Creativity

Creativity

Hey Team, Its been a long time since we blogged.  One of my favourite things to discuss and talk about is Creativity.  Every teacher craves for the creative solutions and the projects.  BUT do teachers itself stunt the creative process more then help it?

check out the TED video:

http://www.ted.com/talks/ken_robinson_says_schools_kill_creativity.html

What do you think about Ken Robinson? is his argument convincing?Do you agree or disagree?

How creative do you feel at school?

What inspires or distracts from your ability to be creative?

Answer these questions and engage in some debate with at least 2 other peers?

  1. I agree with what Ken Robinson said about how education distracts creativity. when your parent sends you to school they don't hope that you are a dancer the usually whant you to be some one with lots of money. I know this because this happened to my uncle, he was about to get assigned to a movie because of his acting skills but his mom said no. it is not easy being creative so this talk actually convinced me, because if i grow up and dicover my skill I am going to go for it and i won't regrate it.

    1. I like how you mentioned this skill is waiting to be discovered

    2. do you think that his parents do not want him to act because when they were at school they were trained to think that drama is bad or do you think that they dont want such a bad job with not much money

      Delete
    3. Yeah...most parents often don't hope for you to become a dancer in the future. Sometimes they don't even give you the choice to choose your own future career! I find that this happens with a lot of strict cultural parents. They tell us that becoming a dancer or an artist won't get you a lot of money. That’s what they often worry about. It's not fair and I always wonder if there is a way to change this for others. What do you think?

    4. @aqib(am 17)In india they never taught drama and my grandma never watched movies, but my uncle did so he was influenced.

      Delete
    5. @aynur I agree with you thats what happened to my parents. Since they knew how it feels they gave me a choice for any successful career.

      Delete
    6. Yeah I'm noticing how things are starting to change in this generation and it won't stay like that for long since most knows how it feels. I'm glad that you get to choose.

    7. In my opinion its really about where you want to go and what you want to do. Yes, everyones parents have that whole i want you to be a doctor etc.. but its really all up to you because its your decsion .The career you get will be according to your habits.Schools do focus more on other subjects rather then dance, singing... its not like they dont focus on them but its very less in our 10 day period how many times do we have music?

      Delete
    8. We should also agree that drama acting can earn a lot of money. They are movie stars! Then why don't they wan their child to be such a popular, famous, rich person?

      Delete
    9. Also, Aynur this generation is changing. That is a good thing but, also a bad thing. We should take in a lot of our parents advice since, they have been through similar experiences. Always make your parents happy and get their blessings(love, hope). Some disrespect their parent thinking they are better, in life they end up no where. Creativity should make you happy and others too. There should be a reasonable explanation why your parents don't want certain things as your future. Take that in importance as much as creativity. Limits.

    10. Aniqa: not many people are in such favor because becoming popular, famous and rich isn't easy sometimes they can go full on flop! Most people would want their kids to become a doctor because if they study really hard they will get in to the program where as becoming famous isn't that easy even if you are really good sometimes you wont be recognized and so pretty much your life is done right there for making tons of money. There are plenty of other options in the world but if you focus on just one like singing and you don't make it, well it might be a bit to late to apply for something else.

    11. Yes, education can distract us from creativity, there is a possibility, but we usually have creativity in most of our educational subjects. Our creativity is what frequently brings out the fun in education.

      Delete
    12. Neha I agree. I also think that parents want us to be something useful. Doctors can save lives! While engeneers fix diffrent items and sceintist discover new things. There is so many useful jobs in the world and if there were no one to take it, the world would be hard to take care of. I'm not trying to say anything bad, but actors aren't too much useful unless entertainment comes in. That is optional in human lives.

      Delete
    13. Yeah parents do want us to be what THEY want. Like for as long as I remember my mom told me to be a doctor but I don't want to be a doctor. But they try to keep our best choices in mind.

  2. At school I feel creative most often. At times when i have a paint brush in my hands i just paint a picture in my which i think is good enough for drawing. I also like writting in graffiti which i think is creative to me because I was always inspired by graffiti artists.

      Delete
    2. I also feel creative when i see a cool senery or things which is good enough to draw.

      Delete
    3. i think that you can be creative in anything you do but the arts gives you the most oppurtunities to be creative

      Delete
    4. I aghree qaqib because art is like a free world where you can express your feelings and imagination.

      Delete
    5. Only if art classes in school were to let your imagination go free! Instead, we have to draw in the point of view of what the teacher thinks look good. In one way, isn't that similar to being judged? One other way is when you doodle. That is fully a free world. Whatever puts you in the mood and catches your eye is inspiration...school is not too much of this unless, there is some good inspirational piece displayed.

      Delete
    6. The art period is the most common known place for creativity , but is it only that you can show creativity with a paint brush only in art? Do you think you can improve your language mark by using this certain "creativity"(painting)?

      Delete
    7. That's because it's one of the most common ways to express our feelings and creativity also such as; writing, reading, and dancing.

      Delete
    8. Inspiration in writing would be hard to find for yourself. Reading books and being inspired by authors is one way. What I have noticed this year, is the L.A we do. Mr. Cheney is actually helping me inspire in writing. I have so much ideas and I end up writing so fast to write it down before I forget. The question he asks can be very creatively answered.

  3. I think that Ken Robinson's argument is convincing because he talks about alot of intresting things. He told us about school and how if we don't get something just keep on trying and trying again until yo get it. I think that to get somthing you have to do jot notes, so you will have to write step one then step two and, keep on doing that unitl you get it. And he also talks about funny things, he talked about a student drawing god and the teacher said that no one knows how god looks like, the student said "you will in a minute". So yes i agree with Ken Robinson, because to me everything Mr. Robinson says is 100% true.

    1. He is a very convincing speaker! How creative do you feel at school?

    2. I agree with you at parts i couldn't stop laughing and on the other hand this guy also says stuff which can actually help our future.

      Delete
    3. What makes him a good speaker is the way he talks and the jokes and fun he makes out of things. That is why us, middle school students and the audience had stood up and clapped showing enjoyment. You know, in movies kids always have the 'funny' or the main part while the adults is like background characters. Maybe it shows how kids are colorful and creative while adults are less imaginative with maturity in a grey mood.

  4. Well he is a one of a million! He talk the truth about how teacher are traped in ther own mind....Well not all of them and he tell his own opinion about how wrong our education is to the world. He is creating a speech that is creative and fun while still being affective to people opinion and thought to the topic.I agree with 100%.Creative is still important like math, or any other subject in school.

    1. i think that being creative is make something your own which he did

    2. I think it was creative because he makes it funny and still takes the point across. And not many people do that in speeches.

      Delete
    3. He added lot's of part when he joke around like the "Tree and no one hears it" or the "multi tasking".I think he whants to make this topic more creative to the people lisening to it.

    4. you can't say he is one in a million because it's just a speech but i agree it was a creative speech.

    8. Yeah Ken found a way to make his points and say his facts but still making it funny.

  5. 1: Yes Ken Robinson's arguments are convincing and i do agree with him about what he said in the video because he tell us alot about people that how creative everyone is like he tell us about the girl that she was drawing something and her teacher asked her what are you drawing and she said GOD.. and her teacher said no one know's how god looks like and the girl said you will got to now it know it shows that how creative that girl is that she can make up a god without knowing how the god even looks like. Another thing he told us about his wife like she can do alot of thigs at a time like cook, talk to her kids, talk to someone on fone and other work that show's another creative. not everyone can do alot of work at a time it's only few who can and the one's who can do alot of things at a time are very creative.

    1. How can you apply this lesson about being creative?

      Delete
    2. i can apply this leason by knowing how creative i am and if i have to know how creative i am then i have to do something which tells me that i am creative like drawing something which no one can draw or no one have ever dreamed of( not god because i don't know how to draw god when i dodn't know how the god looks like) or do alot more things at the same time which can also show that how creative i am.

    3. do you believe to be successful in life you have to be creative?

      Delete
    4. Sana, I also heard that girls/women are more easier to likely multi-task than boys/men.
Navdeep, if we don't extend out thoughts nothing will come out of this world. When a person dies, what they want is to be remembered by everyone. They won't last forever but, there creation will. They want to be not forgotten. It;s kind of like the story of the person who made apple items. He is the creator of this worldly used creative instrument. Although he died, we all remember him due to his creations. Al the famous people, scientist, doctors, actors, and all who displayed their creativity is remembered, Michel Jackson is dead but, we all know him for his style of music. Without creativity, human life wouldn't get anywhere. Even the first nation people are not forgotten, due to things they did and made. (Aboriginal houses, food, farms, and much more). Creativity is not only needed in life to success but, humanity to continue.

  6. Q1: I agree with Ken Robinsons arguement because he said that when we are not prepared to make mistakes we can make something that no one has ever thought of before. To prove this, the way choclate cookies were made was that someone by ACCIDENT put chocolate chips in the cookie dough and after they were called choclate chip cookies and they were made from a mistake but resulted into a work of art. So mistakes can lead you into making something extroardinary Just like the way chocolate chip cookies were made.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Agreed, you have to be willing to make mistakes! Like in MATH cough cough...perhaps students also lack looking for creativity because they are focused on seeing a straight forward answer all the time.

      Delete
    2. I agree with mistakes being okay and how those mistakes can be very creative. Like this weekend, it was only me and my brother in the house. We made burgers and I wanted to make my burger creative and I wanted to take a chance. So I did and I thought " What did I do!" But I tasted it and it was awesome.

      Delete
    3. So mistakes in cooking can lead to delicious food, this is also shown in movies like ratitoulie who always wanted to cook but couldnt but in the end with the chefs help from making weird things he made a delicious work of art

      Delete
    4. I completely sgree wih you and Since you put the example of cookie dough was pretty smart. let me add up to that statement " if that person just threw the cookie dough away choclate chip cookies would never been invented.

      Delete
    5. I know and who knows when chocolate chip cookies would be invented with our the inccident they could have been invented 100 years from now

      Delete
    6. Don't forget french fries! How was french fries invented? Well, I'm not sure where it took place, I think it was either France or P.E.I. There was a woman who lived with her husband. Her husband had came home and told her that his friend was coming over for dinner as a guest. The wife didn't know what to make so with the food left she was trying to make something out of potato. She accidently overcooked her potato and fried them. She had gotten worried but, when she tasted them it tasted delicious. Her husband was surprised when she handed those out for dinner but, his friend LOVED THEM. French fry was created by a creative mistake.

      Delete
  7. 2:I feel alot more creative then i feel at home because in school we have to do alot of things at a time like in a lecture we have to listen to the teacher and also to get some notes about what the teacher is giving us a lecture. but at home we don't have to do alot more like we do at school.

    2. my creativity don't shine that much how much it shine in school. like if i have to help my siblings in their art work then i have to think of somethng creative or draw anything which is creative then it do shine. when i am bored i draw alot of things which actually do show that how creative i am and how creative i can be.

  8. I think Ken Robinson is a genius. He not only proved his point but he did it in such an entaertaining and hilarious way. So yes I think his arguement is convincing. He not only proved his point with personal connections but he was factual without really showing it. So since his argument was convincing, yes I agree with him. I agree because I do think schools kill creativity. They "tie us up" with rules and regluations. These rules are especially enforced when we are younger, when we are probably the most creative in our life. I think we can be more creative in school without rules. I atleast think there shouldn't be rules after grade 1 because like Mr. Cheney said we should already know how to behave and what's expected of us.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Sounds true in theory...how would a day in grade 8 look with rules? hmmm

    2. TALHA
IF YOU WANT MORE CREATIVITY IN SCHOOL , DOESNT THAT MEAN YOU NEED LESS RULES BECAUSE RULES AND REG. GOES AGAINST CREATIVITY AND FREEDOM.

SO IF YOU NEED LESS RULES, WOULD THE SCHOOL FUNCTION PROPERLY OR NOT PROPERLY?

      Delete
    3. THUS IS IT GOOD TO HAVE MORE CREATIVITY AT SCHOOL

      Delete
    4. Well in your class, it would be so boring. If there were lots of rules and you enforced them a lot, I'd think of it being a risk to get up form my chair. The reason is we're afraid of getting in trouble like we are of mistakes. Also with rules, more people may behave in other classes because the teaching stlye is the same. Also, Hosni would pay attention in class. But we don't want that. It's fun when you point out Hosni on his iPod.

      Delete
    5. YEAH ABEESHAN, I AGREE. BUT IT ALL COMES DOWN TO HOW MUCH THE TEACHER TRUSTS US. LIKE WHAT I WROTE, THERE SHOULDN'T BE ENFORCED RULES BECAUSE WE SHOULD ALREADY KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT,

P.S WHY ARE WE WRITING IN CAPS P.B?

      Delete
    6. so you are saying its high risk high reward?

      Delete
    7. Well i think it would not function properly but the education stats of each student would increase allot. Its like takeing a risk.

      Delete
    8. rules can also lead you to what you want because if you follow the directions you will get the grade you need but somtimes mistakes can get you beyond that

      Delete
    9. you can also be creative with rules right?

      Delete
    10. Nice Abeeshan quoting Mr. Cheney but yes I am saying high risk high reward. The risk is that no rules, we won't behave. But it allows us to be creative. It all depends on how we see and understand this oppurtunity

      Delete
    11. Rules have nothing to do with grades in my opinion. Grades depend on how hard you work, not how hard rules are enforced. Navdeep yes you can be creative with rules but like I said rules are like an invisible line that society makes us believe is terrible to cross.

      Delete
  9. I think that Ken Robison's arguement is convincing because at school if we do something wrong were told to do it over and over again until we get it right so basically were learning if its wrong it wrong we have to do it till it's right.
I think my creativity at school is alright not that good but not that bad. I say this because when were doing our journal topics I speak my mind but not to an extent where I know my mark might go down.
I think what inpires me is when im with my friends in a group project we come up with alot of crazy idea's and then we find a way to put it all together so then it'll make sense in the project so when im with my friends I can speak my mind freely because I know I wont get in trouble.

  10. Q.2)i feel really creative at school because in school we made 2 trailers one for terry fox and one for remembrance day and the tailers were really good to me they were really creative also in art trying to draw a realistic leaf so i can say in school i feel really creative.

    1. So you are similar to Hosni, you like working in groups as a means to being creative.

      Delete
    2. yes i think when your in a group you think and have alot more creative thoughts. because there are more than one person in the group.

      Delete
    3. Not everyone in a group really commits to giving ideas they mostly want to fool around and end up getting distracted, groups are't always the way...would you say sometimes you can be creative just by yourself?

      Delete
    4. Agreed! In my opinion, that's why certain people enjoy being in groups so much, with committed people who can do most of the work, but because of that they don't do it themselves and fall off track, ruining the whole group concept for others.

      Delete
    5. @neha yes i can but knowing myself i dnt have alot of creativity :$

      Delete
    6. There is the risk of slacking off in groups with your friends but that also becomes a creative opportunity. You'd be more willing to express your ideas when you're with your friends than with other classmates.

      Delete
  11. Ken Robinson argument is really convincing and i agree with it i think that we are not creative enough because we are usually told to do more math and language than arts and also we get deprived to do arts even if we want to.

To me i really do not care if we don't have arts because i am not that good at it however although i don't want to have it i think that we do not have enough art, drama and dance i feel like i am captivated to do one of these things a week.

i think that all the other subjects distracts me from doing arts because art is really easy to get into so once you do some art you will be very interested in art but no one is giving us "creative time" instead we do math language gym and the others.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So you are saying that art is the only "creative time" we have?

Also are you saying we cant be creative in other subjects like language or math? If we can, can I have an example?

      Delete
    2. Abeeshan great question, exactly like I was going to say...perhaps students are just as biased at teachers in valuing creativity!

      Delete
    3. i am not saying that like i said before you can be creative in anything you want to be it is just the arts give the most opportunities to be creative also we can be creative in math and language you just need to make it your own

      Delete
  12. 3: the thing that inspires me from my ability to be creative is that i can do alot of things at a time like if i am doing my homework i can also chat with my friends and eat my food and there are more things which i can do if i have time for those things too. Also if i have to write about something like a journal topic we do i just look for a little help and when i got to know about what the topic is about all the words and related things came into my mind at a time and then i copy them on my notebook. this is what makes me inspire about my creativity.

    1. So your a multitasker? That's good, I fall off track easily when aiming to multi task but don't acquire most of the needs to be done. So what your saying is; knowing that you won't fail at it, incourages you to use your "power" ;)

  13. Teachers always want to do something that they hope no other teacher would come up with, but if we look at their character trait assembly, where the whole grade shows what they could do, they always do the same thing. They do a little play, maybe even sing a song, but you never see something where you think "wow, i wish our class came up with that". If teachers want more creative students, they've got to give them a reason to be creative.

  14. What inspires me is: color, art, pain, athletic sports, stuff which is related to art, graffiti on subways,
I say this because when im feeling down these objects cheer me up and some how influence me to make art.

  15. Q2: I feel realy creative at school because I think so far what I have done for a few subjects was real creative and there werent any rules that stoped me from making a masterpeice. So I feel like I am being creative.

And if i don't get it, i go home and look up the question on the internet and write which steps i have to do first and last. I wouldn't say that my grades are good and i wouldn't say that my grades are bad, because i care about my grades, but if i get a bad mark on my report card, atleast i tried my best. So yes i feel like i am pretty good in my work and i try hard in every subejct that i have.

  18. I have to agree with him because I think that everyone is talented at something. If you're not good at Math, or English or any other subjects then that doesn't mean you're stupid. There is at least one thing we're good at. It's just that most of the time we are so being forced into learning the things that we can't manage to understand that we never discover this talent of ours. So I think we need to exercise both parts of the brain. The creative side and the logical side equally. So that we break into certain parts we may not have known existed, and discover certain abilities. Because one side may work 10 times better than the other and what most schools focus on is the logical thinking. Both should be looked upon equally. It should be treated equally as well by others. Because most think that being good at Math is what you need. It's always listed number one on top of every other lesson. Some perspectives must change on that.

  19. I like the guy. He's funny but still gets the point across.
I do think his argument was convincing because of his story about the girl sketching god (who does that remind you of?)and the story about that Gillian lady.
I also agree with his arguments because humans are basically the apex predators and with the apexes gone, the other animals would flourish.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. how would the other animals flourish? Is the predatorial nature of human beings what keeps us at the t top?

      Delete
    2. Yes and it's our intelligence as well. The other animals don't speak our language/understand us so we basically dominate them, which has given us the ability to make all of the tools we have today. What I think about that though is that we are just to ignorant to even try to understand what the animals are saying. There was this guy at the E.S.A. open house who made a 6-foot axe handle and had a whole story intertwined around it about what distinguished us (intelligence-wise) from animals. A monkey could make the handle, but a human could make the blade as well. That was our distinguishing trait.

      Delete
    3. If we left most of our structures would eventually give in to the elements and break down creating perfect places for some animals to make dens or shelter or even store food. Those that didn't would still eventually become accessible to other animals who try to get through and make great places for shelter and dens.

  20. I believe that Ken Robinsons speech and arguement on how the education system is killing students creativity is VERY convincing. I agree on this topic very much. The one thing that convinced me and I agree with is that we are ranking our subjects. Every where in the world we have math and language taken more seriously than dance and music and art. The question is why?

School is basically a place to find your talent and achieve on it, why are we putting down the people who love art and so? This is going against the educations belive. They want all the students to excel but not the people who are interested in the arts.

In a scale of 1-10, my creativity in school is like a 6. We should have an equal amount of time for all the subject not one set of double periods of art in the 10 day cycle. Thats the main reason why my creativity feels somewhat low. To be honest I feel so free at home and trapped in school.

Also in my opinion I think that the education sysstem should have less group activities because I belive that group work is not prosuctive. The greatest thinkers like Steve Jobs didnt sit in a group to have apple. He was more independant. Because group work goes against creative people.

What distracts me would be group work and what inspires me would be the success of other students and that would most he time push me to be better.

Many parents want their children to become engineers or doctors but actually thier child is into being a photographer or a dancer. their parents are blinded by their childs future that they can't see or notice their talents or passion.

  23. Creativity is not my strong suit. I lean more to mathematics. But when I feel creative at school, is when there is nothing expected of us. In other words, no rules. Rules become this invisable line that when we cross it, we get in trouble for it. Enforcing rules so much is like a basketball player not taking any shots, it's not right. Sure rules help keep us balanced but we should know when to do what. Sure every once in a while we do something like talk during an assignment, but it's nothing major. Also how creative I feel depends on my class and my teacher. If my teacher is like Mr. Cheney, then I feel very creative especially since he doesn't enforce rules, push homework and he lets us use our devices. SO with a teacher like Mr. Cheny and a class with a lot of my friends, (like this year) I feel very free and creative.

It's not only school that kills student's creativity, even the closest people to us don't have faith for our creativity. "Don't pull down the shades when an oppurtunity knocks on your window". Sometimes parents think that just because it's a big risk, you shouldn't fulfill what YOU want; "High risks, High reward", but not all parents and teachers are like that; since this video was from 2006, I think that parents and teachers may have improved their parenting and teaching because this may have been a bigger issue then than now, although I'm not saying it's still not an issue.

  25. I think Ken Robinson is really smart how he actually thinks about that, how school ruins kids creativity, I would never be able to find that out, or explain it.

His argument is convincing, Gillian Lynn didnt have to be good at math or language she got famous of her dancing, thats why school makes you so concerned of math and language and the other subjects are like nothing it ruins your creativity, Im not saying math and laguage is not important but school just makes it too much, if someone is born with a art talent, school just ruins it. I agree with Ken 100%.

I dont feel that creative at school because if you do something wrong its a mistake and we get to scared of mistakes so you cant be creative, and if you try to be creative its a risk because it can be a mistake, so suddenly school revolves around mistakes.

I get distracted from being creative because I get too scared if i get a mistake my mark will go down.

  29. Q3: The thing that inspires me to be creative is what the people from past years have doen at this school. They have made realy creative thing like a few years ago some one from grade 8 made a new logo for our school, and because of that there was a assembly to honour the creativeness from that student.Thats what inspires me.
The thing that distracts me from making creative things is the environment around me because if people are in my way they are an obstacle for me to pass to be creative like out side at lunch when i play basketball if a grade 7 kid runs in my way when i am making a layup, My layup wouldnt be as creative as it should be becasue there was an unexpected obstacle.

  30. I think that my friends and other people distracts me in class, and in other subjects. The reason why i say this, is because whenever i'm focused in my work, i take like a 1 minute break, and whenever i look at my friends they make me laugh and then i end up not being focused on my work and not finishing my work. So yes i think that i get distracted from my friends, and when they distract you, while your doing tyour work, you forget all about your work , so this is what distracts me in class.

  31. Creativity is one of the most essential aspects in a person's life. A person won’t live life unless they have some creativity. In education we have no freedom, we have strict guidelines that we need to follow, its either that way or no way. We get sent to school to learn about different things, and explore as we do in our class with technology but doing it in one class isn’t enough. Imagination is a big part of this topic; no imagination means no creativity which means no changes. It’s nice to add in a bit of your own touch or "going big or going home”. But it’s even the student’s responsibility to have an imagination to go big but teachers never give the chance too. Creativity can be added into everything but that has been restricted because of the school board, education is very important in today's society because without education there are only a few opportunities available for a person to earn a living, but people lose interest easily because we learn the same thing every single year 10 years of my life and i have been taught using textbooks and paper, i have lost interest because 10 years of my life is just enough its getting so called "boring"

  36. I agree with what Ken Robinson said. We spend most of our school day working on math, language, science, French, and we hardly spend any time on the arts. We have a 10 day cycle, and on only 1 or those days so we have visual arts. Teachers want us to be as creative as we could be, but the subjects that need most creativity, are always forgotten about. Ken had said "Creativity now is as important in education as literacy and we should treat it with the same status." and he's right. If we want our future to be totally different then it is now, we need people with ideas, people who could change the way the world is right now, and without creativity, that'll never happen.

    5. I think creativity is seperate from Language and math beacuse there isn't really a creative way we could anwser questions. Math and Language are subjects where students learn to anwser the question, and have proof. There isn't any way to add creativity into finding the anwser of 2+2.

  38. First of all that was like the best lecture I have ever heard. I totally agree with Ken Robinson, he explained about how creativity is important in education and litreacy. He shared hi personal experiences and storys about others lives, which obviously makes everything more interesting. I agree with creativity being needed in education. I find the teachers making up all the ideas and we use them, well thats only found in kindergarten and in the junior classes. They don't let children create ideas.

I guess so, I mean I think I'm really creative in my L.A. notebook, is that enough? Well obviously no, being creative means to have all these cool and sometimes crazy ideas and they're put into everything you do. I know that I have a mind full of ideas, but whos there to listen to it? No one. And this obviously leads to self esteem, yeah I'm not going there.

Like I said before, this leads to self esteem, I'm too scared to share my ideas with people (I'm working on my self esteem). What inspires me, hmmmmm lets see: my everyday life? I go through a lot of things and as a 13 year old, I'm very curious and thank God theres the internet, cause thats where I get my ideas from (and my everyday life).

All in all, I still think that Ken Robinson is right, School does kill creativity.

  48. I absolutely agree with Ken Robinson. He is looking at this from the student's point of view. It's also interesting the way that he demonstration creativity within himself. This was supposedly to be a speech. I only realized this until the end. He added so much creativity to transform this speech into what all the people would enjoy. Some characteristic of this is shown by the way he jokes around engaging people and making them laugh. I have to admit that I actually enjoyed his saying on his opinion. His arguments are the way he expresses his opinion into something that made everyone stand and clap. The statement that convinced me the most was when he said the short story about the young girl drawing and picturing god. In other words he is saying, that instead of doing what other do, we CREATE NEW things. Starting your own creativity, and the word CREATE comes from it. Something I would like to relate to this is the way one of our most famous scientist Albert Einstein had done very poorly in school. As you can see, he had discovered new things in his own creative thinking. School was just pushing his creativity out of the way.

    1. Truly, I don't feel too creative at school. The only possible moment I feel creative is when I explore through new things in new subjects. When I try new things, I find new talents and skills that were waiting to be discovered. As an example this would be gym for me. I am waiting to find a sport that I am good at. People have different sections of creativity but, in school not all subjects allow this. In art class, we are to draw what the teacher asks instead of what we want. Same goes for other subjects. What I end up focusing on is my skills and trying to improve them in intellectualism instead of finding new talents and giving in real interest.

    2. When I see something amazing, and I would like to do it, I try it. That is how I get inspired. Just one look and if it catches my eye I would out to try for it. Other times, creativity just works its way up my head. It usually depends on the mood I'm in. Doodles are one of the most creativity I can produce quite a few times in a day. In the end, even I don't know what I drew. It all starts working when you let yourself free and let your hands or mind work on it, especially with focus. What distracts me from creativity is when someone tells me to do something instead of letting myself go free.

      Delete
  49. What inspires me into my creativity is on the teachers enthusiasm of when they're teaching. If the teachers really try and help us learn and understand, I get engaged into the lesson too. Especially if it's a subject I enjoy learning the most. The subjects I rejoice in the most unfortunately aren't everlastingly what I do foremost in. My inspiration doesn't only attain from my favourite subjects though. Sometimes I get inspired by positive thinking, and every now and then I don't get inspired at all.

  50. In my opinion its the teacher that may distract our creativity because we only do certain things according to the teacher.Like today the teacher says we will do a debate we dont have that freedom to say no, our voice and opinion dont really matter.Sometimes students give away their own creativity and example would be trailers we had the freedom to go off and do whatever we wanted it was all up to us with the scences but people get distraced with friends and fooling around that they left the creativity and went off doing other things

  53. I feel creative depending on what the question or task is. If it's simple and quick, I'd just finish what's asked and I'd be done. If it's a project/presentation then i'd go all out on it. Planning, ideas, outcomes and such, until I'm satisfied with the outcome. I like trying things that no one else would come up with. And that's when i start feeling creative.

    ReplyDelete
  54. What distracts me from being creative is laziness, no doubt. If it's a subject that i'm not that into or i'm just tired, I just want to finish the question and get over it. For example, first period in the morning, I'm not bursting with ideas to write, i just want to get things done.
What inspires me to be creative is competition, and wanting to do something unique. If i see people in my class coming up with these cool ideas, i always want to do my best and be better. I want people to look at my projects and think "wow, why didn't i come up with that?" I also really enjoy doing a little more than expected when possible. Taking risks and seeing how it comes out in the end.
