ReplyDeleteReshmi's perfectly constructed rebound poem and original photo
Katherin's duo poems of imagination and meaning of life were thought provoking and poignant
1) My favourite poem was "Divergent" by Furqan I think the topic she chose was very creative I love it when people talk about a new world or one that isn't like ours where "Independance can kill you" , "Every move you make is being watched" , "No one is safe". I just love the idea of it. Also I think the image she used for her background was very powerful.
ReplyDelete2) My favourite poem to write was "Darkness" because that was something I could relate to It was something that didn't need a rough copy and a good copy it was something that came from me no criteria no nothing If you look at my poems My best poem was "Darkness" and my "David" peom becasue it was something that I could either relate to or something that happened to a personal friend of mine So It was really easy to write and I enjoyed it.
3) I now have a greater appreciation for poetty I think its because in every other grade the rule "Poetry needs to ryme" rule was always there even in the teacher said "Poetry doesn't need to ryme" the rule was always enforced in a way So this year when it REALLY didn't matter I think it let some students be more free with their work and that made it 10x better, but after reading everyone elses poems I found it really inspiring that a class of about 25 students could do with a great leader, so that would be why I now actually enjoy poetry.

1) My favourite poem of the soirée ‘Sky’ was written by Manjot C.. I find this my favourite because she wrote about something I am fascinated about. In the summer, I love to look at the sunset because the colors are really nice, like the pink and the orange. It just amazes me that a bright sun could bring so many amazing colors when it’s just about to set. It was not only Manjot’s poem that stood out to me the most but her pictures too. They showed the true beauty of a sunset and also captured the beautiful colors! Coming back to her poem, she described the sky perfectly like how in a year, not every day is sunny and bright but there are also days where it’s cloudy and rainy. You wouldn’t think of a sky as anything important but when I look at it for a while, a question comes into my mind, is the sky as close to us as it seems? Well of course no, it’s really far but I’m just saying, that question does come across my mind. So my favourite poem was Manjot C.’s ‘Sky’ poem not only because I personally love the beauty of it but also because of the way she described it and put it into the poem!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Manjot!! :)
1)There were many amazing poems it was truly thought provoking. To me there is no favourite poem you can't judge a poem or I can't at the least. But there have been some out standing ones for example COOKIES! Yes Marshall's cookie poem, short but it has a nice "taste" to it. It was a fun joyful poem that gave a acute sense of imagination. Also there was Reshmis Harry potter spoken word being a fan of the series itself I loved it. It followed the story line giving most of the major events that most Harry potter fans would remember. It had a nice flow going with it. she also had sneaked some references into it which gave it that whole other perspective. She had also mad a video which has up to par with her poetry.
ReplyDeleteThen furans divergent poem was great actually reading the book helped a lot but the title of the poem also explains a lot about the poem. All her verses had to do with divergent or being divergent. Basically your different and they are scared of you being different is bad in their eyes. And I feel she did a great job representing that with her poem. Tommy's poem on darkness was pretty slick. After all that talk about the darkness you end up being it. It's also a drastic change from most people and their joyful poems.
Manpreets poem was pretty nice I liked her photos it was different for the rest presentation wise. She had printed a picture and wrote over it with pen. It good to see some "divergence" between poetry. Also Manpreets poems were nice I had liked her rebound. Talking about rebound ktherines poem was extremely well made. It had a nice flow. It was pretty deep compared to some. It was truly a hard hitting poem it had left its mark on the crowd for sure you could see it.
Then there's jamins poem it was awesome it's just as Cheney had said, good over great words. But it had feeling or that's I personally had felt. It's has a fluctuation between sad and happy, dark and light. But one of my favourites for sure isms very own Mario kart. What could I say I love Mario kart sure it's bias but it's my favourite. It has a good back ground and the font I found works great with it. It was fun joyful and everyone who came to my booth recognized it within seconds of eye contact with it.
the person who wrote my favorite poem would have to be Tommy G. i really liked the darkness one. I think that it was a really meaningful poem and it was deep with a lot of meaning with it. I believe that it was a representation about people who struggles with there inner demons. i would understand really well. no matter how much you run or try to get away, when you wake up they're still there. i think that the window symbolizes hope, that it is there, but its not with you. in the poem, it says the light comes through the window but it technically is not there with you, it's on the outside. the line that was the most powerful to me was the last line, "i was the darkness." i believe this is when the person has come to the realization that they were the demon, that he/she was fighting themselves, not something else, it was you. when people fight there inner demons, they are sometimes to blind to the reality that it was them the whole time. this poem is so powerful when the right person reads it. someone who has struggled with themselves, someone who still has to fight there inner demons.
ReplyDeletei know that it was very meaningful and powerful to me. "i was calm" is another great and powerful line, it may be three words but it means a lot. People always seek out help when they think they are going crazy or when they are struggling with anything really, but this person says that they are calm, i give them props.
-_- your friend, me
I think that Reshmi poem what my favourite. The reason why it was my favourite was because she wrote hers on Harry Potter and Harry Potter is one of my favourite movie to watch. Marshall's was good it was on cookies but if I had to pick between Marshall's and Reshmi's I would pick Reshmi. The way she rhymed ever sentence was a good job and the fact that she did the voice over for her presentation that was a creative way to display her poem. The first live performance was not as good the the couple last ones, I guess because she was nervous and that she didn't know how it would go. But as the next live performance she did she got more passionate and more self motivation it was good. Gradually she spoke strong with no panic she was calm and ready, plus the fact that she wanted to keep on presenting her poem shows that she's confident. The only thing that I will advices it to put or use less pauses. It has a good flow and then when she stops it kind oh kills it. Like if she says 4 sentences and then take a pause. I don't mean 4 sentences straight no no no. U say a sentence then take a quick pause not a pause where u break the flow a quick break but @ the same time it's enough to catch ur breath
ReplyDeleteI think that my favourite type of poem to write was free style. The reason why free style was because you can be creative and do want you want unlike the the Rebound and the Canadian history one your limits are cut because that poem has to be about Rebound or the Canadian History. But you got to make up poem in any type of poem. So it was pretty hard to make a rhyming poem about Rebound epically. The history poem was allot easier bc if u talk about his life style you can get ur information from the history project we did and rhyme of of that, unlike rebound u have to ponder on what going to say, because it's a book and u have to think really hard on what ur going to write. For some some the the poems it didn't rhyme but it mad sense but for me In my opinion I think that rhyming poems sound better and in some cases sometimes easier to write. But again going back on the free style u don't have any restrictions you can write it on whatever u want it to be about. For example "Marshall" he wrote his poem about cookies something sweet, yummy, soft crunchy, that's a neat Poem to do and Reshmi's poem was about Harry Potter a wizard who lost his mom and dad and gets adopted by a in my perspective a cruel family. Who would think about writing Poem on wizards. You c where I'm going? It's creativity you can do whatever u want and that's the sick part about poetry.
To be honest in don't think that I appreciate poetry after we did the Soirée. I don't think that I will be needed poetry in my life but even if I do I know how it is like from the experience of the Soirée. The reason why I don't appreciate poetry is I don't think the right word to use Is appreciate it more like value. Bc appreciate is like all this work that was put into the soirée was point less so I think that the write word to use is value. " Do u value poetry after we did the Soirée. But I do in the sense where u know how to and what to do when in comes to poetry. We know and we understand how to write poems, we know how to present our poems so it's a really neat thing or value but for me I don't think that I value poetry. " aka not to be harsh :)"
2)My favourite poem to write was of course the one about the songs. Music is something that I love to listen to and not only me but everyone loves it (Right?)! The first poem about music that I thought about writing wasn’t my favourite, but then I remembered about a song I heard in the summer and knew that I would love my poem if I wrote about it. I never thought that writing a poem would be really easy when you know exactly what to write about but I did and I was easier than I expected. I wanted to take an original picture but it wasn’t possible because it wasn’t summer, it was still winter and snowy so I just took a picture from the internet. Music for life! This was my favourite poem since it was about a topic I really love!!
ReplyDeleteit was easier than I expected.*
DeleteI think that my favourite poem was actually the cookie one by Marshall since it was very creative and it seemed very witty and more fun to read or listen to since the other poems are so serious. Honestly the cookie poem brought up all the senses...such as the hearing: Crunching, Taste: Delicious, Creamy and you could even feel the cookie in your hand. This poem seemed to stand out from all the rest because it was much more creative than all the rest. This poem may have less rhymes in the poems although the context of this poem is actually very good! Along with his presentation...it really made you feel like eating those cookies. Most poems have a serious purpose or reason on why it was written...this poem seemed to be have written on his personal choices and likes. The way the cookie poem was displayed was also very good...it was very colourful and matched the spirit of the poem. The colours helped give out more joyful/ happy emotions mainly because instead of using darker colours he used bright colours and I think that is a very important factor of making a poem that has a purpose of expressing happiness!
ReplyDeleteIf you expand on the question we can also talk about how this poem was also very good for presenting to the Lower grades because they don't usually enjoy or find serious poems as enjoyable or interesting as funny or silly poems. The cookie poem was a poem which would be enjoyed by younger grades and the older grades wouldn't have mind listening to the cookie poem. Other poems may have been interesting to the teachers but the younger students may not have enjoyed listening to poems about history and serious matters....they would of course prefer the funny poems.
Honestly I think that my favourite poem to write was the history poem mainly because you have certain topics to look forward to talking about...for example; The transcontinental railways, John A McDonald, Indian Act etc. Although for the free poem I found that it was actually much harder to do because you weren't limited to a certain topic and there was so many things you could write about....I actually had a hard time thinking about what to write....I made multiple copies but still didn't seem to like any my copies. Finally I got something I was fine with but I still thing I didn't like it much. The rebound poem was easier then the free poem although I found the rebound poem the hardest and I really didn't like the outcome....I mean there were many many rhymes I had found and they were actually pretty good...but the topic was limited too much and I found it really hard to take and find a good part of the book that would work in a poem and actually seem like a poem and not a summary. In the end I figured something out but eventually many others had the same part of the book in their poems and I think that this takes away its originality.
I think that in overall I liked the John A McDonald poem the most because of he context and how the rhymes seemed to properly work with the poem. The Poem also helped people figure out and understand who Sir John A McDonald is in general just by listening/reading this poem.
DeleteI think that my appreciation of poetry actually changed because I learnt more about the elements of poetry; for many years we have just been making poetry with the same old vocabulary and the same types of poems ever year. Usually we make An acrostic and a free verse poem...but this year we explored many different types of poetry such as ballad, Cinquan, tanka etc. This makes our poetry seem more interesting and not so boring and since many students are writing with different types of poems it makes each poem more original and creative in its own way. Also this year we have been motivated to use better Vocabulary and this enhances your poems by a lot! I mean it makes you work seem more professional and not comparable to the work of a grade 4 or 5. In the previous years students were all given the same topics although this year for a change we have been able to be more original and create poems more freely. "Poetry is language at its most, distilled and powerful" To be continued

ReplyDeleteI think my favourite poem which was written by somebody else was the poem that Natisha had written called “It’s Scary”. I didn’t really get the chance to walk around in class to read everybody’s poems, but during the poetry soiree when everyone was walking around reading the poems, I joined along reading everybody’s poem too. Walking by the display boards, Natisha’s board caught my attention because it was larger than the others and through the center; there was really neat photography with text that stood out. She had taken 3 different pictures and had different text on all different pieces, but all the writing was connected and put together into one poem. Her poem was really deep and really had me thinking of the ways which I can myself relate to it! She included many of life’s aspects into her poem of which everybody experiences or will go through, and to be honest, at the end of reading her poem, it really is scary to accept the different angles and slants of life. It was a really earnest poem which kept me engaged even though it was really long as it was deep-rooted. It is scary!
There are many other poems which really stood out to me and I was wandering the library and reading the poems, and even during the live performances. Another really sterling poem which I had seen was Marshalls “Cookies” poem! Mmmm; I think the word I would use to describe this poem would be DELICIOUS! In my opinion, I’m glad that our soiree didn’t have all either solemn poems or all tongue-in-cheek poems! We had a variety of different styles and poems which caught the audience’s attention more. That’s one of the reasons I also enjoyed reading Marshalls Cookies poem. When he describes the cookies, you actually feel as if you are biting on, “sweet and tasty” or “creamy or crunchy” cookies! It was a very yummy poem!

ReplyDelete3) Yes I do have a greater appreciation of poetry now because I know that poetry isn't something you need to think really hard about. Not everyone’s a natural poet but if you think too hard then you won’t be able to write a good poem. I don’t know whether or not I’ll need poetry in the future but this was a good start into getting to write good poems! Who knows when you need to write one! I started off this poetry lesson thinking it would be kinda boring but know that I think of it, it was great.

ReplyDeleteI would say my favourite poem which I had written was the one which I had presented, “Harry Potter”! I would say this because I had my own personal inspiration. When I realised I had the chance to write whatever I wanted to write about, I started thinking too hard. I just wanted to write the best poem and that was all that I was focused on. But then I changed my mind; it didn’t matter who had the best poem, it just mattered what stood out to me the best, what I was interesting in writing about, what my passion was! So that was when the idea of Harry Potter popped into my head. JK Rowling writes with such enthusiasm and zest and she writes in such a way which when you pick up the book to start reading, you can’t put it back down! Compared to the other poems, I really relished this one the most because I had a deeper reason to write it, I was able to write about my own passion, I used one of the formats which I’m proud I got the chance to experience with etc.
When I wrote the Rebound poem, it was short, simple and to the point. There wasn’t much to say in a small poem; I loved the experimenting with apps such as Paint FX, Over, and Snapseed, especially because I edited the pictures differently from how I usually do and from how others do too! For the history poem, I wouldn’t say I didn’t enjoy writing it, but it’s not really my thing. It’s not something I look forward to having every day, but I sure loved the poem I had written about the North West Mounted Police. At first when I wrote the poem, I wasn’t that excited about it, but during the Soiree, many students had commented on and how it was informative and amazing at the same time, that made me feel more buoyant about my poems. When someone praises me for my work, it makes me feel like my work is much more valuable. I think that’s another factor which I can say added onto why I enjoyed the Harry Potter poem the most. After my live performance, a TDSB worker had come to me asking about my work, took pictures and was really amused, that gave me so much more confidence, and made me feel good about myself because it was the first time I was given the attention from most of the school for something I really worked hard on!

ReplyDelete“The roots of all goodness, lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness” –anonymous. It’s true. Yes, I do appreciate poetry more than I had ever appreciated it before. I didn’t really think of it the way I think of it now. Poetry is like a language of its own! It takes you to a world, which you don’t get to explore every now and then! And that was I found out after our 80AYYY Poetry Soiree! When we used to write poetry back in grades 2-5, it always the same repetitive thing; pencil, paper, rhyming, acrostic and the same thing over and over again. This year, we got to go beyond that. Being creative is what poetry is all about. One of the reasons why I appreciate poetry more than I ever did before is because I was valued for my work. I got the chance to show it off of what I was capable of creating with the help of my mind and technology. We don’t always get this kind of experience.
In other classes, were we ever given the chance to combine our poetry with media? Well I know that in my classes, I wasn’t. Maybe if we weren’t given the opportunity to share my work with the school and wasn’t given the opportunity to experiment with iMovie on my own, I wouldn’t appreciate it as much! Being given this type of opportunity I got to see different sides of poetry and that’s why I appreciate it more than I ever did before!
1. Katherine was the person who wrote my favourite poem of the soirée; "imagine" because the fact that she didn't rely on the book for the whole poem but also connected it with people who have a normal life without a wheelchair and without having to re-tell the whole book she just kind of blended in everything that happened to David and he went from a basketball player into a wheelchair and talked about Sean too. I also like the fact that she chose to rhyme the poem because it had a good flow and it worked great with the poem too.
ReplyDelete2. My favourite poem to write was "its scary", our own poem because it was personal to me and I expressed my feelings and thoughts about life and to be honest, the people who did read my poem; at some point in their lives, they are going to come to this point of not wanting to live anymore and just run away from their problems and hide which is kind of what my poem is about. My poem related to almost everyone's life and it's the truth.
3. After the soirée, my appreciation for poetry changed because it gives people a way to express their feelings about certain things. And after reading some of those poems written by different people, it's really inspiring how people have so much talent about things they love and how they want to turn their thoughts into words and show other people their attraction towards things.

ReplyDelete1- I didn't read a lot of poems at the soriée but from what I read my favourite one was "Its scary" by natisha. The poem was one of every first poem that I read and something about clicked in my mind and made a connection. The words fit perfectly and it described the emotions so powerfully.
2- my favourite poem to write about was afraid because I started it out by only writing one line and I continued writing it because it felt real not because I had to, I wanted to. When I finished writing afraid, it was a personal connection not only to me but to some of my friends I know.
3- Yes, I do have a greater appreciation for poetry because after seeing all those great poems, I think that poetry is a strong way to express your feelings and all kind of experiences, bad and good , imaginary or real and strange. Poetry can make the miserable things beautiful with the words.
1.) The person who wrote my favorite poem would be Jamin because his poem was good and it rhymed a lot, way more than other people that were preforming that day and to me the poem that rhymes the best is a good poem because the more the poem rhymes the more the person that is listening stays involved because the rhyming makes it more entertaining.
ReplyDelete2.) The poem that I liked to write was the Lamborghini one, because I had fun just writing it and also when toke this poem to the poetry soiree I noticed that many kids liked it and many teachers as well.
3.)Well to me poetry is a way off delivering a message and before this activity that we did as a class i did not care about or understand poetry much but then when we started doing it i really liked it so then started to get ideas to write and how to write and use rhyming in it so i did start to appreciate it aswell.

1. I think everyone’s poems were great and they had put their hard work and determination, but if I had to choose one, it would be Natisha’s poem “It’s Scary” because it had a lot of personal attachment on her side that I know of and it’s just the sad truth of reality that could make anyone connect to it. It had a lot of feeling to it and from what Natisha has told me, this poem was just formed without thinking and just out of the blue and just filled with feelings and emotions. I like this poem even more realizing how it came together and I’ve realized that the best poems aren’t thought of, they just form when you express yourself. The reactions this poem got were just priceless, for example it literally got Ms. Cater Mackenzie in tears, and some kids as young as from Grade 1 even understood it and were able to make the right comment! The poem was just experiences everyone will definitely go through at some point of their life and reading and feeling all the different angles life can be seen as was itself very scary. I was also able to make personal connection with this poem and that made it even special! Therefore, overall “It’s Scary” would have to be my most favourite poem of the Soiree.
ReplyDelete2. From my three poems, my most favourite would be “Books” because like I said the best poems are formed without thinking and just simply expressing, and that’s how I came up with that poem and it really helped me understand the real value of books. At the soiree I even tried asking some kids “What are books?” and not anyone was able to give me a proper response and said things like “it’s just something you read”. I think my poem expresses the right motive of books and in the form of poetry tries to explain it properly. My most favourite line from the poem was “books are a mortal’s immortal friends”, the line is simple but when you think about it, it has a lot of meaning to it. The other poems weren’t bad but I didn’t have a proper connection with them as I had to think and review all my facts before writing about them.
3. I personally never had a connection with poetry and thought it was just some boring thing that people would do in their free time. I could never write a poem and that would be one of the biggest reasons I never enjoyed doing it but after this soiree I’ve realized that before I would sit there thinking for rhyming words hours and hours and try to finish a piece but now it just comes to you and there’s so many different forms of poetry too so you don’t just need to fixate on one. I learned how well words can touch someone’s heart and poetry is the best way to express yourself and let people know who you actually are! I definitely respect poetry a lot more now that I know its real value.
There are many poems that I enjoyed at the soirée, but I'll mention a few. Firstly I had enjoyed Rayan's "Creativity" poem because that touched on what we were doing that day, we were being creative and exploring what we can create, as poets, and writers. It was a good desicion to present this poem because we were stuck once or twice, and we've all had writers block, and his poem showed that, and more. Another poem I had enjoyed was Katherine's Imagine poem, because even though I wasn't here for that novel study, I can sort of visualize the plot, and the characters, and what was going on in the book, Rebound. Both these poems were great! I had also enjoyed Jamin's poem, because of the way the vocabulary had rhymed, and the kids who were watching seemed to really pick up on that and I enjoy that, and so did I. It was very clever. Tommy's poem was also great, with the photography also. Even poems that weren't presented live, were great. Natisha's poem had given me chills, they way she had worded it. As was Manpreet's Rebound poem. Some poems where funny, some were so good they were scary, and some made you think. I enjoyed a lot of poems, and glad we had the chance to share them.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed writing all my poems, but I definitely enjoyed writing my Sir John A Macdonald poem, because on the research I got to do, based on him. His history and life story was very interesting (and hilarious) and I got to learn a little more, outside the classroom. That he did things that would be considered "scandalous" today, but at the same time, did great things for Canada. My divergent poem was fun to write also, because I got to share a little of what one of my favourite books was about, even if some of the readers or listeners have not yet read the book, I hope my poem had persuaded them to read the book.
Yes, I do have a greater appreciation for poetry, because it's not as easy as it seems. People think that poetry is just a bunch of rhyming words, but there's much more that goes into poetry. There's depth. Whether it's a 3 line haiku, or a 3 page rhyming poem. A lot goes into it. There's so many forms, and different ways of rhyming and your inspiration can literally fall out of the sky (reference to Manjot C's Poem). It was a great experience to see that the kids had also really enjoyed poetry and they seemed to want more. Poetry is a great art form, and a way of self expression, and I hope the people who visited our soirée enjoyed it as much as I did.
Katherine's post...
ReplyDelete1.The poems I had heard and were presented were amazing each of them had a little something in them which would catch my attention. For example tommys poem was about darkness, the whole concept was very impressive I do wish his was longer because it was a bit too short but the whole idea of him waking up an realizing hes the darkness its sounds so proficient, like hes done many poems before. Another poem I found great was manjots and marshalls the thing is theirs were too short and it left me wanting hearing more. But if I were to choose the poem I enjoyed the most I would say, rayans since his poem was deep and well thought of also his voice fit that poem so well!
2. While I “manuscripting” my three poems. I mostly enjoyed doing the imagine poem which was about rebound and the purpose of life which was our own. I honestly loved making both so I cant choose between them. For example imagine. I started off with the shape of a wheelchair since it’s a shape poem so I have a little picture to show and when I began writing I didn’t even know how to start! My mind went blank but out of nowhere these cool ideas came rushing through my mind and it all kept flowing and I continued writing and next thing I know I was done and I had a cool ending and I was so ecstatic that I could actually write a poem I never really payed attention to making poems and once I did I was proud! Same with the poem the purpose of life. It was fun since this poem is deep and quite true. I would put my shoes in each group of age and just write. For example remembering how it was being a kid, and having a baby niece, nd having a teenage cousin, and my parents all of this inspired me to write this poem qnd from what ive noticed and seen I just kept writing.
3. Well as ive mentioned before, I havent really payed attention to poetry before. Which is why at first when mentioned about our assignment that had to be done, I wasnt so excited about the whole concept but then while writing my own, and while listening to the other poems, I really do enjoy it now. I now understand that poetry is like another language and youve got to understand its deep message (well depending on the tyoe of poem it is) but yes I have learned to appreciate poetry more, now that this event has occured.
My favourite poem in the poetry soiree was the Sir J.A.M poem written by Jamin, as it gave me a view on all the controversy that surrounds Sir John. Although many modern Canadians view Sir John as a racist, alcoholic and even a dreadful monster; Jamin used poetry to tell people what an amazing politician and leader Sir John really is. Showcasing how personality and habits don't have an effect when compared to running a nation! Using poetry to debate is genius! Which is why in my opinion Jamin's poem stood out the most, the elements of rhyme and using facts that included various references to Canadian history made the poem more enjoyable. There was aspects of how Sir John was miserable and in reality a menace of today's society, but using poetry to create an opinion and overall statement made this poem my favourite.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite poem to write was my poem about creativity. Being a topic of my choice I was able to bring in new elements to the table and create a product to my liking. Many of the TED talks and writing topics convinced me to write about Creativity. The writing process its self took a lot of thought and work but I was extremely proud with the final product! Although this is a topic that is beaten to a pulp I decided to attempt to a write a poem about this very topic. It was ironic to see how creativity is extremely generic, and when creativity is mentioned the same things come to mind. Which is why I liked writing this poem; it was a challenge. A testament to the word creativity and wether I am able to create a new definition or fall in with the generic definition. Using rhyme, vocabulary and many other writing elements I was able to write something new and of value. There was the sudden occurrence of staring at a blank paper but the writing journey I went through to write this poem was amazing! No guidelines, no criterias it was just my mind and a sheet of paper... Ideas flooded my mind as there was passion. A challenge meant to be conquered and shown off to! A poem I actually care about and want to write! This poem also told me where I stand as a writer and poet, how I have improved and my tastes in life. So overall great poem to write, amazing poem to learn from
DeleteEver since the beginning, poetry for me has been described as a rhyming game for me combine sentences to create a rhyming scheme; nothing else. But as I started to contribute to the poetry soiree I started to appreciate poetry even more. There is a huge thought process that is behind each poem and writing a single poem is really in dept. Everyone got to go far and beyond, trying new things by writing in different formats , thinking of more in dept topics and much more. Fusing in more elements into our writing and even combining media with our poems made me appreciate poetry even more. Hearing, presenting and writing poems made me consider poetry as a form of art. Using writing to express feeling, emotion and thoughts really made poetry prove its worth. The soiree made this shallow topic extremely interesting and immersive.
ReplyDelete1) I really didn’t read a lot of poems since I was away for a really long time but the poems that were said out loud I think my favourite one would have to be Rayan’s on “creativity”, the reason is that he’s poem spoke about the soiree and what 8a is about. The other poem that I read was Natisha and this poem was really touching because it was full of emotions and it was really powerful. The soiree really brought the talent of writing in some of us that was hidden and we all got to explore poems that were funny, scary, emotional and much more. Overall it was nicely done.
ReplyDeleteAfter hearing and reading some poems I think poetry kind of grow on me but just a little because then again I didn’t do it and to enjoy something you have to do but I guess the soiree would remind me to write in different types of poem and to explore more with poetry.
Manjot C. She wrote a very nice, clearly and understandable poem. Her poem was about "The Sky" everything that she said about the sky was correct and she put it in her own words she didn't get it off the internet also she took photos to show us the sky. The sky do show us our feelings, when the sky is really dark it's show we are sad because we can't get to do our work, when it's bright and the sky is blue we are happy because it would put us on the right phat.
ReplyDeleteOut of all the poems the free style or writer’s choice was by far the most fun and exciting to create. It gave us a blank page to start with and we could do whatever we wanted to do, this had given us a plethora of topics and ideas to work with. And being freed from the given topics i had gone with my favourite video game the one and only Mario kart. Doing Mario kart had given me the will to do more and have fun with poetry. And with this I truly had enjoyed the experience well with this poem at the least. The others it was kind of mild compared to the Mario kart theme I had went with. The others never gave that ump to get creative and unique with my poetry. It just wasn’t fun for me but the others had seemed to enjoy it very much. But to me my favourite still has to be the writer’s choice by far!
ReplyDelete1. my favourite poem of the entire soirée would be rayans on creativity. I felt that his poem was thought provoking and stimulating. the different ways he chose to present the poem I believed were astounding, he chose three different ways to present them and used them all, which i thought was a great idea! something that I really liked was one of the pictures he had used, the one using the light bulb format, i think that the poem fits along with the picture and was overall a well thought of plan.
ReplyDelete2. my favourite poem to write wouldve been the sky poem. this poem was one of my favourites mainly because I had a visual inspiration that had generated the thought of having the poem based on the sky! i found that the inspiration of the poem was the building block of the process. by having a picture before i had written the poem made it feel as if there was a connection that I could make as i had actually taken the pictures.
3. to be honest ive never taken the time to willingly write a poem thus leading to me never taking the time to appreciate poetry. after the soirée i think that ive appreciated all the different types and variations of poems that could be made. so that would be a yes, I do appreciate poetry a lot more than I've did before. i always thought that writing poems were limited to only acrostics and rhyming. now that I've gotten to try out some types I realized that poetry is a much, much bigger concept than we all thought, there are no limitations when writing poetry besides how the poem is supposed to go.
1.My favourite poem would be Jamin's Sir John A McDonald poem. I really liked his poem because it had lots of interesting rhymes. Out of all poetry style, I really like rhyming the most. Out of all the rhyming poems, Jamin's poem stuck to me the most. It had lots of rhymes that I could never think of. I wrote a rhyming too, but Jamin's poem was much extravagant.
ReplyDelete2.My favourite poem to write was my "Winter" Poem. It was the best to write because it was my idea unlike the other two poems which had to be about Canadian's history and the book "Rebound". I feel like I project more of my thinking in to the "Winter" Poem than the other poems. This is why I choose this poem as my favourite to write.
3.My appreciation for poetry became greater. I used to think poetry meant putting rhyming sentences together. I used to think that rhyming were the only way to go when doing poetry. After this soirée, I know that poetry is more than just rhyming. There are many ways of doing poetry, not just rhyming. There are many styles such as:haikus, cinquains, limericks and etc.. I also know that is can be presented in different way such as Over.
1. My favourite poem of the soirée was the poem entitled Sky written by Manjot C. I liked many of the other poems but if I had to choose my favourite, it would be this one in particular. I chose this one because the vocabulary was amazing, (joke even if you didn't know what the word meant you could take a good guess because of how well she fit it into each sentence) the picture were original, and she really made us visualize the sky in a way we had never done before. You never actually stop what you're doing to really take a look at the sky and just appreciate it, this poem made me realize that.
ReplyDelete2. My favourite poem to write was my original one entitled Eternal Sleep. This poem was the most fun to write for me. What I did was, I took my love for the genre of Murder and Mystery and turned it into my own poem. I enjoyed writing this poem so much because I felt that it was something different, something I enjoyed. "You enjoy death?" obviously not. It's just something interesting, bone chilling, I love all of that. When you read this poem it may seem scary or creepy, but you'll see past that and recognize that it's not exactly true, I don't actually know what the dead think.
ReplyDelete3. I've always liked poetry, it's just something I never really focused on. I never really focused on this because it seemed like there were certain limitations to writing poetry, I thought there were only like one or two types of poems you could write and that's it. I now know that the list of the types of poetry that could be made is an endless list. I just never took the time to actually check out that list. My view on poetry has changed. Poetry is like free writing to me now. I definitely do appreciate it more now because I've seen it in a way that I never used to.
Let me just start off by saying that there was a ton of amazing poems that I personally loved but there was one that stood out to me the most and it was jamin’s sir john poem. I really enjoyed this poem cause of the way it spoke about sir john a McDonald yes it was serious and all but it could have been done in so many different ways. He could have been all relaxed and funny or like he was all serious or he could have even acted sad but overall the way he presented it was amazing and I enjoyed it a lot. I will say that another things I enjoyed about his poem was the vocabulary and the way it was written cause even if it sounded like we had to be serious and not laugh or smile the way he wrote it was amazing cause of the words is was written in a way that even if you said it like a joke people would still take it very seriously because of the words he used they were words that should not be taken lightly. Lets say he was to joke around and not be all serious at the end of the poem you would look back at and be like wow! .he had me thinking about what his life was like what he had to go through and deal with cause of all the tough times and hard things he had to do. The poem itself had me in amazement because it was(can’t stress enough) overall well written and spoken like a pro.
ReplyDeleteSo as you all can tell I enjoyed writing my cookie poem cause of the fact that I had fun well doing it I enjoyed the fact that I was one of the very few people that’s poem was not serious. It was also was something that all the people enjoyed it was something everyone loved to eat and have and I was also able to put smiles one peoples faces. It was also fun because it was just a normal poem that unlike the others made people smile and lighten up their day.
Ye I have a much greater appreciation for poetry because now besides just normal boring talking and express myself that that way I could instead use poetry. This has given me a new way to do things and given me an amazing new outlook on poetry I now see why people would do it and why its such a good thing. I was able to express what I wanted in a new and creative way that showed what I really like to do and what im really all about!

ReplyDelete1. Who wrote your favourite poem of the soirée? Explain why?
All of the poems were great but my favourite poem would have to be Manjot C's poem. Her poem was marvellous, she took a simple topic, the sky, and wrote an astonishing poem on it. I also liked how she presented it, the pictures, that she took herself of the pinkish sky were stunning and the variations of the colours in the pictures enhanced the poem.
Another poem I liked was Reshmi's Harry Potter poem because at first I wasn't too fond of Harry Potter at all. I thought it was boring and had too much words but after hearing her poem I think I might read the book, it sounds interesting.
2. What was your favourite poem to write? Explain why?
I think my favourite poem to write would be my Rebound rhyming poem. The beginning of the school year when we had to write poems for our journal prompts I always had trouble because I hated to write poems, I couldn't get any words to rhyme AND make sense. So when we had to do this I tried
really hard and succeeded, I was proud of that poem.
3. Do you have a greater appreciation of poetry now? Explain why?
Yes, I do have a greater appreciation of poetry. Before I didn't care about it I thought it was drudging and unexciting because we were mostly taught rhyming and acrostic poems. Now that we got to research and analyze other types of poems I actually enjoy it, I can now write poems and not be disinterested.
