabulary which mainly consists of “like”, or “totally”. She wasn’t analytical, but acted on whims and fancies, from what I’m assuming. She jumped to conclusions, which I tend to do a lot, but if I were her, our personalities wouldn’t really match. I wouldn’t describe myself as Dan either, because “Dan the Man”, has a cool and chill character, which didn’t seem to dwell over petty things, and always looked at the bigger picture. I’m not like that. Also Katie didn’t even use the test answer sheet. Who wouldn’t?! Her character is too unnerved. Yes sometimes I am chilled to the bone in scary situations, but Robscharacter matches mine more than Katies.

ReplyDeleteThe character that I can mostly relate to is Katie because I would chicken out the whole cheating thing just as she had done. As everyone knows, I am a nice, good girl that wouldn’t think of cheating and if I would, I would think 100 times before cheating. I don’t know if I would take the cheat sheet but I sure wouldn’t use it when it comes to the time of the test. For some reason I think of cheating like a huge sin that god wouldn’t forgive me of and I have no idea why I think that maybe it’s true maybe it’s not. Maybe it’s because of my grandma since she always tells to never lie and all that. Also, I have that Rob side in me because my parents are strict! If I get a 50%-80% on a test, my dad will yell at me for getting a bad mark and if I cheated then I have no idea what will happen. Just like Rob I would be so scared at the office and I would never want the principal calling my dad, telling him that I cheated. That would just ruin his day. I know that the truth will one day come out itself but at that time I would be in a shock that I got caught cheating on a mid-term exam just like Rob is. All that I would think about is avoiding telling my parents that I cheated.
ReplyDeleteSo Katie and Rob are the characters that I can mostly relate to.
If I was to relate to a character from the book cheat then it would be Rob because to honest he is the only one that is scared of his parents that how will tell them and what would they say so he is the only one that actually regrets what he did and if I were to relate someone from this book then it would probably be Rob because that's what my reactions would be after doing that and my parents would be very angry at me and I think the same would happen to Rob.
ReplyDeleteThe character I can most relate to is Rob. I feel so scared of going home with bad grades, I can understand why Rob would want to cheat. I mean some parents don't care about bad grades but rob's parents probably take bad grades seriously( and so do mine). But after he faces his parents he probably would work harder so this thing won't happen again, I would do the same thing as well.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion I feel that I would identify myself as Rob. I consider myself as Rob because I would react in the same manner as he had. He was petrified of going home and having his dad confront him. He knew how foolish he was for accepting the cheat sheet, he felt regret, he’s full of despair, and that’s exactly how I would act if I was in his position. If my mother found out I was cheating on a test let’s just say I wouldn’t see the end of it. I am terrified of being caught cheating because one, cheating is bad enough, and two I get caught! I wouldn’t be able to bare the consequences. Almost all of my sentences are choppy and my handwriting is terrible and I would being shaking non-stop the situation he is. I would relate to him best because we both have parents who pressurize us in to getting good grades, with his dad breathing down his neck to get good grades and my mom doing the same, we relate mainly on that. Living in an Indian household means you get lectures of becoming a doctor and engineer starting at such a young age and you begin to get pressurized to get all 90’s so that you’d get a “free scholarship” to somewhere and I’m confident that Rob presumably got the same lecture.
ReplyDeleteThe character I think I am most like is Rob. Rob is the character that is afraid of the phone call being sent home to his parents. I know I would seem to be like a person that would be completely chill in this type of situation but the truth is I would be saying all the information I knew and I mean ALL of it. The worst feeling in the world for me is to have my mom leave work to come to my school and deal with my misbehavior.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't think of myself as being like Sarah or Dan because, first off, Sarah wouldn't speak. She wouldn't give out any information at all on how she got the answers to the test or what had even happened. If it were me on the other hand, I'd tell the truth on what had happened, I'd most likely sugar coat what happened on my part though, just so I wouldn't get into that much trouble. I don't see myself as being like Dan either because Dan has a reputation to protect, you can tell, people call him "Dan the man". Him protecting this reputation makes him chill and not stress over anything really and that's not me.. I could care less about my reputation when it comes to trouble and my mom finding out. I'd do anything, and I mean ANYTHING even if that means loosing some friends.
I wouldn't think of myself as being like Ruby or Katie because Ruby is just that one sassy prissy girl. Those kind of girls irritate me. They're annoying and just love to talk. Katie on the other hand, she had the chance to use the cheat sheet but didn't. If I had the chance to cheat on a test where your mark meant everything I would.
I definitely wouldn't think of myself as Jake. I understand Sarah is beautiful and Jake wanted some recognition from her but giving her the answers to a test wasn't the answer to recognition. If I liked someone, I'd rather do some pretty weird things to get him to notice me. I'd be loud, say funny things. Anything. I wouldn't do something I knew could get me in trouble as well. I especially wouldn't go and ask for my crush not to snitch on me. That isn't me at all.
