Rebound 1 - The Fight

Rebound 1 - The Fight

Sean and the boy in the wheel chair have met, perhaps not in the best of circumstances! Building upon our predicting lessons what do you think is going to happen next?

Be specific and add detail in your thoughts.  Keeping it simple, simply demonstrates your simple thinking!

For those of you that know the story take the post as a time to work on interacting and questioning your peers.

  1. I predict the person who's about to stop the fight (also the person that said ("HEY! WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?") is going to be the schools coach. So when he finds out Sean and the wheelchair guy might try out for basketball team, he's going to ban them as punishment for fighting.

    1. Give me a idea of what's going to happen after that?

      Delete
    2. That could happen but I don't think the coach would BAN them. Maybe give them like a month of detention or an in-school suspension.
Also, doesn't any1 wonder what will happen to Scott and his smokes?

    3. John what do you think is going to happen with Scott and his smoking?

      Delete
    4. why do you think that the wheel chair guy is going to try out for the basketball team .... dont you think since he is in a wheel chair he cant try out?

Some people are permently in a wheel chair some or temporarily in a wheel chair

      Delete
    5. He'll get detention and/or get suspended.
      Either way he'll get punished.

      Delete
    6. i dont think he would punish sean though because sean didnt really do anything

      Delete
    7. I think Sean would apologize to the wheelchair person for fighting with him in the first place. Slowly, they become friends and help each other out with their basketball skills. The coach would see how well they're doing together and allow them to be on the team. And both exept the offer.

    8. eden i dont think scott with get punished cause it wasnt school when he was smoking and he wasnt in school but he might get punished by his parents :$

      Delete
    9. well the wheel chair guy is on a wheel chair don't you think the teacher will be bias like us and be sympathetic and not give him detention

      Delete
    10. Well, sean did anger the kid in the wheel chair by not moving, when he asked. So by that, the kid in the wheel chair became upset, and tryed too force him too move, but they ended up fighting.

      Delete
    11. @Abeeshan: Some people in wheelchairs still love playing sports and do. @Pablo Sean should've gotten out of the wheelchair guys way when he asked. But he didn't. He was pushing the limit.

      Delete
    12. Well even though school didn't technically start yet, he was still at the front of the school smoking. So even though the school didn't start yet he was still on the school property.

      Delete
    13. Abeeshan there are many people who play basketball in wheelchairs

      Delete
    14. I do agree with am17, don't you think who ever yelle, would have been bias towards the kid in the wheel chair?

      Delete
    15. i know that but i think he wouldnt get in that much trouble because it wasnt school time and there not his parents

      Delete
    16. Sarah, but didn't the wheelchair guy start the fight first? Sean and Scott were on the ramp when the wheelchair guy ran his wheelchair into Sean, insted of nicely asking.
Then instead of saying sorry, the wheelchair guy just aggrivates Sean more. Resulting in the fight

      Delete
    17. He would still get in truoble because he's smoking on someone else's property. What does this have too do with parents? o.o

      Delete
    18. Talha, even though the kid in the wheel chair did swing at sean first, he did ask sean too move the first time, and sean didn't by that it angered the kid in the wheel chair.

      Delete
    19. I think that was a great prediction! The basketball coach getting involved!

      Delete
    20. Eden, your forgetting that instead of asking first, the kid rammed into Sean provoking and angering him. But when he did ask, he didn't ask nice.

      Delete
    21. Do you think Sean and the boy in the wheelchair will try out for the SAME team or different team? by that i mean you know how their is sitting basketball and a standing one also.

      Delete
    22. @Sarah: how will they become friends? You said they apologized to each other but after that steps have to been token for two people to become friends and right now they just "pushes" each others buttons how will that lead to friendship?

      Delete
    23. Well the kid rammed him first because, he was standing in the way of the ramp, but that's right.

      Delete
    24. Couldn't he just say "Excuse me" ?

      Delete
    25. Well, he could have said "Excuse me" but he didn't, and you have too keep in mind that Sean and Scott were on the ramp, and they were not supposed too be there because they are not handicap, that ramp was not supposed too be use too hang out there it was so that the kid in the wheel chair could get inside the school, and the kid in the wheel chair did say "Either get wheel's or move it" and by that Sean didn't move. If you were the kid in the wheel chair and you saw these kids hanging around the ramp that you use too get inside, how would you feel? And would you have reacted differently then the kid in the wheel chair, or the same? how would you have reacted?

      Delete
    26. Great questions and back and forth dialogue. Eden you have well articulated answers.

      Delete
    27. Well, I will tell you that if I was the kid in the wheel chair, I would be pretty upset too see kid's sitting and smoking on the ramp that I need too use to get inside the school. I'm not saying that it was right for the kid in the wheel chair too swing at Sean but the kid did say "If you don't move, I will make you move". Sean should have got a hint on what he was talking about.

      Delete
    28. @Neha : By Sean apologizing the guy in the wheelchair, he might not be so mad at him anymore. When Sean would find out he plays basketball too, they could start playing together and learning about each other. So they become friends. And i think they would try out for the same team. There usually only is 1 team per sport. @Fried Chicken *cough Eden* : I agree, Sean and Scott shouldn't have been there, it was for people on wheel chairs. Sean should have respected what he was asking for. But it still wasn't right for the guy in the wheelchair to just bump into him.

      Delete
    29. He was being assertive because it works just like having rules at school, people follow them because there is always a consequence of not agreeing to that particular statement. So not moving in Sean's case meant for him to get beat down and look like nothing to the inferior kid in the wheelchair. Do you think the wheelchair kid did that to Sean just to get attention from everybody else because he feels like the big downer in the crowd, or do you think he's a "rebel"?

      Delete
  2. I think that a teacher is going to intervene in Sean and wheelchair's fight and then suspend them.
Also, I think that Wheelchair and Sean are going to do detention together and get to know each other then become friends and make the basketball team together.

    1. Do you think that the "specific" teacher will give any punishment of any sort to both of them?

      Delete
    2. good thinking but what would you think the parents are going to be like will they be mad or "disappointed" on sean getting suspended

      Delete
    3. What makes them get to know each other? Wouldn't they stay quiet in detention. So my question is, what happens to get them talking to each other?

      Delete
    4. i think that they will most likley be mad because he faught a handicap kid

      Delete
    5. Will Sean and the boy in the wheel chair get the same punishment.

      Delete
    6. most probaly not because because the kid in the wheel chair could pretend like he was innocent

      Delete
    7. Radd Circles who are you? I need to know who you are to evaluate your responses.

      Delete
    8. Can sympathy play a role in this story and turn things around or do you think that they both will keep a fair punishment equal to the both of them? Answer carefully!

      Delete
  3. I predict that one of the many kids watching the fight told the princapal about the fight and both got detention. In the process of the explanation, the princapal catches scott putting out his ciggerete and suspends him, leaving the main charictor without a friend.

when the main charictor trys out for the basketball team he is greatly dissapointed to find that the team was already formed. the boy in the wheel chair made the team, making the main charictor lash out.

  4. i think shawn is going to give the guy punches to his face because the guy in the wheel chair was punching shwan non stop. i think this because if it was me i wouldnt take punches and not do anything back. after when shawn punches him i think the princible is going to get mad and susspended shawn and the wheel chair kid. :$

    1. But the guy just came to stop the fight you know the guy who came and yelled "HEY WHATS GOING ON HERE" so i dont think sean has time to knock the kids lights out

    2. maybe he did when someone punches you the punch gos really fast since its going in one direction unless the guy is reall slow but in this case i think sean did have time

      Delete
    3. got a point nauman what if the fight just kept going even after the person said "HEY WHATS GOING ON HERE"

      Delete
    4. it couldnt have because after the guy yelled that out, sean said he heard a shout and immediatley stopped

      Delete
    5. Perhaps the Sean isn't strong enough to fight the wheel chair boy...who needs the help now?

      Delete
    6. maybe seans friend who smokes might help sean since there friends

      Delete
    7. @Pablo, Scott is the one that smokes.

      Delete
  5. My 1st prediction is that the principal comes out , and puts them both in detention on the first day. Later that day Sean went to find the kid in the wheelchair to apologizes for his agressiveness, and to his surprise finds the kid playing basketball, in a WHEELCHAIR! They later on become friends sharing the love of basketball. Then, as an act of kindness, Sean gives the kid his pair of new sneakers.

    1. i would stay calm in a way but i also think that sean did not do any thing wrong exept for the way he responded to the boy in the wheel chair and the boy responded to sean in a even worse manner,by punching and hurting sean.

      Delete
    2. Do you think that Sean will make his way out of getting in trouble? Because in your prediction you said that you think it's a staff member so most likely is for both to get in trouble .

      Delete
  8. i predict the guy who said "whats going on here"is going to be somebody from the school staff and instead of scott getting in trouble(like he always does),this time sean or/and the boy in the wheel chair are going to be in trouble.because of that sean wont be able to try out for the basketball team.

    1. as for scott do you think he got a point that there was still 22 minutes till officially school starts which gives him reason to smoke on school property

    3. What do you think will happen if Sean doesn't make the basketball team? will he be kicked out of Scott group? or will nothing really effect the "staffs" decisions?

      Delete
    4. Punishment from trying out. This is very believable!

      Delete
  9. firstly, i think that the the person who broke up the fight, was the school's principal and norticed that sean was fighting the guy on the wheelchair. also, i predict that before the principal can do anything, i think that the kid in the wheel chair is going start pretending like like he was getting beat up and Sean gets all the blame.

      Delete
  10. I think that when the person yells "WHAT IS HAPPENING!?" he tries to break them up. The person is a teacher or another member of staff at the school. So Sean and the wheelchair guy start telling the person about what happenend. As punish ment they get detention and are forced to see the guidance counsler together. There they start talking with each other as required and learned that they both love basketball. So together they help each other in ball skills and try to make the team together.

    3. Do you think the boy in the wheel chair will make his way out of getting in trouble? Because your prediction said that it might be a teacher so do you think the boy in the wheel chair just because he is in the wheel chair will get out of getting in deep trouble do you think people in wheel chairs get more attention

      Delete
    4. Of course they get more attention. Like Mr. Cheney said seeing the guy in a wheelchair fighting a "perfectly normal" guy makes us think biased. But i think that someone who saw what happened will explain to the teacher and they get the same punishment.

      Delete
    5. Same punishment? really? Is that fair?

      Delete
    6. mr cheney i do not think its fair because the guy in the wheel chair started punching sean first i think the wheel chair guy should get in more trouble thats just my opinion

      Delete
    7. Its a great opinion. Do you think this could happen? The kid in the wheel chair getting the punishment he deserves?

      Delete
  11. My 2nd prediction is that the kid in the wheel chair hurts Sean so bad that he ended in a wheelchair, with Scott by his side every minute.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. thats a good perdiction idk if he will end up in a wheel chair cause in the book it seemed like the wheel chair kid only punched him in his face

      Delete
    2. Aliyah after listening to the first chapter do you think that sean really likes hanging out with Scott?

      Delete
    3. Well, maybe after seing that Sean was hurt partly because of him, Scott could change!

      Delete
    4. yeah because he doesnt want to get stuck with drugs but maybe he would because he is in a wheel chair and he cant make the basket ball team so he just probably gives in and takes the ciggarette. So it works both ways

      Delete
    5. i agree with pablo, people who end up in wheelchairs may have a mental disorder, or a problem with thier legs. So i don't think Sean got hurt enough to end up in a wheelchair .

      Delete
    6. mee too and abeeshan i dont think sean likes to hang out with scott anymore since he started smoking

  13. My prediction so for is that the kinds how were lisening to the word fight called the principle when shawn and the wheel chair kid started to to fight so they would stop fighting.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I predict that sean and the kid in the wheel chair get caught fighting by the priciple and are sentenced to detention for some time(more than a day)and while they are there, they talk to each other with a tone that shows each other that they are tougher than each other but they get past that by asking each other questions about there personality.Soon they find out that both of them like basketball(the kid in the wheelchair likes basketball because hes got a basketball in his lap on the cover of the book). So then they make a temporary truce because both of them want to make the basketball team.Because of the truce they help each other with their baller moves.Thats what i predict and also for the ending since Sean is going to graduate he switched shoes with the kid in the wheel chair to remember each other. And maybe thats the reason the kid in the wheel chair has Jordans on and Sean has other shoes. And that is what i predict.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I was thinking the same thing as you but i didn't put in the part about the Jordan's.

      Delete
    2. What a clever idea to create a narrative for the shoes!

      Delete
  15. I think that while Sean and the new kid were fighting, a teacher had noticed. So the teacher caught them & will obviously give them some sort of punishment. Or Sean gets much more in trouble because while Sean was reaching out to get back at the kid, that’s when the teacher or whoever had noticed. The new kid is handicap, so that makes Sean look bad.
So they do start out horribly. But I think it will get better for the both of them and they will get to know each other, probably from learning from their own mistakes. That’s all that reaches my mind when it comes to predicting their future.

    1. During the book Scott is taking a smoke not long after the new kid and Sean have a fight . If you were sean would you take the cigarette if yes why if not why not also put yourself into Sean's place into Sean's shoes do u think he did the right thing not hitting back or do you think he should have hit back

      Delete
    2. do you think the wheel chair kid will also get in trouble because just like our bias dont you think the person giving the punishment is going to feel bad and sympathetic?

      Delete
    3. @Neha Well obviously I wouldn't be that dumb to accept the offering because I wouldn't want to get in trouble and ruin my health. Plus who smokes in front of the school right?
Sean went through a horrible situation and it looks like hes been a bit destroyed emotionally. It's understandable that he didn't say yes.
Sean did the right thing by not hitting back but he could have tried a bit harder on self-defense I would have tried my hardest but it seemed like he was in a tight situation.

      Delete
    4. @Abeeshan No but it really depends on the person that's punishing them. People should know that just because the kid is handicap this should not give him the advantage of getting away with things.
I think both of them should be punished because that way its fair.

      Delete
    5. I would've took the cig. because the whole fight of Sean and the wheel chair guy wouldn't have happened. (i wouldn't take it in real life) only because i knew what was going to happen after Sean didn't take the cig.

      Delete
    6. @ aynur thats what you think but when predicting on the cover of rebound we all thought handicap guy needs help and all so wont you think thats what eric walters is trying to highlight? everyone is the same

      Delete
    7. Yes they should KNOW the difference but is that truly what people will do? Almost everybody knows what to do and how to do things but only occasionaly do the right things.

      Delete
    8. @Danyal, it does not matter if you took the cigarette or not. The cigarette didn't result too both of them fighting. Sean was not suppose too be at the ramp in the first place too begin with. Sean was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

    5. they were probally relaxingf and watching the fight with some popocorn

      Delete
    6. Derrick somewhat has a point. Scott should have been there to pull Sean out of the fight and not just watch and let it happen. That doesn't seem right. Because Scott is his friend and because the kid is handicap.
He shouldn't be encouraging the fight. Even though he said the kid was handicap so Scott should not do anything. I guess Scott tried. But when things got physically he didn't really do much.

      Delete
    7. Derrick they were all surprised too see that Sean was gonna fight a kid in a wheel chair, but the kid in the wheel chair ended up swinging at Sean and beating him up.

Stopping a fight doesnt automatically come in to your mind.

  18. my predition for this story next would be that the guy in the wheel chair and sean would become friends.Refuring back to the cover page the guy in the wheel chair and sean they look like they are friends. It seems like sean gave his jordans to the guy in the wheel chair even though sean's dad spent alot of money on the shoes.

    1. Agreed the cover does look like buddies. However Sean and the boy in the wheel chair are not friends right now.

  19. i predict that after sean and the guy ina wheelchair fall the schools principle arrives with a stern look on his red face.the principle takes sean by the hand and yells both get in trouble but sean gets it the most because the wheelchaired boy said that sean is making fun of him because he can't walk.Later sean has to get a call home and he has to clean walls. the guilty wheelchaired feels sorry for him and later apoligizes to him. on the other hand the wheelchaired boy tells him how good he is in basketball then he starts to give him lessons. thats what i think this because on the cover it had a boy on a wheel chair with a basketball.

    1. sorry i made a mistake the proper line is "sean and the guy in a wheelchair fall on the ground. Later the schools principle arrives

    2. Good prediction and so what you're saying is that the wheel chaired boy is going to teach sean basketball? Why so.. why cant it be the other way?

You can always have a passion for sports even though you cant play it, right? Look I have a cricket bat because I admire cricket but I admit I suck. So just cause you have Jordans doesnt mean you pllay basketball.

      Delete
    3. Great connection to the vocabulary lesson using the word STERN.

      Delete
  20. What I think will happen next:

Scott will stop this fight because he didn't want Sean fighting with a guy in a wheelchair. So, Sean suggested that "how about we finish this fight with a 1 on 1 basketball match" since the guy in the wheelchair was wearing jordans, he assumed that the guy in the wheelchair had a passion for basketball. The guy in the wheelchair didnt want to step down, so he accepted the challenge. The next day they both played 1 on 1 basketball at the school auditorium. There were huge crowds cheering for them "C'mon dude you can do it!" and who ever won would claim glory. But, eventually Sean and the guy in the wheelchair will face consiquences for physically hurting each other.

    1. but they cant do that yet because they just got caught and they are probably stuck in detention or they got suspended

  21. This story leads off to a prediction that I make of Sean and the boy in the wheel chair. They started off in a bad way, meeting each other in a fight. Now that this happaned, I think they might as well get caught fighting by any older school staff. This seems predictable as it had said in the text that people were staring at them fighitng. There would probably be a big crowd distracting attention to the rest of the people. Once an older staff would get there, they would have a long talk.Sean would be most likely to get in big trouble and get a higher punishment. This probably would be do to people's thoughts as bias. They would feel more sorry for the boy in the wheel chair. They would drop all the blame on Sean. As a punishment, he could be suspended from school or just be suspended from certain things. By that I would mean field trips and clubs. This also means no joining the basket ball team. Sean would be really upset and feel foolish. He had been worried that Scott would make him get it trouble. Instead he ends up in trouble himself. Maybe later on, the boy in the wheel chair would feel bad for not taking any part of the responsibility and help Sean join the basket ball team.

    2. So if you were Sean what would you have done in the first place too control your anger, and prevent the fight from happening?

      Delete
    3. I would push him away as fast as I can because since hes trying to hit me, I wouldn't want fight back I would feel sorry if I hurt him.

      Delete
    4. Why would you feel sorry if you hit him?

      Delete
    5. @Danyal, if you were Sean and you were fighting with the kid in the wheel chair, why would you not hit him back? I mean, the kid in the wheel chair did swing at you first. So why would you not hit him back?.

    6. How much fighting did Sean do?

      Delete
    7. @ Friend chicken. I wouldn't hit him back because i would feel sorry that hes on a wheelchair already.

@ Cheney. Sean didnt fight at all.

  23. the prediction for what is going to happen next in the story is that i think that Sean will say sorry to the person in wheel chair because he was fighting with him and so they will become friends and the guy who said "whtat's going on?" he might be a student or staff member from the school and then Sean might get in trouble for fighting. and by looking at the book cover i think that Seam will teach the boy in wheel chair how to play basketball.

    1. Great prediction! But from reading what you said why would you think Sean would regret fighting him. He looks like a tough guy and hearing his anger he doesn't look like a person that apologizes.
Do you agree with the quote "forgive and forget"?

    2. How often do you fight with people and then become friends?

      Delete
  24. my second prediction is that the person yelling could be a whole new charactor. maybe a friend of the wheel chair kids friend or mom, in that case this could lead to a whole other story

    2. not if its his mother, many mothers are very hostile when it comes to bullies and fights. its instinct.

  25. My prediction is the teacher who said hey whats going on here will take both the boys to the principales office and theyll get detention. Sean might then go to the boys house and tell him that hes sorry and when he sees him playing basketball and Sean might tell him that he loves basketball to and they both might become friends.

  26. My prediction is that the teacher will find them and make them clean the whole school as a punishment and as they start to clean the school they will start to get to know one a other and probably be friends and as they know one a other from cleaning the school they might join a basketball team together or probably they will both coach a basketball team together

  27. Why is scott smoking in side the school?

    1. Ashley, Scott is not actually smoking inside the school but hes smoking outside in the front of the school, but their school hadn't technically started yet so he thinks he can just get away with it.

What do you think will happen with Scoot and his smoking? Will he get caught?

      Delete
    2. I think wat will happen is that scott wont listen to no one until he gets caught and probably he will by a teacher or parent What do u think will happen with his smoking and do u think he will get caught too

  29. .......i mean like in other text it is really hard to understand what its about

  30. Scott was smoking outside the school because he is trying to act cool by pretending as if he couldn't care. He is proving to others that he is fearless of getting in trouble, and if he does who cares right? At least he got to prove something.
Scott shouldn't have end up this way by such a young age. There must be something wrong with his parents or at home cause it sure seems like he hasn't been taught well.

    2. Well, Ashley I can't really tell you who I think it is, Mr.Cheney read the book to us last year.

      Delete
    3. I think it is Ms. Merraro yelling for them to stop!

      Delete
  32. I predict that the person who said "whats going on here!" Was the principal so he stopped the fight and asked them are you okay also why they were fighting. After that, Sean and the wheelchair guy told both side of their stories and the principal would believe the wheelchair guy, because he felt sorry for him being in a wheelchair (bias). Also I think Scott should've stopped the fight. Next, I think Sean and the wheelchair guy have detention and get to know each other. They become friends and join the basketball team together.

  37. All these posts look all to similar to me because they have the same starting and the same outcome every time. Get creative like Aliyah because she took that context and turned it into a great narrative. Do you think that the context may be twisted at certain edges of the story not certainly what you want for a story but what the moral can turn out to be in the end.
