Sean and David had an intense altercation with two high school students. The end result was Sean throwing the first punch in the jaw of the boy who called him a coward and David a cripple.

3.The high school boys were startled because someone as small as David was calling them a "punk". Also it's because of their bias of the wheelchair they thought that one like that wouldn't say that at all to them.

@Heta I mean as in he was too reckless, that doesn't mean he can't say anything. But, screaming at them even after the fact the other high schooler held him back. It doesn't matter if he got mad at them, it's just the extreme of the attitude he gave them.

DeleteI'd say Sean and David have an edge strategically. Sean is a pretty big guy so that helps size up the 2 guys. Also he got the first punch which may be vital because it was a surprise. Then there's David the "poor wheel chair" kid. Again our bias or the teenagers bias led them to believe that this kid in a wheel chair can't hurt them nor can they hurt him. But David can fight and again it's a surprise.

When the victom is scared there are more chances for te suspect to continue what he had been doing, until the suspect reaches his/her satisfaction.

ReplyDeleteI don't think his reaction was very "smart." I say this because right out of nowhere, he starts using his big mouth and not knowing or caring what THEIR reaction might be. Scott knew that these students were bigger then him and David. I understand that at first anyone might be confused and questions must be racing through his mind like what is HE talking about? Though later on, they'll soon come back to their senses and realize what he/she is talking about. In this situation, they were bigger that Scott and David and they were confident that they could knock Scott's and David's lights out.

He bursted out with anger at the sight of 2 PUNKS mocking him when he's in a serious condition. We already know that he gets angry for things that involve his wheel chair, i.e Sean pushing it, etc. So when he saw the 2 guys all his anger came out. So I'd say he reacted reasonable but a little overboard because he has the right to yell at some guys making fun of him and his condition but when he continuously yelled at them he forced them to respond leading to the fight.

This is related to the talk we had about the first chapter and our bias and how we are the characters in the book. They were in shock that a "poor kid in a wheel chair" was yelling at them. Maybe their bias kept them quiet at first but they talked. The one guy was ready to fight them but the other guy told him to stop saying that "he;s in a wheel chair" indicating his bias to David.

ReplyDelete1.In my opinion I can't really decided on either one, because David said the high school kids began to act as if they were in a wheel chair just like David was, so it was basically making fun of David which is very cruel because this matter that has happened, something that cannot be replaced its basically giving up a part of life for a stupid accident that had happened. But then again David only saw them doing actions he didn't hear any specific words, it doesn't specifically/necessarily mean if someone is acting something out that means they are making fun of you it could be they are just showing the other person on how it works, maybe they are doing a project on how wheel chair works or just in general are showing a wheel chair. David was the one that had stated a comment first instead of asking or explaining he just suddenly began to freak out and explode on the high schoolers. If he hadn't done that then no argument would have started and the day would move on the way it was .So I guess we could say he was kind of the one that had started the conflict between the people because he was the one to say something first he could have let it go and move on but he decided to burst out of anger. So the argument fight David had started in the beginning because he was the one to say something first but conflict starters was the high schoolers if they hadn’t stopped and began to point at his wheel chair and act and make fun then they wouldn’t have gotten into such trouble.

In my opinion David did have a right to snap at the boys and it’s most likely for everyone to do that. It’s as if someone is making fun of you, you won’t just stand there and listen you would get mad and just burst and it does seem that David may have a bit of an anger issue which just adds on to reactions. He will react to what he sees at that moment. No one will really take the time to figure out what they actually meant. The boys did make it a bit too obvious that they were talking about David and I guess no one including David likes to get talked about. We aren’t 100% sure that if they were making fun of David so maybe the reaction wasn’t suitable because wonder if they really weren’t making fun ? And they got into fight of something that they didn’t do, how is that reasonable? So no right now im on a teeter totter of yes and no.

They think he’s in a wheel chair so he is calm and even if he does come at us what can he do? You don’t really expect someone in a wheel chair to act like that; you mostly think they are the nice kind sweet people well I guess that’s just a stereotype. People think he’s in a wheel chair it’s not like he can get up and punch me. 1. I would say that David started this fight or I shall say argument. I believe that David didn't see those boys intimidate him. In Sean"s perspective those boys were so confused. This means they probably didn't do what David thought they did. However, David kept ranting on about how stupid they were so the fight gradually become bigger. On the other hand, David was speaking loudly, and was angry and has a lot of experience in the wheel chair so he seemed so sure when he was speaking to the boys, so I wasn't that sure!

1. It's the two highschool boys who had started this fight. If they didn't make fun of David this fight would have never happened. David was just defending himself. No one likes being made fun of. I know that if I was in David's shoes I would have done the same thing.

Plus all boys do the same thing, they see someone making fun of them and so they start a fight just to defend themselves, though fighting isn't a good way to solve a problem, it's what they all do.
3. I think the highschool boys didn't notice that David was watching them making fun of him, but when he started to shout, it startled them. Also the tone of his voice must of scared them cause he was talking to them from across the street.
@Geetangali what if the highschoolers were just playing around and David took it wrong.

Delete1. I think that the two high schoolers started the fight because firstly they were the one's who made fun of David and unfortunalty for them David takes these things seriously . Also after they didn't even apolgize they just kept denying and picking for a fight and eventually they got one.

Delete1&2. What David saw was the two boys making fun of him. They were making motions to sign the way David was on a wheelchair. Using their hands they acted like they were stressing their own wheel chair. When David saw this, he had gotten offended and told them to stop making fun of him. According to this, David was the first one to speak up for himself.It's hard t tell who started the fight. David was the first one to speak although the boys were bothering them first. If you think about it, the boys weren't asking for a fight, they just wanted to go along making fun of him. Not only this, but David started insulting, calling them stupid. He was getting the fire on the high schoolers. This time it sounds like "David" was asking for a fight. Also, later on even Sean asks for a fight planting the first move.
ReplyDeleteDavid saw those highschool stusents making fun of him, moving their arms as if they were in a wheel chair. I think that for someone like David, we wouldn't be suprised by the way he acted. His actions weren't the best actions for this type of situation becausse, I wouldn't want to be picking up fights like that off the street with starangers and besides the highshools boys were asking for it.

Delete1. I think that David started it because he knew that they were two high school boys and those boys didn't directly do what they did towards David to start something. David saw what they were doing and shouted at them knowing he was about to start something. They didn't go up to him saying or doing what they did.
ReplyDelete2. He saw those boys imitating him in a rude way. If it were me I would be so mad. I would react the same way too. Because that’s not nice at all, they don't even know what it feels like and they're making fun of him and that’s just not fair. David shouted at them because he cached that and thought they should get a taste of their own medicine. Did he react properly? I think that’s just how anyone would react. I would be hurt, and very angry. So it only makes sense that David reacted that way.
3. They were startled because they got caught, and didn't know that David would ever catch them doing something stupid like that. They were startled, because what they had done was wrong. So wrong. They probably thought that if David wasn't looking, he wouldn't be hurt and nothing would happen to them. But they were startled, because he cached him. They didn't know what to think or do because it was such a rude thing a person could do.
1) Its the two high school kids who started it by putting there hands in the motion of rolling in the wheelchair, but David couldve just let it go and the fight wouldnt have happened.

David did react properly (if the boys did tease him) because it was not right to make fun of David and this maybe happens to David EVERYDAY so of course David should talk back to them
the boys were startled when they saw David talking back because like i said before maybe the boys didn't even do anything to offend David

I dont think David did the proper thing because he should have just ignored them so there would've been no fight . If he had just ignored them then maybe none of what happened might have happened and also Sean wouldn't have gotten the urge to fight again .

And I don't think that they thought David would actually want to fight him. I think that not many of us would do what David had done. And Sean was easily dragged into it because well, he was with David and beacause their friends even though he didn't say anything.

Delete3. The high school boys were startled when David had his blast off screaming back at them. This is because, of a few reasons. Firstly, obviously the boys are highschoolers, in other words they are the big kids and David along with Sean would be puny pests that they can beat up any time. They expect the kids to run off when they give a stare.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, David is in a well chair, so in human bias, we expect him to be soft, sad, and dumb. When David started screaming, it would have been to them as if " You can talk!?". In the book David has once said about how he wasn't able to use his legs but, he can "TALK AND UNDERSTAND". They were surprised due to the courage David had to talk back despite the fact that no other person would dare to do that.
2. well i think david saw a couple of high schoolers making fun of david but they probley didnt mean to cause all of this but my mind says why would the high schoolers make fun of david and no i am not being bais right now because if i were the high schoolers i wouldent get a laugh out of it i mean yea ive made fun of people behind there back but i dont understand what the high schoolers were laughing about it just dosent make sence to me.
