the amount of students that were absent are either 6,10 or 14 students that were absent. The reason why I think this is because there is at least 2 people absent and the probability of asking a baseball fan is 3/4 which is the same as 18/24,15/20,12/16 which means their are either 6,5 or 4 people absent which meets the first requirement and there is more than half the class present which also meets the other requirement which means that there are 3 possible answer. I need more information to solve for 1 possibility because right now i have 3 possibilities and the question is to vague to find the right one.
There is 30 kids in the classroom 21 students were baseball fans 9 students were non baseball fans. One baseball and one non baseball fan was absent so 20 baseball fans and 8 non baseball fans is the maximum More than half the class was present so 16 And the probability of asking a baseball fan was 3/4 so there could be different situations for eg 15/20 15 baseball fans 5 non baseball fans 12/16 12 baseball fans 4 non baseball fans 18/24. 18 baseball fans 6 non baseball fans
Yes there is enough information to determine how many students were absent that particular morning. There was some information to know 3 different solutions but not enough for one exact wander. The solutions were 4 kids were absent, 5 kids, or 6 kids were absent.
No because there is not enough information to find out EXACTLY how many students were absent. There is more than one possibility such as 12 fans 4 not fans, 15 fans 5 not fans, 18 fans and 6 not fans. So there are too many choices to determine exactly how many students were absent. It could be 6, 10, or 14 students absent. So that means there needs to be more information to get only 1 answer instead of 3.

ReplyDelete20 baseball fans and 8 non baseball fans is the maximum
More than half the class was present so 16
And the probability of asking a baseball fan was 3/4
so there could be different situations for eg
15/20 15 baseball fans 5 non baseball fans
12/16 12 baseball fans 4 non baseball fans
18/24. 18 baseball fans 6 non baseball fans

So there was not enough information to find out one exact answer because there where 3 different possible choices.

ReplyDelete3/4*3 =9/12
ReplyDelete9/12*2= 18/24
Therefore 6 students are absent
