  1. 1) My topic is Gun Control

    2) Columbine. Virginia Tech. Tucson. Aurora. Fort Hood. Oak Creek. Newtown. All of these schools have one thing in common. They have all been affected by useless, and preventable gun violence. It’s no secret that in the past few years there has been a rise of gun violence. There are some things that need to be said. In both Canada and the US it is legal (with proper paperwork) to own a firearm, and correct me if I’m wrong, in the US its even legal to be publicly armed. How much sense does it make to say its okay for you to own a gun, but please don’t shoot anyone, because then it’s illegal?
And stop, before you say anything, I know the common argument is ‘guns are form of protection’. I’m sorry, don’t we invade other countries using the opposite of that logic? Because I can think of several countries we’ve invaded who are just ‘protecting’ themselves. If guns were illegal, there would be less people to protect, who had guns. Less guns in general, means less people need a gun!

    3) That we don't need guns, and it's only a way for people to be hurt, instead of 'protected'

    4) Grade 5- Bullying
    Grade 6- Violence In Schools
    Grade 7- Racism

    5) It's a topic that's been debated and both sides of the argument have good reasons but I'd like to share my opinion on this topic. I've had family friends (whether I knew them from the Mosque, or by my parents) and there seems to be a pattern with members of the Somali community (especially in the Dixon and Rexdale area) and I'd like just to speak out about this. Of course there are many topics, and I'd love to talk about all of them, but this one just hit closer to home.

  2. TOPIC: new sex education curriculum

premier Kathleen Wynne has announced that there will be a new sex education program in Ontario. She has also done this in the year 2010 but was shut down 3 days after due to the public outcry of parents in Ontario. Why? You would think that a new sex education curriculum would be good for the older grades in Ontario, but that is not the case here. She is introducing the curriculum to the younger grades starting off early with the grade ones. Can you believe this?! In grade one, you are supposed to learn to read write, the basic things like adding and subtracting, not about learning about, and I quote” Identify body parts, including genitalia, using correct terminology.” Children in grade one should not learn about this kind of things, this is outrageous!!! People are already speaking out against it, but it is still “a go” and will be launched in the fall of 2015. I think this is a disgusting thing and she should be stopped. Why should our future kids have to be exposed to such things at an early age,

(this is only one of my speech ideas, there will be additional topics soon too come)

3)what i am trying to convince the people is that we should disband and petition against this, as well as it not age appropriate but it should be disbanded in Ontario.

    4)Video games are good
    -video games are bad
-humanities obscure obsession with material items with somewhat value

5)I do not want my future children to learn about this at an ealry age since it is age inappropriate.

    (second topic coming
    -mental illness)

  5. My topic will be: Doctor assisted suicide

    My Opening:

Stranded, Alone, Why won't you just let me go?!
Why can't you see I don't want it anymore I've already got it You Have to LET ME GO!

I think there is nothing wrong with it, Why should someone suffer though the pain you can't even imagine just to keep a few people happy, Why should you have power over someone else's life?

Doctor assisted suicide has been a highly debated topic, What do you think is it Wrong or is it Right?

    Purpose Statement:
I'm trying to cconvince the audiance to agree with me that Doctor assisted suicide should be legeal

    List of 3 prev topics:
    Enviorment
    Bullying
    Technology has gone to far

I have selected this topic mainly because it intersts me also becasue I have a few family members that are quite old and have a few conditions I just don't want to find them dead one day, they if they ever choose to end it all I wouldn't disagree I want them to die peacefully I want them to have control over their death

    1. i believe that doctor assisted suicide should not be legal because if you help someone commit suicide, you dont end the chances of life getting worse, you eliminate the possibility if it getting better

    2. Say I had cancer and I only had a few days to live and I just couldn't take the pain and all the stress and I wanted to suicide instead of death by cancer do you still think that its wrong?

      Delete
    3. you should cherish those last days and make them happy days, spend it with your family, not killing yourself, who knows, maybe you could make amends for things that were done in the past. but you dont just kill yourself.

      anyone agree???

  6. 1) My topic is police brutality

    2) What was an usual night for Rodney King, ended up as a nightmare. Police apprehended Rodney, and Rodney hesitated to get out of the car. When he did get out, Rodney was struck by two darts from a taser gun, which exceeded 5,000 volts. According to the police, he continued to refuse to lie flat on the floor and in less than 2 minutes Rodney was stricked by 26 baton baton blows and kicked 5 times. Rodney suffered from skull fractures, brain damage, broken teeth and kidney damage. Not to mention emotional, mental and physical trauma. Over the past decade, police have acted in ways that have impacted how we think of police. The statement of, "Are our officers of the law really doing their job?" Unjustified shootings, rough treatment and severe beatings have all contributed to the problem of police brutality. "Many in our community have to live in fear of both cops and robbers, what concrete steps would you take to end brutality"- Al Sharpton

    3) I want the audience to realize that the communities' "guardians" can be the complete opposite and that they should be alerted on how police can react... It's wrong and needs to be brought up

    4) Previous topics- Grade 5: Elder abuse
Grade 6: Video games cause real world violence?
Grade 7: Technology, blessing or curse?
    (Incomplete)

  7. Topic...
    Stereotypes violently used against Muslims

    Introduction/ opening paragraph...
Hey terrorist! Hey turban head! Do you keep grenades in your head? It's easy to call names, but it is exceptionally unbearable when you are at the receiving end. Once you label someone, you negate them. When we think of Muslims, many of us assume guns, terrorists, masks, bombs, when we think of the gay, we think of feminine actions, but stereotypes are JUST the views of the small minded. Is that the way we want to judge people? By being superficial; and by the way, who are we to judge a human by their appearances race or religion? Specifically, if like to share the Muslim race as now they have become highly visible in the public eye of what many of call "terrorist" attacks...stereotyping results into our prejudicial attitudes, and creates a bar between "us" and "them".

    Purpose...
I want to convince the audience to think before they speak because often we label people just because of where they are from, their race or religion. We can all relate to this because I know we all are racist within ourselves, no matter we mention it to others or keep it inside. So me sharing this topic can result into others feeling differently about themselves in a positive manner, change others attitudes or get the audience at least thinking about how they see the world.

    3 previous speech competition ideas...
For grade 5 I had made a speech on animal cruelty. For grade 6, my speech was on how technology should be used more often by children as there are so many benefits and in grade 7, my topic was similar to my grade 6s speech. For speech in grade 5, I didn't have any personal connection because even I eat meat and aren't a vegetarian or wear wool which comes from sheep etc. my speech was about how we shouldn't keep these animal decorations in our homes, shouldn't wear leather and should become vegetarians, but the effect and my evidence wasn't that strong to convince the audience or even myself.
For grades 6 and 7, I was confident with what I was saying but there was always the question of cyberbullying or being exposed to too much as a young child. Even though I went above that saying you should still have your parents power over you to control and monitor what you are doing over the Internet and to keep the child safe, things don't always happen as we plan or the way we want to.

Reason why I selected this topic...
So for this year, I'm confident with what I'm saying because everyone can understand what I'm talking about, and the ones who disagree, they can see the receiving ends point of view, and the audience is always more interested when they can relate to it. Specifically, my speech talks about stereotypes used against the Muslims. We can't all relate to being made fun of because we wear a hijab or because the terms "terrorist" is always used against us, but we can all relate to other stereotypes. If your indian, you are often made fun of because of your turban. If you are Asian, many are made fun of because of their eyes etc. stereotypes such as all Chinese have straight hair or are bright, no matter it's positive or negative, we shouldn't label others.
We all hear and say ourselves that blond women are dumb, women who smoke or drink don't have morals, all dark skinned are great basketball players, girls are not good at sports, all Indians are deeply spiritual (used from http://fos.iloveindia.com/stereotypes-examples.html) So me choosing this topic will probably change minds on the way people feel about themselves. That they aren't alone and we all experience it. Just because someone is Muslim, indian, European, gay, female or male, doesn't define them with certain characteristics, and that's what i wanted to share, so that's the reason I chose this topic. Especially relating to Muslims, because they experience this a lot, and I'm assuming the most!

  8. 1) what our world be like without organized religion

    2) There has to be someone, someone out there that can find a medicine for this madness, the madness of branding human beings with different religions." Nothing has done more to separate and divide humans from one another than exclusivist organized religion". Kids are alway taught the importance of religion, the importance of no racism and you shouldn't judge people by their colour but all that wouldn't be needed if we were just labelled as human beings. The reality is that our beliefs are creating a boundary line that divides the world into many parts. Are we gods mistake or is god our mistake? I'm not against religion, I have one of my own but can't you imagine all these catastrophes are because of our confidence on our religion. Maybe we need a second to get all the facts straight.

    3) I want to tell my audience that religion is not bad but we shouldn't go to over board that we start hating humans.

    4) grade 5- racism
    Grade 6-bullying
    Grade 7- poverty

    5) I chose this topic because of the events that are taking place in the world and I guess because very different religion is pretty much at war. Now a days some parents are telling children to make friends with there kind but isn't having no religion better than fighting with others .

  9. 1)Topic: The topic I choose is mental illnesses/disorders.

    2) Let me start by introducing myself, my name Dipender from 8A and i will be talking about mental illnesses. What are mental illnesses? A mental illness is an illness of the mind. People with a mental illness may behave in strange ways, or have strange thoughts, in their view or the view of others. Mental illnesses develop during the lifetime of a person. This may be linked to genes or diffrent experiences. mental illnesses can be cured depending on the type of illness, many illnesses can't be cured, but the persons conditions can be improved by medication or theorpy.

    3) i want to convince people that people with mental illnesses are still human beings even if they cant think or act as same as we do, and their health can be improved, or even cured, so people with those illnesses shouldn't be treated diffrently unless it is compulsory to do so because of there condition.

    4) -gun control- that is it because i came last year

  11. 1) My topic is Abortion.
    2) What's an abortion? "An abortion is a 10 minute procedure that you have the rest of your life to regret." Why do people do abortion? Rapes. Medical conditions. Society. Age. Morals. Accidents. Do you think it's right to take someone's life away who has no say? It's a crime to kill a human once it's born, but it's not a crime to kill a human in a womb? Every time a girl gets pregnant at the wrong time or circumstances she thinks "my mom is going to kill me", but does she realize the child in her womb who says "my mom is going to kill me"?
    3) I want to convince the audience that no matter what happens in life and you want to take an abortion, think of the unborn child, think from its perspective, or think "what if my mother chose to do this"? As we are getting older, us girls might go through a stage like this ourselves, or even see our friends and families go through times like this but usually abortions are done out of terror, but just once sit down and think calmly about the unborn life in you. Also, in situations like rapes, I know that of course you wouldn't want such child, but think about it, is it the child's fault it's the result of a rape? It's not. Therefore, either you can keep the child or give it up for adoption, but killing is just cold hearted and against humanity.
    4) The first time I did a speech at Beaumonde was in Grade 7 and the speech topic I chose was child labour. It wasn't out of a personal connection, but at the time in Asia there were a lot of news about children dying because of child labour and unwanted accidents, therefore it motivated me to write a speech about it.
    5) With this topic I have a personal experience, as a young child I didn't have much knowledge about all this but around the age of 4 I remember the time my parents had to make a decision like this. Having 2 fairly young children is hard and you want to raise them properly than getting your attention diverted various ways. My parents weren't really ready for another child and therefore they wanted to abort my younger sister, but a few days earlier my mom had accidentally mentioned that I was going to have another sister and as a young child I was pretty much excited and was ready to share anything and everything with my little sister, but then a few days later when I overheard them saying they didn't want the child, I broke into tears and threw tantrums and of course acted like a spoilt brat, but then even then I gave lectures with my childish knowledge and then my parents gave it a thought for me and chose to keep the child instead. Therefore, today I have a younger sister that I really didn't keep all the promises with but no matter how much I hate her, she still means so much to me. That's why, think before you go towards abortion because in this case, that child might not just be your child but someone's sibling, grandchild, nephew, niece, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  12. So I know we all like to think of ourselves as good people and I don't mean you as a person I mean us as a species. We have to be able to make the hard choices no one else is willing to make we have to know when something we normally don't do will be right and should be done. What this might be well the hardest choice that we won't do anymore is well.... killing those who have done something to someone that no one should ever have happen. Yes I'm talking about the death penalty that is no longer done anymore cause it's consider wrong. But is it really that wrong? I'm not saying we should kill just to kill somebody no we aren't savages no we are people who have the ability to think of better ways to solve things. But what if that was the solutions what if killing was the only way for us to make sure that they don't get back into our city and do what they did again! Cause let's face it people are gonna say "oh well every one deserves a fair chance at life" but how about you say that to the person who was on the other side of that gun or knife or that little boy or girl who was violated didn't they deserve a fair chance at life but look at what happened to them. “I don’t think you should support the death penalty to seek revenge. I don’t think that’s right. I think the reason to support the death penalty is because it saves other people’s lives." Now that I have gotten that out of the way maybe I can change your mind on why we should be doing the death penalty

What am I trying to do:well I'm trying to convince people on the matter of the death penalty and why it should be brought back to our legal system

I chose this because I have seen the affects to what has happened to people after a very spurious thing had happen to there daughter and what that dose to people and the fact that they let him out on bail and his sentenced was shortened and the in raged me

Three other topics I have chosen are in the past are abortion, drug abuse and the sex ed core curriculum,

    ReplyDelete
  13. TOPIC: Deadbeat Dads
"If you lay down and make a BABY, stand up and be a DADDY." What happens after a family breaks up? 87% of children end up living with their mother, only about 7% of children live with their fathers. After a family separation children regularly see their fathers, irregularly see them, barely, and then never. It's pretty easy to make a child but seems so hard to actually be a father. Both the mother and the father are have the authority; they are the authority, the father is the more stern one that makes sure the child is listening and obeying rules. The mother is more of the comforting one and the one that makes sure you're okay at all times. Without a father figure a child is like a free spirit. Growing up without a father is like growing up with no authority so you don't know how to respond to it. This is why most children without fathers would be described as "disrespectful" or "out of hand", this is not it. They just don't know how to respond to authority since they've never really had any apart from a single mom. This doesn't apply to all the fathers out there, just to the ones that know they can be there but don't want to be.
PURPOSE: Trying to let those without a father know that they aren't alone and to convince those who will later on be fathers that they play a very important role in a child's life.
    3 PREVIOUS TOPICS:
    - Gangs
    - Racism
    - Animal Cruelty
    WHY THIS TOPIC?
I chose this topic because I had read an article about this girl who grew up without a father and how it had such a huge affect on her life. Anytime he would call, it would be for money. Never actually for her. I know for a fact she isn't the only one, that's why I decided to address this topic.

  14. 1.) My topic is cars

2.) As time passes by gasoline is getting expensive to get a full tank for a car with a small engine say 1.5 litre would cost you 50 to 60 dollars and that is a lot of money, with hybrid cars it does not really matter if full the tank of the car is full or don’t have a full tank because when gas is finished the hybrid cars drive on electricity which is quiet neat when you think about it like driving fully on electricity and the other thing is that you don’t hear the engine sounds when driving on electricity because it is totally shut off the engine it is doing nothing it’s just the extra batteries that save the day and since the hybrid cars are usually light weight cars that gives them an advantage to travel farther distances.

3.) So the purpose of the speech is to convince people to get Eco green cars in simple words hybrid cars or cars with smaller engines for example, 1.5L or 2.4L, so basically something that does not take too much gasoline or pollutes the earth that much.

    4.) Grade 5-no smoking
    Grade 6-gun control
    Grade 7-green home gases

5.) The reason why I chose this topic because I just like cars

  15. Topic: Poverty
It would be nice if the poor were to get even half of the money that is spent in studying them. ~Bill Vaughan
Like really, why are more people living in poverty as each day goes on. Seriously, why? If we gave less than one percent of what this world spends on weapons every year, we could put every child in school but it didn't happen. Everyday 22,000 kids die in remote and removed villages because we can't help them. Like really, 80% or more of humanity is living of less than 10 dollars a day. The reason this happens is because the ones born in a poor family cannot afford to have an education. This problem can be solved with combined effort of the powers in the world. If each country gave free basic education. We could stop this horror known as poverty. I hope you support me my idea of stopping poverty or at least the idea of stopping poverty by the end of this speech.

I want people to stop and think about poverty. If 80% of humanity are experiencing poverty, Then not a lot of people are gonna be born in a wealth or average family. You could have been born in Poverty. If you were born in poverty, then there is a big chance you would have died before the age of five. I want people to realize that they weren't born in poverty by pure luck. If you don't want to experience something as terrible as poverty then why should other people experience it. This is what I want people to realize.

Previous Speech: Grade 7 I did a speech about child labor. Other than that I didn't do speech before because my old school didn't do them. I choose to right about this topic because my grandmother and mother lived in a place where there was a bit of poverty around them. It wasn't as sever as other places but still not everyone had the same opportunities and option as the people who were more wealth like my family.

  16. Topic: Why shouldn't Marijuana be legal for medical purposes..

Fourteen states have legalized medical Marijuana use, why not more? we do not know how many people have cancer, stress or any other sickness.
7'304'088'134 and counting more by seconds are living on this earth today, 19'282'727 people have die from cancer and 5'895'730 have cancer. In America 1500 people have cancer and that's only today what about tomorrow also that's only USA what about China,Africa,London,India, etc etc what about those countries... Some people can fight it and some people can't marijuana is the only thing that can help them who can't help themselves.
Charles Stimson says Marijuana is an addictive, gateway drug. what he doesn't know, what else has more negative health consequences and is much more addicting than Marijuana? Cigarettes, but we regulate and tax to hell out of it despite knowing there is no benefits in tobacco. Charles Stimson doesn't know what he's talking cause he have no use for Marijuana..
Canada should legalize Marijuana. There are many health benefits with in Marijuana. There was no one that was reported death of using Marijuana and it's better for your health than Cigarettes and Alcohol, which are both legal. There are proven health benefits like if used in conjunction with cancer treatments, increase the success rate and shorten treatment time. There is no true reason why we shouldn't legalize marijuana for responsible adults. Prohibition hurts everybody while regulation protects. The idea that it is a gateway drug is a plain lie and the other major health hazards associated with pot such as cancer, physical addiction, and cognitive decline have no scientific evidence to back them up...

Reason why i would like Canada should legalize Marijuana..
I don't smoke Marijuana, and never have , but I don't sit in judgement either. Recently, I started looking at what could happen to the Canadians economy if we didn't just decriminalize Marijuana, or condone Medicinal uses for it, but actually allowed the free market to grow, package and sell it. What i've found out is pretty startling. To being with, most estimates say the cannabis business in British Columbia alone is worth US$24 Billion dollars a year, street value. How much is that? That's more than the forestry exports to the US for BC in any given year, and is about two and a half times the agricultural exports for the entire country..

      Delete
    3. So, let’s start with that number: US$24 Billion a year in profits. That’s roughly CDN$34 Billion. I’m being conservative here, and forgetting the fact that if you were to legalize marijuana, Canadians would be growing it in every fallow field, window box, and basement in the country.
We live in a society where nature is illegal. But for some reason, we allow safe injection sites, which promote illegal drug use. We have a booming industry centred around the consumption of alcohol, which is responsible for hundreds of deaths and acts of violence annually. And we have tobacco, one of the largest industries world-wide, responsible for thousands of deaths each year,Yet Mother Nature’s plant, cannabis, is deemed dangerous and immoral. In many parts of Vancouver, one can walk down the street smoking a joint and no one, not even the police, will look twice. This is how it should be. However, in other parts of North America, you can face harsher penalties and more jail time for a tiny nugget of weed than for first degree murder.
Cannabis is one of the most versatile plants on the planet. Hemp can be used for cloth, clothing, rope, hair products, building construction materials, even fuel. In fact, cannabis can be used to manufacture over 25,000 products. And at the same time, one single plant takes in four times more carbon dioxide than a tree, in turn producing four times the amount of oxygen.
The Reason why I chose this topic is because, I saw a mother on CBC News from Downtown Eastside, Ancouver was arrested for buying Marijuana which is illegal but she wasn't buying it for her she was buying it for her 5 year old daughter who have Crohn's Disease. The mother of the child couldn't afford to pay hospital bills but she try to easy her daughter pain.. So Canada you should legalized Marijuana Canadians would like that to happen so they won't break laws and the mother on CBC News would love it she won't have to pay jail bills often..

  17. Topic: Fight Against Bill C-51
I Am trying to bring awareness about Bill C-51 and make sure the audience to parents and family and spread the word, eventually helping numerous people to fight against Bill C-51
I mainly chose this topic because i despise the fact that some random guy working at the CSIS has my personal data in their hand. I want the audience to understand this so this does not continue.

“ Any society that would give up liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither, and lose both”-Benjamin Franklin. January 30, 2015- House Of Commons. In order to enact the Canadian Information Sharing Act and to alter the Canadian Criminal Code in order to secure this nation, a very controversial act was to be introduced and discussed at the Royal Parliament of Canada. Bill C-51. An act that would abruptly invade your privacy in order to bring you security. I believe that Canada had already been invulnerable enough even before this new act and that Canada is only causing more mayhem. A man named Jahanzelo Malik had devised on setting bombs in Toronto. The government had caught this man very expeditiously, and that too without this new act. Canada is only becoming paranoid because of what is happening in the United States. We are following their paths which will only make this country less peaceful. Bill C-51 states that Natives and Afghans will mainly be targeted, this seems very stereotypical, and Canada is doing this based on events that have happened in the past. In fact this Act would would abruptly cause more abhorrence which would end up causing more debates, arguments, leading up to more terrorism. Good Morning, my name is Jamin and I’m here to retain our privacy and fight against Bill C-51.

she turns 4 tomorrow, what she gets isn't something she can just hand to anyone else and let them borrow. can anyone guess what it is, does anyone know? barbies, dresses, oh what about a new doll house? the answer to them all is no. the little girl in pig tails received something electronic, something rechargeable, something bigger than her head. it was an iPad, and the next day was the day, she got misled. the little boy had just turned 5. angry birds, temple run, and subway surfers seems to be the focus point of his and his sisters lives. is there too much tech around kids nowadays? is this classified as normal, is this okay?

what im trying to convince the audience of would be that there is way too much technology around kids at a young age.

the reason to as why I picked this topic is because I know quite a few kids who haven't even turned 9 yet and already have an ipad/tablet. to me, that's something i never thought would happen. my brother turned 5 a year back, and he got an iPad! i found it unbelievable because 1, he just turned five, 2, he's still a baby whether he likes it or not, and 3, i waited 4ish years to get an ipod and he asked for a couple of months and boom, iPad mini in his hands!

  19. -My topic is Sikh Injustice.

-“Operation Blue Star” “Turbans Banned on Quebec soccer fields” Sikhs have been turned down many times in Canada, most of these cases happening in Quebec. From cases of kirpans (a sacred dagger) to cases of the turban. Over the years I have heard of stories about Sikhs being banned from soccer fields or the RCMP because of their headwear. Even though this was about 2-3 years ago and the ban has been lifted, I find this very disappointing because Canada is a country where everyone is accepted and we all have equal rights.

-What i am trying to tell the audience is that Sikhs have faced many unfortunate events so what happened to us should be noticed by people so that we don't have to face anymore inequity.

    - The reason why I chose this topic is because I am a very religious person and seeing anything that happens to the people of my religion makes me feel that something has happened to me too. Just the amount of cruelty Sikhs have faced made me want to write talk about this and tell others about it.
