Check out this link on making speeches!

It's time to focus on the body of your speech! Let's work in 3s and consider having 3 key pieces of info you want to share to support your position and convince others. One should be fact and statistics based, another an anecdotal or personal story, the other a hybrid connection to another source of text.

Each section should be constructed in a similar fashion to how you designed your opening paragraph. I unique opening, clear information, and finish by linking it back to your main point.

To begin;
1. List the 3 sources of critial evidence you will use and build with

2. Begin constructing the three sections (paragraphs)

3. Read and record and listen ... What do you think!

Post the response to number 1-2 here...

Hey terrorist! Hey turban head! Do you keep grenades up there? It's easy to call names, but it is exceptionally unbearable when you are at the receiving end. Once you label someone, you negate them. When we think of Muslims, many of us assume guns, terrorists, masks, bombs, when we think of the gay, we think of feminine actions, but stereotypes are JUST the views of the small minded. Is that the way we want to judge people? By being superficial; and by the way, who are we to judge a human by their appearances race or religion? Specifically, I’d like to share the Muslim race as now they have become highly visible in the public eye of what many of us call "terrorist" attacks...stereotyping results into our prejudicial attitudes, and creates a bar between "us" and "them". My name is Reshmi Verma, and today I am here to share with you why I believe stereotyping is absolutely wrong.
There's good and bad in all races, nations and societies. We can never reconcile our differences in race or culture or nationality or faith, but we all agree in this plain truth. So much divides us but what unites us? I think the universal values of love, peace, friendship, compassion, honesty, equality, and respect is most important at these crucial times. Just because ones Muslim doesn't define them as a terrorist, and one who belongs to Jainism isn't always all that compassionate. We all say that all Muslims are terrorists, but let's take Osama bin Laden for example. He masterminded the 9/11 attack and killed thousands of innocent people. What was their fault? They just happened to be at the Twin Towers in that fateful time. And then there is Barrack Hussein Obama, who the son of a Muslim father is a very well respected President of USA, who is trying so hard to bring peace to the world, and for that, he had won the Noble Peace prize in 2009. One priest saves levers, another abuses altar boys; one Nazi runs the oven, another hides Jews. You cannot label a race, we are all from different places and believe in different things but we are all human.

    1. From a psychological point of view, self esteem is a very important to live life fruitfully for self as well as humanity. A person loses their identity, due to lack of confidence. It has been established that people who are profiled. Particularly at a very young age develop low self worth when they grow up. Many times, they become withdrawn, and keep it to themselves. They don’t participate in social activities, and some hold grudges against people who profile them. They allow themselves to be radicalized. There are radical elements in all religions, and they spot the vulnerable youth and brainwash them into thinking that Muslim= terrorist. How would you feel if people were saying things about how students from Beaumonde Heights are absolutely dumb, disrespectful, there school isn’t well put together, the teams suck and frame you of things you haven’t done? Stereotyping would lead to many more complicated issues. It creates disharmony amongst the people, brings depression, and they stop trusting each other. I was recently watching a ted talks video after my Muslim friend recommended it to me. Right in the beginning, a woman in a hijab walks onto the stage saying “My name is Hamda Yusuf and I can scare the entire plane full of people just by getting up to use the washroom”. Just imagine how she must feel. With all these eyes starring her every step down. It must’ve made her feel miserable, with all these people defining her as “terrorist”. Stereotyping creates many more complicated psychological problems. This doesn’t only lower self confidence, but can also cause the victim to be empowered in a negative way. This gives them the motivation to harm people who profile them, by the terrorist activities. Have you ever thought what terrorists do what they do? This is one of the many reasons. So profiling isn’t that shallow, it leads to deeper divisions in the society.
Any kind of profiling or stereotyping is absolutely illegal as it violates the core of the value of the charter of rights. There are laws in place, by which one can be prosecuted and punished. It is also humanly disgusting to engage in hateful behavior. In my opinion, this crosses the limit of decency. We live in a civil society, where we have to follow the norms of decent living with respect and dignity for each and everyone. Racial profiling has also affected a wide range of people of colour. Nearly 400 years of slavery and racial segregation has resulted into systematic profiling of blacks in every sphere of life. Since 9/11, a number of Sikhs, Arabs, and Muslims have been profiled by airlines, police, and other government agencies. Now the government is passing stringent laws to punish. People who indulge in any kind of stereotyping shouldn’t continue to ask according to the laws; we are trying to ensure peace and harmony on the country. I think strict laws will be a deterrent to people who practice stereotyping.

    2. “The bravest thing anyone can do in this modern society of judgment and stereotypes is to simple be themselves”- anonymous. I completely agree with this! I have a Muslim friend whose uncle wanted to become a pilot. He was Muslim himself, and as he had gone to go give his interview, he was right away told that he wouldn’t be able to receive the job. He wasn’t told why, but isn’t it quiet obvious? He was a Muslim so they ASSUMED he was a terrorist! Some people’s thoughts can be so sickening! What kind of community are we living in? Where everyone is so judgmental? We must remain true to ourselves and must not deviate from universal human values of truth, love, peace, honesty and respect for everyone. On our part, we shouldn’t encourage these talks, because the only thing that we are going to get out of this idle talk is, phobia, fear, hatred, and unpleasantness. The most important thing the world needs is peace. We must all dissociate ourselves from this hateful habit of any types of profiling and stereotyping.
“One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world”-Malala Yousafzai. Many of us may know her story, but many of us may not, so here is a brief storyline to Malala. She has fought long and hard for the girls’ right to go to school. She grew up the Swat Valle, where the Taliban had come and threatened to kill people, girls to quit school, and they would bomb over 400 girls in the Valley. In 2008, the Taliban began to blow up schools, mostly girls. And that’s when Malala spoke up for the right for girls’ education and to go to school, and in 2012, she held a speech for all politicians saying “We must work together for girls rights. One day after her exam while her and her friends were chatting, 2 men dresses in white wandered passed them asking “which one of you is Malala?’ The girls were full of fear and starred at Malala, and that’s when the man fired right through Malala’s head. A week later she had gained consciousness and received several award and had won the Nobel Peace prize as the youngest nominee. Now why is this important? Why am I sharing this with you? Well, we don’t see that many Muslims are standing up for their rights, and many Muslims are actually struggling and themselves EXPERIENCING terrorist attacks. Malala is a Muslim girl herself, and her entire family was committed to her speeches, decisions and opinions to help our very own society, while if half of us were to ever stare at her picture for even a second, the first thing that would come to our minds would be “terrorist” What kind of society has this become?

    3. “There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies”-Martin Luther King Jr. We are so caught up in making assumptions, let’s get to know one another. Muslims…they’re really not that hard to understand, it’s also the media that contributes to the intense stereotyping. Check out these vines these days, the facebook videos we “like” without thinking, youtubers, bloggers etc. Always imitating Muslims, the gay, Indians, Jews, every single race, or culture or religion: you name it! Since when has it become okay to label Muslims as terrorists but it’s illegal to profile people? Issues only arise when people start to stereotype. Our world is just becoming an uglier place to live in. We live in a magical time of rockets, internet and facebook. Boundaries of countries are blurring, ethnicities are intermingling, our globe has shrunk, yet the world seems more fragmented than ever. Anyone can be a terrorist, you, you or even me… but just remember, when you point a finger to someone, there are always still 4 fingers pointing right back at you…
      Thank You

  2. Speech rough draft

Topic: what our world be like without religion?

There was to be someone, someone out there that can find a medicine for this madness, the madness of branding humans with different religions." Nothing has done more to separate and divide humans from one another than exclusivist organized religion". Kids are always taught the importance of culture, the importance of no racism and you shouldn't judge anyone by their skin colour but all that wouldn't be needed if we were just labelled as human beings. The reality is that our belief are creating a boundary line that divides the world into many parts. Are we gods mistake or is God our mistake? I'm not against religion, I have a religion of my own but can't you imagine all these catastrophe that are taking place are because of our confidence on our religion. Maybe we need a second to get all the facts straight.

Religion is man-made, it is a organized collection of beliefs, it has many cultural systems within it. It is suppose to explain the meaning of life and how the universe got started basically the origin of life. Religion plays a huge role in society, there are many people on earth who have the opinion that humanity would be better of leaving it behind for a number of reasons and I can give you some of them. Let's start of with Messiah stories, they've been around for a thousands and thousands of years, the idea of human race is as old as the human race itself, since then it's been echoing through and creating beliefs in our religions. Furthermore religion doesn't line up with our Modern Values for example the Bible. Most are aware that the book provides the keeping of slaves, the murders of homosexuals and adulterers, and the selling of children. Some have the judgement that these such things have no place in civilized society. Yes these things were common 2000 years ago, but that's the point, that was 2000 years ago it's 2015 everything and everyone's priorities have changed.

I also want to mention conflict, the reason is that religion is behind many conflict, large and small. If religiosity is the key to understanding human nature and our place in the universe, then why don't we all get along? Why were there WARS? I guess we all cannot expect that everyone's religion has different concept of who and what God gives. There are hundreds and thousands of religions all over the world and they all can't be right, unless they're metaphors, different interpretation of the truth, maybe we all have the same goal but choose to go in many different directions.

There is no really scientific evidence religion but ever since the development of science, we were able to recover things that we weren't able to half a century ago like the nature of matter and the structures of cells and proteins but some of our biggest questions haven't been answered yet. How did we get here? Where did we come from? Who were the first ones? There is no prove for our scientists to believe but many religions sates that we were a gift of God and and the Earth was designed by God. Who don't believe encountered that it very much does look like a design but we can not make false judgement because it will change the generation to come.

  3. The number 1 reasons to leave religion behind because religion helps us to avoid our responsibilities. If every aspect of our existence is part of gods plan, if everything that did or will happen is Gods will and if we only if we only live for God, the need for us to be responsible would be redundant because everything's gonna happen by Gods will and you can't change the point of being responsible doesn't make any sense.

I want to indicate an event that took place on 16th December 2014, The Peshawar Attack, a school shooting, killing 145 in which included 132 children of an Army Public School. I didn't read or heard or even watched on tv. I was actually in the country when the attack took I place. It was like the soul of the country was crying, there wasn't one mother in the country that didn't have a tear in her eyes. Are we for serious we're ready to sacrifice children live cause no child should have to suffer through what they had to do. We're losing all our humanity what do you thing the next generation is gonna do have little kid carry around guns and the first person they see with different skin colour there gonna shot. Wow what great examples we're being.

Everyone has the right to have a opinion and
I want to purpose a statement I believe that there's one God but has a million names. Once a wise man said" your beliefs don't make you a better person, your behaviour does " We shouldn't have so much hatred in ourself that we are ready to kill the other person. We can't change the past but we change the future. We have to change the way some of us think. We humans are very stubborn but now it's time to accept the truth that we all live on this planet for peace not for hatred. It's time to move on even if we do believe in religion I'd like to make one request we're the generation that has to change so the generation to come doesn't become a disaster. If you believe that everyone has a different beliefs then you can turn the world around.

  4. 1.) i) The first thing that is my evidence is that hybrid cars or cars that use less gasoline are sort of helping the earth I said sort of because they are helping but at the same time they still are polluting it because cars still do use gasoline and gas means pollution.

ii) The other thing is that we should get carbon fibre parts like bumpers skirts or fenders to reduce the weight of the car the more the weight is less the more gas you will be saving and that help you travel farther that the car did before because of the weight reduction.

iii) The third thing is that we should try making engines for cars that run on something else like water because believe it or not they have an engine that runs on water but for some reason it is not in production cars, are probably still testing it and how much powers it produces. They can also make cars that run on electricity.

iiii) The 4th thing is that people with cars with big engines for example, 3.0L and more, these people should switch to some thing with a smaller engine or if they got the money a Eco car or in simpler words hybrid cars

  5. SPEECH DRAFT 1:
    Sex- Education
As the new law has been confirmed by Kathleen Wynne since February 2015, about sex-education finally being conceded in schools in Canada, the majority of parents have been debating on this decision since most are religious and don't like the idea of their children being exposed to so much at such a young age. “children at this age- they're still not physically and emotionally ready to hear anything about grownups and sex. they're not ready for that so they shouldn't be hearing things like that.” said a disaccording parent. which can be agreeable, who would like to risk their children from doing such things, but then again we have to remember this specific curriculum is so in depth and well thought of, that the writers (of the textbooks) are careful of what they write for the teachers to educate. this topic is the most delicate topic to touch with children especially in grades 1-6, so we have to be mindful that the students will learn what should be done and what shouldn't.

In 2010 Dalton McGuinty and Kathleen Wynne had promised that sex-ed would begin for students to be aware of how to treat the concept. But many angry parents fought against the whole idea which is why McGuinty put the decision behind and forgot about the whole thing. until in 2014, Kathleen Wynne once again made the idea public and wanted this all to occur. Some parents say not enough of them were surveyed so they cannot proceed with the agreement meanwhile the papers were already signed and the curriculum was ready to ship.

Many parents agree that their children should learn about this in a safe manner meaning also being aware of the consequences of their actions. which would happen with sex- ed. Meanwhile other many parents do not want their children to know about these things being afraid their own children will make the wrong decision and end up messing up their lives. But think about this: there are so many teens right now making the wrong decisions and it's already too late so if from young they learn its a wrong thing but it's still taught at school, there is a greater possibility of more control in this situation. why? because they will know the consequences and they will know its wrong. Hasn’t it happened to you that when your parents say NO YOU CANT DO THAT! there's more of a possibility that you'll do it because you have an urge to see what would happen. And what doesn't benefit at all is that sometimes the parents don't want to explain so they just say don't do it. Not explaining the consequences will make the child do it. But if the child is explained, there's a chance they'll be afraid or even terrified of what could happen so there could be a chance of nothing happening. its also been said that this curriculum uses shame, fear and guilt to scare young people. some people don't agree with this but i do. if you show the bright side of this delicate topic, of course the children will find no problem in trying it out, but if you show the bad side effects, then of course the children wont want to do it, until they're old enough, and will completely understand.

    1. continued..
In Toronto (tdsb) the first graders, children will know the body parts. grade 2, they will learn the stages of development and body changes, no means no, and elements of verbal and physical violence, in grade 3 same sex- relationships will be exposed to the children. grades 4-5 there will be changes associated with puberty, in grade 6 there will be discussion about masturbation and gender expression, in grade 7-8 contraception, preventing pregnancy, anal and oral sex and sexually transmitted infections, and grade 9-12 it will be more advanced. Some commenters indicated that starting to teach first graders, is too soon and just plain absurd, but in reality from grade 1-5 the children will only learn how to protect themselves from bad people, they wont learn so much in depth so its not that bad. but from grade 6-10, students get curious and have more freedom and thats exactly when it all begins to be exposed more, so thats the perfect time to teach everything; so they know what they are getting themselves into once in the situation.

our parents may wonder how come at 10 years of age we know so much that well they learned when married! well, back then there wasn't internet or youtube, they had just started to invent tv’s. so there wasn't much exposed since everyone was so innocent and all they did was play around with their friends, finish homework and do chores since there was nothing really else to do. and for research they had to go to libraries and i don't think bad things were written on books unless for adults. but now we have so much internet and bad influences around us so we learn things we are not supposed to at a young age. anything we want to search up or know, we can just search it up and thats it, we get what we want. theres no security in what we see so we end up finding out about things and begin to be curious. also, most of us have older brothers or sisters and since teenagers are messed up in this generation, they teach us bad things which also lead to curiosity, and our friends talk about it all the time with us. as much as our parents want us to be all innocent for a good amount of time, its hard nowadays since everything is served on a silver platter. but with sex-ed wouldn't you rather teachers following a specific curriculum to teach your children other than their friends or the internet? i would because i know that those teachers will teach with precaution of not meaning the wrong thing or idea while bad influences will convince their friends that its completely fine and is very fun so why not try it?

But parents, do not think that this speech is showing you as the bad guy. No. I just want you to think about what could be making teens have intercourse without even being married. Only doing it for pleasure. Yes as a parent since you don't want your children being exposed to all of this you think avoiding the topic or forbidding it is the best thing to do. But for example, if you avoid this topic. i wont guarantee it. But you're son or daughter could make up an excuse maybe saying "I didn't know it was bad" or "you never told me it was bad so you can't punish me”. and well that is true so its better them knowing its bad and its better that they don't have to be so awkward about the subject with you. everyone has a different opinion and different reasons and i shared mine with you, so now the question is are you convinced?
